  1. Not sure about that, he was determined to sell him, naming the £25m asking price in every interview, effectively saying 'come and buy him'. He was burned by previous players running down their contracts and his overwhelming priority was not to let £25m worth of asset turn to zero.
  2. I think he'd like success but he's become disillusioned by the financial side of football, agent demands, the sheer costs of wages, the players that are happy to sign a lucrative contract and then equally happy to run that contract down (Diedhiou eg), the constant one way call on his pocket with - in his eyes - no sense of gratitude or loyalty in exchange for the sums he's shelling out. He alluded to this in an interview when asked what he'd learnt in football and he said " never fall in love with your players, in the end they think only of themselves despite the wages and support given to them".
  3. Of course I'd like to see us in the PL - but competing. I was lucky, and old enough!, to see us win promotion in 1976 and by and large we were competitive. We didn't need to spend much back then and only bought Hunter, Cormack, and Garland during the first season for comparatively very modest fees. Later we signed Joe Royle etc but he was coming to the end of his career. Today I'm not sure we have the recruitment structure, systems, and experienced DoF - not to mention the owners commitment - to invest wisely and kick on like Brighton Brentford and to some extent Wolves who relied heavily on Jorge Mendes to recruit. It pains me to say it but I think other than the desire to trouser the cash I don't think we have made any credible plans to push on should we - as SL said - get lucky.
  4. A few getting excited by his return to the West Country!
  5. Guy across the road from me is a self proclaimed 'big Man City fan', he's never been to a live game, he doesn't even watch them on Sky/BT.. .. but he 'watches all their goals on his phone'. Really.
  6. That's a good thing though isn't it ? ?
  7. Agreed, listening to the interview it was hard to imagine his tongue could possibly get any further up SL's ass.
  8. They're excited by any erection, they're not getting any other ones now their sisters have gone back to school.
  9. Brian Tinnion impressive as always, knows football, knows the club, loves the club, .....if -IF- Nige decides not to accept a new contract, or SL decides not to offer him one, I really hope that BT is at least made DoF and is instrumental in finding our next manager and the Lansdowns stay out of the process - I really don't want to read that Jon Lansdown is selecting and interviewing the potential candidates.
  10. No sausage with the chips?
  11. The watertight one ? Sprung a leak and went down faster than Kirsty Gallagher on a first date .
  12. Surprised no has mentioned the Danny Wilson team ( the Lee Peacock era)....as I recall the most popular line up was: Carling - Heineken Stella Artois Carlsberg - Guinness Grolsch Amstel Bass - and up front Benson and Hedges
  13. Fair enough - you'll have to name the team 1 to 11 though....and no googling!!!!
  14. Yes that promotion side rolls off the tongue after all these years. AD kept the same team, and didn't sign anyone in the summer, to start the first division opening game and was rewarded with a win. The additions came later- Hunter Cormack etc Cashley - Sweeney Collier Merrick Drysdale - Tainton Mann Gow - Ritchie Cheesley Whitehead. Sub: Fear. My favourite team.
  15. Nige did say in a recent interview with one of the national papers ( the one where he was interviewed at his local pub in Nailsea) that he fully intended to honour his contract. I think he meant it, and he will see how things play out in the summer. Personally I don't think he will sign again if budgets, player sales continue as per the current situation.
  16. Impressive, don't post that on AssChat or they'll be wanting that system at the fruit bowl, now they're all minted up with the Kuwaiti restaurant owner.
  17. A first for OTIB........15 minutes and no one's done the obligatory Nathan Jones gag.
  18. Click anywhere but the white play button., It will work then - might have to click a few times. I'm in Frankfurt as well and connected fine.
