  1. I enjoyed the Man U win, as we all did, but on the scales that night versus £55 Million spent, 74 players signed, and leaving the club in such a state that it's taking years to recover.......the bad grossly outweighs the good
  2. Scottish League Cup ? That like putting on your CV that you won the egg and spoon race at primary school!
  3. Frustrating rather than miserable! 4 wasted years where he didn't move the club forward, a mistake by SL to bring him in without any credentials whatsoever to manage a Championship club, and a mistake to keep him in post when he clearly wasn't delivering the objective. A mistake to throw money at him. A mistake to give him an extended contract when he was clearly struggling ( after the "streak"). A mistake that has meant the next manager has had his hands tied.
  4. No, crap player - couldn't defend, couldn't tackle, bottled 50/50 challenges, no assists, no goals,GJ had him on all free kicks and corners and we never scored from them. Handed a playing career by his father, handed a managerial career by Lansdown, he hid behind the continual churn of signings by saying he needed more players/clubs in the bag, then said they need more time to integrate, then 6 months to learn " the passing patterns", then wanted more players, more leaders, . A complete fraud. His subsequent jobs have been failures, Sunderland got rid, and he's been a disaster at Hibs with their fanbase only talking 6 months to unanimously call for his head. 5 clubs, won nothing, done nothing. The one short decent spell at City (Man U game etc) was because injuries forced him to play Reid and Patterson up front and he couldn't tinker or go long. ..as soon as Diedhiou was fit he started chopping and changing and lost that momentum. A total fraud.
  5. Scraping the barrel here, I only looked at the first link but we were tacked on as a 1 liner at the end of an article about the credentials of Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Derby, Reading, Sheffield Wednesday, Fulham, Sheffield United, Wolves, Birmingham, Norwich, Leeds, and Cardiff...all rated above us... that's 12 clubs who were rated by the Guardian as a better bet..so we rated 13th. But if that counts as " being talked about nationally as a promotion candidate" as a 13th favourite for promotion then your point is torpedoed right there as 13th is bottom half. I CBA to look at 442, that's children's comic isn't it?
  6. I was always convinced the signing was more to help out GJ than anything else. There never seemed any desire to give him an opportunity or try and see if he could develop, or any sense he would become a first team player. Got our money back though, but it didn't seem a very professional thing to do !
  7. I don't ever recall us ever being talked about in that way, certainly not for 2-3 years, certainly not while finishing 18th,17th and 11th. A few red tinted folk on here maybe and by the Lansdowns at season ticket sales time but nationally - no way! LJ, fraud as a player, fraud as a manager - the Jocks have sussed him in no time.
  8. In the 4 seasons he completed we finished 18th,17th, 11th, 8th,........I'm not sure that qualifies as "established top half". Given the resources and the 70 odd players signed on his watch I can't view his tenure as anything other than failure
  9. It won't be too long before he's gone
  10. Poundland as shirt sponsor ? When a player signs you at least know it's not just for the money
  11. Unsurprising.....not even a proper manager.
  12. A PE teacher! according to Joey. FWIW I always thought Cowley was a bit of a gobshite - glad he didn't end up here as was rumoured while the 6 week thorough and rigorous process was playing out.
  13. They've come a long way, I've seen us play at Griffin Park over so many years when they really were " just a bus stop in Hounslow!".... Looking at the PL table we've played the following teams in the fairly recent past - certainly in the Lansdown era - in the Championship and L1 who we probably considered were behind us at the time: Brighton Palace Fulham Bournemouth Brentford Forest Leicester (L1) and although big clubs - on the pitch we were as good as Leeds Wolves Villa when we met in the Championship. And here we are looking down the table hoping to get enough points to stay in the division....... again .
  14. "And finally, we go back to Monopoly, for a quick quiz question. Along with Coventry Street what other three squares on a Monopoly board also carry the name of an English football team?" Oxford (Street), Leicester (Square), Liverpool (Street Station)
  15. I still look good at 68 ! CodeRed
  16. Shakespeare was a coach/assistant under Nige. Steve Walsh was Nige's DoF who did the recruitment (the guy who recommended Mahrez, Vardy etc) It's the Lansdown way !
  17. "Obviously this is all a bit unknown / speculation, but the story was we had Gray already agreed at £4-4.5m, and then went to £6m after it fell apart, and he then went to Burnley. Re Gayle, it was something like £6m plus £3m in add-ons. Maguire was around the £2m mark." The story was it was Guy (can't remember his surname) who went back to Hull and Brentford and offered them less than Cotts had agreed - trying to be the tough negotiator and get an improved deal. The clubs weren't impressed and told him to do one and the prices increased as they were being messed around. Cotts was furious when he returned from holiday.
  18. I wouldn't go back for Cotterill - we've moved on and he's no longer what we need, but he gets unfairly slagged off, mostly by Robbored, who continually trots out the line SL fed to the Senior Reds. FWIW SL said Cotterill promised to do one thing at interview and did another in the job....referring to SL's requirement to develop youth and trade sustainably. SL met those aims blooding players like Bryan and buying Kodjia for 2M and he went for 10M. Plus of course promotion. But SL was seduced by Ashton's proposal to trade the club to promotion using his agents and database and make a profit in the process. SC thought Ashton was a fraud and refused to work with his systems . ..and was fired. So who was right?
  19. And - 2 days AFTER he was sacked Mark Ashton was appointed. (SC sacked Thursday evening....MA appointed Saturday morning -- clearly already lined up) Cotts having refused to use Ashton's "recruitment model" preferring his own eyes and contacts. SL chose MA over SC. And so it began.
  20. You all heard what SL said .....but why would he air all the woes and falling's out to the Senior Reds - he's not accountable to you lot is he? You might as well say something's a fact because you heard a Government Minister say it on TV ? ? ?
