Like it. Just goes to show (if we were in any doubt) that Referees are flesh and blood like the rest of us and all they need is to experience is a bit of "uman feelin" coming their way - letters from abroad, cards and presents at Christmas, pictures of us on holiday with our kids, a kindly word from the terraces and then they will follow one another's example with a weekly dose of penalties coming our way.

Can we assume that to right a heinous wrong, the pattern will continue and we will automatically be awarded a penalty every game, including at the FA Cup final, until the end of the season. According to my calculations that makes 17 penalties. Which neatly makes it a penalty a game - 13 in the League and 4 in the FA Cup. Making up for the infamous "500 days of hurt" suffered by our club  when we didn't get any.

Not much to ask?  After all in the past we've had special arrangements made for certain Clubs eg. "Fergie Time" when the officials let injury time go on and on until Manure got a winner?

What is extraordinary is the effect that use of the Internet can have on people in IMHO. Through it's use It seems that Top Robin and now Percy Pig have acquired the power to look into the souls of complete strangers. As a GJ lover why would I want to wind myself up?

However I totally agree with your second sentence. I loved Gary and the profile he gave to BCFC culminating in almost achieving the Promised Land. Unfortunately it led to SLs nepotism in appointing LJ. Look where that got us financially. Totally baffled at how SL treated SC. Horrible.

And then SL finally let go enough to appoint someone who has been there and done it. I thought we would never get a manager of Pearson's quality under SL. Just too much interference in football matters from our owner.

And let's not forget the great Chris Garland who seemed to go into a  period of wearing what must have been studless boots (!?) Started falling over a lot more if my memory is correct when he was touted as a £100,000 pound player (a not inconsiderable sum at the time)

PS. We all loved him but let's also not forget Bas Savage on this subject. Not a great player but someone who would have run through brick walls for City.

Absolutely. Why don't we have the guts to see out a 1 nil lead, or even a 2 nil as other teams do. That has to be down to some collective lack of will. Should professional athletes have to be taught how to have guts? As a group of players they just don't seem to have it.

Setting aside all the injuries to our defensive players - which is a separate issue (I thought we now had the facilities at Failand to better improve the recovery of our players and indeed regimes to reduce the likelihood of injuries) - it seems to me that our defence coaches cannot teach our players how to hang onto a lead, as other teams can.

I seem to remember that we have one of the worst if not the worst record in the League in this respect?

Well said. Pearson has mentioned before that "Bristol is a nice place, BCFC is a nice club" in other words we are too nice (and cosy and complacent and stuck in the mud, "Ah, I told 'ee, things "ull never change 'ere at City) and he is onto this West Country issue.   And apart from all the background paternalism that has held us back for as long as we can remember, on the field, the current problem with a defence that looks regularly as weak as urine is symptomatic of a football Club that hasn't taken things seriously enough.

Really hope Nigel wants to stay and sort us out.

Probably been taking lessons from Sven.

Truly shocked to hear the news about Martin. I had a text from him a fortnight ago when after exchanging news on City he wished me a happy summer and also expressed his good wishes to my son who had been ill. Typical Martin. I had no idea he was ill. Very proud man. I first met him on the train back to Paddington after an evening game at Ashton Gate. When we met up subsequently at other evening matches at the Gate he didn't trust me to keep up with him on the jog back to Temple Meads to catch the last train back to London and would disappear into the distance!

I had a call from Mike in Brighton just now. Martin, Mike, Ellie, another Martin and I travelled to Away matches together regularly for some years. The away experience was truly the best way to appreciate Martin's many qualities as others have already said. I also was touched by the way he would strike up conversations with passengers on any train in which he was travelling while simultaneously revealing his encyclopaedic knowledge of passing historic landmarks as well as his beloved Bristol City. There can't be many who knew more about City than him, as well as being aware of players, past and present, throughout the League. BCFC was his life. We were of similiar age and it was great for me to be able to talk about City players we had seen in a very bygone era including the great John Atyeo. Martin knew the lot of them. Like Atyeo, Martin was fiercely loyal to City and that included loyalty to the Lansdowns. He didn't take kindly to any criticisms. Couldn't stand people moaning about City. Like the truest of fans he was grateful to be able to support the Club he loved.

R.I.P my friend. My deepest condolences to the family.

Always respected Royle and then I heard him interviewed on the Radio and saying that (on principle?) he had never played for a team that wore red. 

Would have made sense for someone who must have hated Man Utd and Liverpool and loving Everton and Man City, except that he did play for us.

I hope Wells has changed because I remember many times when he was either selfish near goal or lacking the basic footballing brains to see that it's better for the team to square the ball to someone in a better goal-scoring position. Chris Martin, who does have a football brain, could be seen kicking the opposition's goal post in total frustration when this happened to him yet again as Wells blasted it wide rather than pass to him.

Got to say though that it was great when he got it right at QPR.

Yes, there is that- but the Everton analogy is misleading given regulations not yet totally frozen, merely amended in their case- in ours we still don't know, there could be a wage cap as soon as Friday- how do you sell a £18m divisonal wage cap to Hughton/Jokanovic. Imagine appointing them a few days ago with big promises and then come Friday 6pm, wage cap voted in! Big problems from the off. Unsure how it's been amended at PL level but those losses give them less room moving forward!

Because last I've heard, any wage cap would be in as soon as next season- existing contracts would be classed as the average wage worked out for these purposes- in effect frozen in time- but new signings, god knows- appoint this week, big promises- may make a thread on it...

What the Major said was that appointing Ancelotti (Hughton would be our Ancelotti) has transformed the players already there at Everton into winners. Do you agree?

We'd be spending on one excellent manager and his team, rather than wasting millions on mediocre managers and duff players, or good players who endlessly warm the bench (eg Benkovic, Palmer) as we have done for many years. Big difference. Do you accept that?

Surely what good capitalists do is cash in on a crisis such as Covid rather than run away from it. If our Club has been as well run under SL as you say then he has a golden opportunity. Other Clubs will not be in a position to do what we are well placed to do?
