I would suggest "status anxiety" as egghead Alain de Botton puts it, be added to your list. He wrote a book about it. He writes about a universal anxiety about what others think about us (big club/tinpot), about whether we are judged a success (Championship, played at top level) or a failure (L1, played in part-time banana league). He says we care what others think about us ("we took 40k to Wembley. No, really! We did!")

We all have "status anxiety," but Rovers have it so bad.

Oh dear, it gets worse for them then :(

Can only pick one? That hardly seems fair, can we have an "all of the above" (and more) option?

    Why of course :)

Complex needs, challenging behaviour, attachment issues, material deprivation,  cultural deprivation, low intelligence, limited education, pathological isms/intolerance of others, pathological lyers, a history of sexual and cross-species abuse, a history of homelessness, borderline personality disorder, persecution complex, hypermanic, ungrounded unfounded fear, have I mentioned anything about delusional yet?

I believe a 4-0 loss has also sent them overnight from possible play-off contenders to the bridge so bi-polar tendencies as well.

A psychiatrists wet dream if ever there was one.

I jest of course - for anyone genuinely affected by any of the above diagnoses and issues.

They really are up themselves aren't they?  Should be challenging at the top end eh? Why?

Massive fan base hmm as someone else has correctly stated they haven't had a five figure average crowd for 40 years.  Massive potential, an owner who won't spend and the worst ground in the league.  Loyal and patient fans, hardly unique no matter what they may think!

Grandiose, narcissistic, ego-centric, entitled, removed from reality, lacking in self-awareness, alternative reality, victim mentality

    ...... take your pick :)

I couldn't resist a look. ;)  It did interest me that the idea that their owner is a billionaire and the top 6 budget stuff is now pretty much accepted as bollocks on there, several posters talking about the lack of money, investment and the chances of a ground without being countered by the usual blinkered ones. It's clearly dawning on them that sitting in the away end does little to make up for any of that.

I didn't need to read anymore. It's taken 18 months but it seems the penny is finally dropping.

Haha, now I see why you were confused by my comment :) No need to doctor anything gas related as there is always enough of a laugh ITRW.

Indeed, in the same way that there's no need to write a parody.

I don't think I could anyway, the critics would say it was too far fetched.  In Rovers' case, the writer would actually have to dumb it down to make it believable.

A bit like the Wealston Raider or whoever he was, when fiction meets reality:

It's as though it's a comedic character from Harry Enfield, The Fast Show or something but it's not.

    Oh Dear 1http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10687/mem-preliminary-talks-started

Perhaps this is just a warning to our "friends" at the UWE that the club is serious about Plan B, in the hope they come back to us with a better deal?

Oh Dear 2http://gaschat.co.uk/thread/10677/fan-ejections A reasonable opening post, but then excuses given for those who were ejected.

I see our friend from Henbury is addling his own little brain again.

On the one hand it was only 'alleged' racist language and on the other "the gentleman in question is from the old school and does not see anything wrong about using the same language that was acceptable in the 1970's".

Our friend from Henbury hopes the club will provide him with some education (effectively admitting that it wasn't alleged at all but did actually take place, thus contradicting himself).

There's also this bizarre defence that the gentleman in question has done a lot of good works for others - predominantly white, Bristolian R*vers fans by the looks of things.  In the mind of our friend from Henbury, philanthropy and racism obviously can not be mutually exclusive.

To maximise the club's revenue & profitability, they've employed someone who was involved, with a club the size of Portsmouth, when they went into administration. Twice!

If they were the interview panel for the BBC then I'd fancy my chances of getting a new job as the weather girl..!

I need a new captain for my boat, it's a bloody shame the Titanic guy's no longer with us!

I don't believe this is true.

However, I did hear that the players are now taking it in turns to take all the kit home after games for their mum's to wash because the official BRFC washing machine is ****** and Currys won't give them a new one on finance because their credit rating is shit.

Well there's that and there's that Darrell hasn't got round to collecting all the subs in yet for the new season.

It'll get to the point whereby he'll have to enforce a no subs/no game time policy.  He doesn't want to do it but he's already sent letters home to parents.  He doesn't know what else he can do.

All this talk of Rovers 'stealing' the Mem was always and remains troubling to me. I never really believed such rhetoric.

Reading the rather level headed remarks below from poster 'Holmes' on the Rovers forum might be worth further analysis:~

When the Memorial Stadium Company purchased  the Mem from Arthur Holmes it was for £2.6m. Bristol Rovers were liable for half and the Rugby club the other half. When the rugby club went bust Rovers acquired their share of the stadium and the debt for £10k. Funded 50% by Barclays with a mortgage secured on the stadium and 50% by preferential shareholders. Read the accounts, it's all in there

I'm no accountant or economist so am by no means an authority on the matter.

If you roll back several pages however, a poster 'Rich' has researched it properly.

The deal apparently is  that the rugby club was truly up shit creek (struggling to adapt to professionalism) so the Bristol RFC chairman Arthur Holmes allowed the pirates to purchase half the ground with the agreement that should one of the clubs actually go under, the other could buy the ground out for a minimal fee.  Arthur Holmes happened to be a gas head as well as a Bristol RFC man and when the Rugby club did go into administration, the pirates cleaned up.  The Rugby club was always going to be the first to fold, it was inevitable.  Holmes was given some title at the sags, as reward.

The Sags did not treat their new lodgers with much respect and resentment grew.  Bristol RFC has since been saved and relocated.  This is costing the Sags, hilariously.

R*vers have since tried to sue a national cooperation for withdrawing from purchasing the War Memorial that was purchased controversially and was readily trying to be flogged off for their own grubby ends.

This used to fancy itself as a family club.

Is it still proporting the same because I frankly don't see it.

Growing up in a school of Sags I saw them to be on some kind of moral pedastool as they weren't the thugs.

I've since seen that to be the complete and utter load of bollox that it is.
