I think it's because he has a central contract, he has to be assigned somewhere unless he chooses not to be involved. If it's anything like last year then he'll only be available for about a week of it anyway, assuming he's still in the Test squad at that point.

That's why I can't see it happening, because it's the only real justification for giving him another shot but doing so would be a tacit admission by SL that Ashton was the cause of a lot of the issues and made a mug of him.

A few years ago I was working away in Birmingham and one Monday night went to take in Redditch v Truro, I think it was a Conference South fixture at the time.
