  1. Standard. About as logical as the thinking that beating a side that hadn’t won a fourth division side in 5 weeks is anything like facing the likes of Bournemouth, Fulham or QPR.
  2. That final was as close as any game can be, we actually started it the better side & missed a couple of half chances. Losing McCombe the night before & then Orr in the first half was rotten luck, though as completely obsessed as people have since become over LJ coming on as result, our real issue in it was the inability of Trundle (who was very poor on the day), Adebola or Byfield (on as a sub) to score. I don’t actually think Brown is any better a manager than GJ was at the time, he just had the breaks on that particular day.
  3. Absolutely. Made a brave decision to join a club that was in a real mess at the time & apparently didn’t get paid for a while as a result. Could have just seen out the last year of his contract as our third choice instead but is finally playing regularly & as this shows, it has really worked out for him.
  4. Going by the fact he said that they were denied a “clear penalty” pretty obviously so.
  5. Wasn’t he poached by someone else as a result of identifying Kodjia? Forest maybe? Think he’s at Marseille now.
  6. Interesting read, but a bit surprised to read how little presence we have outside of the UK, wasn’t expecting us to have loads but this implies basically none.
  7. Think Cotts might be in some trouble, results have been poor & he seems to be losing the goodwill he had as a result of his health issues with some typically spiky press conferences. Sad to see but even though he’s close to the chairman I don’t think he’ll be in charge there for too much longer.
  8. Pretty sure the wealth they got all super excited about at the start “Premiership in 5 years, unlucky the shit” was the total combined family wealth & everyone else from Jordan has now walked away from Rovers. Think there was also an older brother involved initially & he was taking flak from the few for not allowing Wael to spend more? I would say he’s probably worth circa £50m, which seems a lot for the level they now play at, though in comparison Dale Vince of the vegans just up the road is worth double that. Their problems stem from the fact that they have a dilapidated ground & if stories are true, very high wages in comparison to the level they play. When you add in that they have been on a downward trajectory for years, are getting smaller & smaller gates (today’s will be horrendous) & Barton now appears toxic to a fair percentage even of their idiotic fan base, the outlook looks grim. ******* brilliant, isn’t it?
  9. He’s clearly not well & when you add in some sort of Messiah complex, it isn’t a good mix. Over on Gaschat a fair few are unsurprisingly losing their shit over this. The pathetic attempt to try & pretend he knows their history with the Geoff Bradford stuff is cringe, too. I wonder how the Post bloke (Sam Frost?) is able to continue to report this weirdness without comment.
  10. Look, we’re never going to agree, we have been arguing about this on & off since 1993. I’m glad he brought you happiness, I just find the idolatry for someone who contributed so very little just baffling. Personally I think Bob was moved on because Lumsden was struggling (well, completely out of his depth) & any decent manager might have looked at the root cause of his form, not gone for a superficial, short term fix replacement instead. Lumsden’s own possible grief to me should have made him more sympathetic to Bob, not less. But as I said at the outset this all is pretty much pointless, we just see it completely differently & as the intervening 28 years have shown, aren’t ever going to see it the same way. Cristiano Ronaldo (whatever we think of him, he’s a pretty decent footballer) once said “talent without working hard is nothing”, & for one I certainly can’t argue with that.
  11. I think we were top flight for a period around the start of the 20th century, too, certainly around our sole FA Cup final appearance. Obviously no one alive now who saw it.
  12. No. I’d like to imagine us in the top flight, employing a waster who had 5 good games for us then moved to the German second division won’t be the way to ever get us there. Selling a bloke who went on to score over 100 goals for West Brom to fund the purchase only compounds the stupidity and short term nature of it. I saw the likes of Cormack, Whitehead, Mann play for us in the top flight, they had flair but also worked for the team. Russell Osman was in charge of us for what? A year? Total red herring.
  13. We don’t agree on much, but this, every day of the week. Absolute myth, he had about 5 good games for us. Watched him on several occasions stand around for 90 minutes & contribute absolutely nothing, especially in a 4-0 hammering at Twerton. Probably the most overrated player in the club’s history, I’m convinced many of those who rave on about him never saw him play. As for the comparison with Adomah, truly hilarious, Albert never stopped working for the team, Dziekanowski never started.
  14. Pre American owners Burnley, probably. Highly likely our style (competitive, hard working) will be more like theirs than others mentioned. We’ve had Reading, Swansea, Bournemouth all mentioned in the past, too. Think Pearson is really who drives this now, so the model closest to his preference seems the likeliest.
  15. What would you think if we’d won 4/5 at home & picked up 4 away draws?
  16. All those figures are wrong, Massengo hasn’t scored a single goal in first team football. James has scored 10, but in almost 200 games..
  17. Read his backstory, definitely had a tough old start in life & it is incredibly impressive what he has made of himself.
  18. I say this a lot about Brentford, some teams do it differently from others & copying it simply wouldn’t work. They have undoubtedly been far more successful than us, this works for them, I doubt it would for us.
  19. Really impressed & delighted for him today. Odd situation when the manager is ill, but you can see why Nige brought him in. I like him, talks positively & a lot of sense.
  20. Honestly I have just watched this, it looks like parks football compared to the Championship. That row at the end between the fewers over Barton & Garner was effing hilarious. Keep it up, Joey.
  21. In an ideal world he wouldn’t be playing as much, but that’s certainly not his fault. We have signed much worse for higher fees (I acknowledge his wages are probably top end for us, though). Clever. experienced striker who has 4 goals in 11 games & already won us some vital points. Be great if Wells was back after the international break to share the load but he’s doing a sound job overall.
  22. Ha ha! I wouldn’t let it lie…
  23. Done incredibly well at Swansea so far, one start, was taken off at HT when they were 3-0 down, one sub appearance as well. Huge loss.
  24. That’s a very strange thing to say. Maybe they weren’t close? Maybe Martin was sensible enough not to get hammered?Maybe his partner picked him up from this event, if he was even there? Martin played virtually every game in the season before he joined us (38, scoring 12) so this incident certainly didn’t impact upon his season. Not sure this sort of supposition is wise.
