I'm not sure it's naive; I think all evidence points toward that being the case. If it's not then why don't you tell us the information you have? Or is this more about trying to give the impression that you know more than everyone else? (Or more likely it's total nonsense)

The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

I’m sorry… I admit I ain’t the brightest cookie in the jar… but.. what the xxxx does Gould do? What is his actual role? Did he play football?;  had he managed a football team?; had he had dealings with footballers agents?… sorry I may be completely wrong but as I see it… WTF??

He comes from a footballing family (his Dad & brother were pros), he didn't play professionally himself. He is a sporting adminstrator. His role is CEO. He will have had dealings with sports agents through a long career in sports administration, he will continue to speak to agents by virtue of being the CEO of a Championship football club.

Not a surprise, Coventry still have an active element as do Derby. Seen Coventry try it on a couple of times against us at Ricoh in last decade or so, one was at halftime when everyone was outside having a fag, they got chased away pretty sharpish. It’s never going to go away. Utter stupidity in this day and age

Rough & tough city is Cov.

No one is saying on this thread that he is, just that he’s been out injured a while & when he might be back.

I actually don’t think that central defence is our biggest issue, Kalas is excellent, Atkinson has done well overall, Baker is an experienced option & Vyner a useful squad man.

Getting a settled midfield in front of them is the bigger issue for me.

It's like a revolving door in the middle of the park of late.

The people posting on here aren’t representing Bristol Sport in a professional capacity.

I think there has been near universal agreement that the tweet was misjudged. It’s the disproportionate response on here that raises questions of a double standard and a pile on motivated by something other than the tweet’s content.

The original tweet was ill advised at worse,  but hardly a hanging offence, and certainly didn't justify the level of criticism from certain quarters. London Bristolian's excellent response sums up my view perfectly. The criticism that Downsy has had is based on 2 factors: his sexuality and certain peoples' views on his presenting style.

First, the sexuality issue. If you want to find inappropriate sexual content on social media, then look no further than this forum, which at times has been a cess pit of sexism, misogyny and female objectification for years now, much of which has been far worse than anything Downsy has posted.  Secondly, his presenting style.  Yes, it's different to mine. Neither better or worse IMO, just different. He has a wide skill set; does the light hearted stuff well, but also has plenty of gravitas when required. For those wishing that I would come back, I must politely decline. The world of stadium presenting has moved on, and I'm very happy out of the spotlight, much as I loved the job when I did it. As I've said many times before, I think Downsy does a good job and I wish him nothing but the best. I also think it was brave of him to respond to his knuckle headed critics on twitter with such good grace and humour. When I was SLO I was called a c*** and a slimy w***** in an Internet chat. I hot a lot of that stuff. I contacted the 3 people in the chat and suggested we met for a beer, so I could work out what I'd done to upset them so much. 2 declined, but I met the other and we had a good face to face meeting and a couple of beers. I think we understood each other better after that.

But that continued level of social media abuse wears you down. That's one of the reasons I packed it in after 9 years. It hurts. Really hurts. Lay off.

    Nailed it DL!!!

It’s a difficult one. I wonder if any of the rugby players give a monkeys about his tweet? Probably not, I wouldn’t.

However, if it was the women’s team and a male employee had made a comment I’m guessing the feelings would be very different. Maybe it’s an historical thing that women have had to put up with for years and rightly want to stamp out but us men don’t have that worry so it’s ok?

I don’t know the answer, it just feels different.

Nail on the head I think, blokes have held power over women since time immemorial. That asymmetry doesn’t exist in the other direction, by & large. Not to say that tweet was overly professional but possibly why there is no uproar when compared to what would happen if it was a heterosexual male employee commenting similarly on our women‘s team.

So by that assumption every paedophile or murder should be known by the company they work for so then all companies become liable.

If Man City were aware then I agree they have a case to answer but i don't agree that they are guilty just because they employed the guy

Not all companies becomes liable...just those that employ paedophiles/murderers, have them commit offences during the course of their employment, and haven't taken steps to ensure they don't commit said offences.

    Genuine question;

Is it not similar to say if I bought a car that 3 years ago someone else was driving when they ran someone over, then the person who was run over 'recovers' and then sues me because I now own the car?

Car isn't a legal entity, football club is.

I think the overarching issue is that we don’t have a huge amount of pace, quality or creativity.

There’s a fair bit of endeavour and I think, over the course of the season, we’ll do enough to get an upper mid table position, but I think the uncomfortable truth is that most of this season will be about compensating for and minimising our shortcomings.

Was only just thinking that we lack pace, most certainly noticed in wide areas.
