Maybe it takes time to get the team into such good shape that you don’t see many. That said, been pretty disappointed with the time missed by some key players. Williams, Massengo, King, Tanner and Semenyo(after he came back from summer injury) have been big losses at times. You can say we have had less injuries but we also have 6-7 less players than last season. Smaller squad can’t be having 5-6 of our best 18 being injured for so long. As said, hopefully it is something built over a few seasons because as a one off not that impressed.

Tanner was one where I felt surprised how quickly he was thrust back into the first xi, Williams I feel may be one who is more naturally prone to injuries (regardless of medical staff). As for the remainder, hard to say...

PREM rape charge star Benjamin Mendy has been switched to one of Britain’s grimmest jails amid fears for his safety.

The Manchester City defender, 27, spent Christmas at top-security prison Strangeways.

The French international, who is accused of seven counts of rape, was driven to Manchester from Liverpool’s category-B HMP Altcourse on December 23.

His co-defendant, Louis Saha Matturie, 40, is also understood to have been moved there at the same time. Last night sources said the switch, the day after a seventh rape charge was brought against Mendy, came as fears grew over his safety inside.

One said: “Both Mendy and Matturie have been moved because their case is so high profile. That can lead to safety and prisoner management issues and it was felt Category A conditions might be better equipped to deal with any potential issues.

“The Prison Service has a responsibility to manage prisoners in the safest way possible.” A source familiar with Strangeways, also called HMP Manchester, said Mendy may still be in for a rough time.

An inspection last September found many of its 624 lags were locked up for 22 hours a day. It has previously housed April Jones’ murderer Mark Bridger and one-eyed cop killer Dale Cregan.

The source said: “He won’t know what’s hit him coming from Altcourse, which is a privately run prison. It’s one of the toughest jails in the country. His other problem will be the amount of Man United fans in there.

"They will be screaming his name for weeks so he won’t be getting much sleep, especially as he’s charged with sex offences. There are a lot of Blues’ fans there as well, but even the most avid will struggle to protect an alleged sex offender.”

Mendy, of Prestbury, Cheshire, is accused of seven counts of rape involving four women. He is also facing a charge of sexual touching against a fifth.

Matturie, of Eccles, Gtr Manchester, faces six counts of rape and one sexual assault. They next appear in court on Friday.

'Lags' is a term that must universally be used in tabloid papers alone, surely, has anyone every actually uttered that word in day to day life...

I could understand Del not understanding the difference in standard between Scottish and Championship football when he arrived. What baffled me that was his second season when we still had the no hope players and the football actually got worse. The players he brought in were so bad I’ve managed to semi forget them. I can’t remember their names, but just have a vague recollection of blobs awfulness

McGivern & Ricky Foster to name but two!!!

I know this is a Towler thread, but its a tad unfair he is getting all the negative comments about not being ready, but is the same criticism being chucked at Benarous , because I absolutely dont see anything there to suggest he is even close to being ready.

I think, the further back in the team you are, the more likely you are to be exposed in that any mistakes will more likely lead to a goal. Perhaps why people will talk more about Towler, Max, etc...

I’ll say again what the majority were saying in the summer:

“I’d be happy to stay up this year”

I’ve said it over and over - it’s a massively transitional, re-building season.

We wanted mid-table, we wanted signs of improvement, we wanted player development and we wanted less injuries = for me, we’re seeing all of these things.

I do try and see other people’s view points, but I honestly find it hard to grasp those who want Pearson out given all the circumstances we’re in as a club.

For me he’s done very little wrong since he’s come into this club. On and off the pitch.

I don't know whether it's an OTIB thing, or a football fan thing, or a human nature thing but people seem to get so so low after a loss and equally can get quite carried away with a victory. What people don't seem to do as easily is step back and reflect on the overall league position and/or take a GJ approach with blocks of 10 games etc and assess what the trends are. There was a ground swell of support for a lower midtable finish at the start of this season and yet if you were to read the matchday threads whenever we concede, anyone would think we were rooted to the bottom of the league and not...could we imagine it...just as predicted....in lower mid table!!!

  6. Scott shows what an exceptional talent you need to be to look the part at a young age in the Championship. Maybe a loan down at Yeovil or with GJ at Torquay would be of value for Ryley…

I’d only washed the car last week, on the 22nd, so it didn’t need another one. Thus it’s an outlay I wouldn’t have had to make.
Although in fairness, I usually go for Wash 3 at £4.50 but I thought since someone else will have to cough up I went for Wash 5 with the extra wheel wash and wax protection.
If the perp comes forward with a sincere apology, I guess I’ll reduce the cost to the normal £4.50.
But that’s conditional, on the level of sincerity displayed.

Sounds like a cock & bull story to me!

  8. A predictable outcome. Ref not great, but Andy King must have taken leave of his senses for that second yellow, really poor from an experienced pro. Not a bad performance overall, and battled really hard with 10 - can’t fault the lads for effort. 11v11, second half QPR would have been there for the taking (or as much as any team can be ‘for the taking’ when having the fortune to play us).

On another note, Max scares the poop out of me when attempting to come for crosses/corners.
