  1. The very best at his job. Nobody comes even remotely close. He’s made that gig his own. How Sky will replace him I have no idea. I fear that the show may be heading the same way Soccer AM once they lost Lovejoy and Chamberlain.
  2. It’s the Bristol malaise… that ‘ok’ sort of mentality. The excuses that Burnley have parachute payments, are Premiership-bound… no, show them we’re better than them individually and as a team. They’ve just spent a few days celebrating winning the league, go get ‘em. No, not us. We’ll never achieve anything worthwhile with this defeatist, always-have-excuses mentality. Struth, Coventry played all their matches away last season and didn’t even have a pitch to play on at the start of this Season. Nottingham Forest were in near total meltdown at the start of the previous Season. Next Season is OUR time to deliver…I’m with you, fighting for the play-offs is the minimum requirement.
  3. Erm…. anyone else thinking they haven’t a cat in hells chance of sorting out all the necessary consents by the start of next season, let alone build the thing. Also seems bizarre that Wael is spending money improving The Swamp when his new stadium deal is so close to being clinched. They just lap it up, don’t they.
  4. Indeedy, I suspect the Championship will be a lot, lot tougher place next Season. How good was Lloyd Kelly tonight btw? My man of the match. Think he’ll be soon getting a move to one of the top six.
  5. If ever there was a crowd/team who have accepted they’re doomed it was Soton tonight. The remaining two places, based on their scoring (in)capabilities it’s got to be Everton and Leeds, with Forest running them mightily close. Makes the Championship a tough place next season what with Ipswich, Plymouth and likelihood of one other big club coming up from below. We may look back at this Season as having been one of the easier ones to have made a challenge in the wider scheme of things. Pity we weren’t more advanced in our team development to have grasped the opportunity.
  6. Always had a hunch he may come back ‘home’. Sensible chap is our Joe. Made sufficient dosh to live comfortably and, like a growing number of us, realises there’s far more to life than just chasing more and more £££’s.
  7. Ah… she’s beautiful isn’t she. As a young lad, stood with legs either side of the dividing railings that ran up the terrace. Was fine until some **** decided it would be fun to go to the top and push as a hard as they could on the lad at the top of the rails. This had a domino effect all the way down. Became quite a common occurrence. Probably was quite amusing to watch, but do recall a few casualties along the way. Quite possibly the reason I’ve speak several octaves higher than most in my adult life too.
  8. So Sykes gets a 5 match ban for a petulant kick out. Ruben kicks out twice and gets a yellow. Seems fair.
  9. I don’t…and suspect many who live down this way would agree. Utmost respect for the travelling fans who go in big numbers and great distances. Know several supporters and they’re decent folk. Indeed, my old boss - who was the best ever (rip) - was a rabid ‘Muff fan and even got a prominent new build industrial unit clad in Plymouth colours as he proudly told me. While they do tend to bully Exeter a bit ?, they seem ok with Torquay and, generally, seem to have a greater dislike of Sags than us. We don’t though go out of our way to nurture the relationship … the Cherry Tree PH and all that! Come on ‘Muff!
  10. Interesting what is going to be produced. It really is going to take a hammering through the Season at 3/4 games a week, and if we want to play our ‘on the floor/passing game’ it could hinder us.
  11. Brilliant. Some very solid individual displays and good team effort. Upwards and onwards.
  12. Every confidence. We never mess things up on our big ‘must win’ days. ….. at least I think it is ‘never’, but perhaps, it’s ‘always’. Anyhows, you redsssss.
  13. Brum already one up after a couple of minutes! We’re going to have to do the business at The Gate methinks.
  14. I thought that too. Our retailing side is a study of how not to do things. Decided a while back to stop posting on marketing, stocking, product issues and as it’s sooo bad … but I must admit being emailed in mid-April about the exciting arrival of bubble hats and scarfs was a new low.
  15. It’s a strange one. We don’t seem to be getting into goal scoring positions as much as we did. Bell’s wide on the left, Wells on the right, Cornick everywhere and Andi’s gone AWOL. We don’t seem to have a penalty box threat…and we’ve gone back to a set of attacking individuals with no pattern of play, rather than working as a unit. We know goals from elsewhere - midfield, defence are as rare as hen’s teeth. Quite how we adapt what is now a solid team back into a goal scoring machine is the challenge. Need a personel change and re-development of some partnerships ….and we all thought our defence and midfield was the problem!!! Vyner and Pring were exceptional last night btw and Dasilva and Tanner not far behind. Kingy and James just rolled back the years, bravo that pair as well.
  16. Love the guy, but when he’s off the boil he brings very little to the side. Yes energy and we did have a good shape. Absolutely zero threat though. Think he’s had his chance to play himself into the side now. Time for a change to see if we can reinvigorate things up front.
  17. Unlucky. James, King, Vyner, Pring and DaSilva outstanding. Cornick put a shift in too. We just lack quality in the final third, which is odd as we all - including Nige - think that area is the least of our problems.
  18. Sound half. Not got bullied, tidy passing. Final ball poor, suspect partly as there’s not a great deal to aim at. Encouraging though.
  19. We’ve got to do way better than that … attempts to cut out crosses to both goals was pretty Downs League standard. Anyhows, onwards we go. Not relegated or, seemingly, at any risk of FFP penalty were the two key objectives for me this season. Bonus of blooding youngsters. However, we need a new ‘spine’ of four quality players to push on imo - dominating keeper and centre back (two, if Kalas goes), goal scoring midfielder and forward. We need to recycle the Scott money wisely. Still worry that an apparent lack of a comprehensive scouting network will hinder us in identifying first team targets though.
  20. Remember a trip to Watford with a big City following in 80’s or 90’s. Arrived late’ish asked a copper which pub was allocated to City and his response ‘take your pick’. City were everywhere in the town centre. Was the time a few lads and their wife’s/girlfriends went - somewhat bizarrely - into the ‘hard core’ away sections … remember this both at Watford and Cardiff. Good day out.
  21. Norman Hunter - nobody bounced off him. Solid is an understatement.
  22. Seems a genuinely nice bloke who is already well ‘on message’. Little wonder Nige called him ‘low maintenance’. Hoping for more ‘high output’ performances from him like yesterday. Good luck to the lad. Slowish start, but hope he becomes a real asset and key squad member in the future.
  23. Good effort overall, but two poor goals given away. Pring did ok with the clearance, not great, but ok. King had a simple flick on which should have led to a decent breakaway for us. He should have been aware of our player running on to the side of him and had the energy to do the flick. Simple fact he was physically and mentally knackered. Disappointing he hadn’t been subbed a few minutes earlier. Really awful marking for their headed goal and I thought Max could have gambled with a dive in that direction tbh. I know Nige doesn’t bleat on about our injuries, but maybe would expect Sky to mention something. Ok saying we’re a small team…but Lummydaze we’ve 3 ‘giant’ what were our first choice centre backs out …Bakes permanently, Atkinson for the season and beyond and Kalas unknown.
  24. Why should The Sags get free land? Lummydaze, the useless Mayor can’t even bang a few administrative neighbours heads together to allow us to use the LA Park & Ride for Bristol’s premier sport and entertainment facility. Nobody could argue that a professional football ground is essential, even vaguely connected, to needs generated by the development. My bet would be the developer merrily goes along with this until they get to an advanced stage/ have planning permission and then they’ll just dump the ground with the submission of further application. Only chance is if the City Council have some land holding essential to the development…. but that then comes back to the first question… why should The Sags benefit and not Bristol’s Ratepayers?
