I think we can all agree there has been a massive improvement since Christmas. I’ve seen many explanations as to why this might be; more solid at the back; more physical midfield which has allowed Scott more freedom; better wing play, but I have the definitive reason for the improvement.

On Christmas day my girlfriend gifted me a pair of Bristol City boxer shorts (see below) and I have been wearing them every match day since. Some might call this a coincidence. Others may call me a superstitious fool. But for as long as I keep wearing them on match days and we keep performing I will be continuing to wear them all the way to the premier league.

I was so moved by your post that I went on to the club shop website and bought three pairs.  The question now will be, do I wear them all at the same time for triple luck, or just the boring one pair at a time. Seeing as you know about this stuff, I would be interested in your guidance.

    At the risk of sounding like the United Nations here, can I say the following;

No way is Bajic as tall as Maenpaa let alone taller than him.

He’s considerably taller than Sinclair was though, he wasn’t 6ft.

I have been told by someone who should know that he’s 6ft 1 or thereabouts, so broadly the same as Max, shorter than Bentley & in modern goalkeeper terms a bit on the shorter side.

As for his career to have played 9 games in Ligue 1 before he was 20 is a decent pedigree, though St. Etienne were in a crisis at the time, from which they still haven’t recovered.

The Pau move was a bit odd, but maybe he saw it as an opportunity to play first team football & make an impression & earn a decent move.

I’m certainly not writing him off, if we had signed a 21 year old who had played 9 games for Wolves & then 15 on loan at say Tranmere, I think we’d be ok with that.

If he’s on the bench because Bentley moves on I can see why, we’ve had Wiles-Richards on the bench 7 times now & based on his career he appears an upgrade on him.

Mike Gibson was very short and was a magnificent goal keeper.  Even the current England 'keeper is fairly short.  Have faith!

Most prolific poster seems to be Davefevs  with 48800 posts.

Just done a quick calculation on this (assuming each posts takes 5 Minutes ) .

According to my calculation this equates to 169 days or just over 6 months continuous posting.

Or to put it another way Liz Truss's tenure as PM and Brian Clough in charge at Leeds combined would be less than half Davefevs posting record on OTIB

If you add the time he takes to do all his research, he must spend most of his waking time on the forum and on football matters in general.  He is very good at it though.

  4. It should be pointed out that he is still the owner and may still reap the rewards for his great investments.  In the 56 years that I have followed City, I have never seen anything like the stability given to us by SL and his family.  Once the temporary financial issues have receded, there may well be a good platform to push on to the promised land.  SL is still in the game!

  5. This was always going to be a long term project to rebuild our club.  If you can liken it to the captain of a trans-Atlantic ship - would you sack him in mid voyage if the ship was caught in a storm?  I doubt if his job is as easy as the keyboard warriors on this forum seem to think. We are still afloat and I reckon that Nige will bring the ship safely into port if given the chance.

Thanks. When might the/a pandemic have been better "timed" for Bristol City, would you say?

Sadly the transfer market outside the Premier League completely collapsed and we could no longer stem losses by selling players, let alone spending to improve the team.  It may take a year or two longer for all this to improve and in the meantime we have lots of excellent youngsters from the Academy, who will take time to find their feet and become steady players at Championship level.  Seeds have been sown and we still have too many seedlings and not enough mature plants - but seedlings tend to grow!

Yes, and what is the point of all that "infrastructure" ? What has it been put in place for? What's it designed to lead to? To what end has SL gone to such great expense?

The fact that he was unlucky with the timing of the pandemic and the fact that it ruined the plan to be self sufficient by judicious player trading, I would suggest that there is a magnificent foundation for the eventual advancement of the playing squad and hopefully promotion.  Nige has been dealt a rotten hand and is still building a squad on a shoestring and making great use of the academy.  We have seen duff periods in our history over the years and we now have the ingredients to make progress. Of course, the missing ingredient is patience amongst the fan base - but that has always been a feature of our club.

Personally I think all discussions on the Lansdowns quickly fly to extremes. They aren’t a ‘pox’ on the club and plenty of clubs have far worse owners but we also get a bit stuck on the idea that, if they went, there is absolutely nobody else out there who would not destroy the club.

Truthfully - whether you feel it should have happened quicker or not - Lansdown has got us to a point where we have the foundations of a top flight club - in terms of quality of stadium, training ground and academy - but a combination of bad luck and the wrong decisions at the wrong time have meant he has not delivered top flight football and he has clearly reached a point where he needs the club to wash its own face - which few clubs do, especially whilst succeeding on the pitch - and is at least open to, and perhaps very keen on, selling out entirely.

Of course there are risks with a sale that we end up with a Sisu, a Mike Ashley or whoever it is at Charlton but we could also end up with a new owner who can take the facilities in place and appoint the necessary football people to finally deliver.

Every change of ownership is a huge gamble - the devil you know for the devil you don't know.  We will not have a choice in any of this because it will be between SL and the new people. We just have to hope that we end up better off.  You are right about elements like timing and the various events that have troubled the past few years but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that SL will invest in the squad again when the circumstances and FFP permit.
