Yet when the news emerged that Manchester United were signing him, the reaction was universal disbelief and laughter. We thought they’d signed the wrong chap. So clearly, despite his obvious flair, he didn’t do that well for us overall.

He had his moments (debut goal and York away), but in-between he was fuseless

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you getting the name mixed up with Billy Menmuir? He came to City with Gerry Gow and the Ritchie brothers and was apparently better than all of them, but got homesick and went back to Scotland.

I'd suggest the 'better than all of them' bit was a bit of an exaggeration, baring in mind he achieved next to nothing after returning home, whereas Tom & Gerry went on to achieve legendary status.

As opposed to Jock Manure, which is a description we could apply to just about every other Scot we've signed since (Mr Murray being the exception)

After the collapse of the Fruit Market stadium, Rovers have announced exciting new plans for the Dried Fruit Arena.

They're just waiting for the developer to provide some dates for construction.

I call bullshit, they will never get planning persimmon

And it’s not like we’ve never been in the top-flight is it.

Id take a cup win too.

Cup win for me too. Then use the money to 'buy' promotion, entering europe on the crest of the wave, then the Champions League, before a pop at the league title.

If Manning doesn't achieve this in 3 years, he's out and we get Nige back.

Why would Aldershot fans hate us for?! 🤣

Bullies, one said. Remember a trip there in 1983, proper rumble at the back of the stand at half time, resulting in a foray onto pitch for me. Fortunately, I could run faster than 6 others, who became a tasty snack for the police dogs they let loose!

Pretty sure Alistair Campbell has told this story before, think it was a part of trying to get the Good Friday Agreement through. In Campbell’s version he tells him very quickly that it is a ridiculous idea, but who knows if that is true?

Brown & John Major are clearly the only PMs since Harold Wilson who were also real football fans, Brown wrote a brilliant article on Raith Rovers (he’s a shareholder, was a programme seller as a kid) recently & although much more of a cricket fan, Major is a Chelsea supporter of longstanding who doesn’t feel the need to keep mentioning it.

…but Major did feel the need to bang on about family values, whilst banging on Edwina!

    Abridged version

    Blair is a ****

Full version, Blair supported someone else’s idea, as it would help facilitate reconciliation of a very troubled area.

Sam Hammam was franchising the club (not Blair) and, to be fair, Belfast would have been a better option than Milton Keynes!

Don’t think they’ll be as open as Watford were. We’ll need to be patient.

They were wide open against Leicester - piled forward in numbers and looked dangerous. But were very susceptible to a quick break. I expect more of the same, an open game with goals. Hopefully, the majority of them will be ours!

  11. Still think Mehmeti is perfect for this tune…

When I find myself in times of trouble, Anis Mehmeti scores for me

Running down the left wing, for City

And in my hour of darkness he’s standing right in front of me

Running down the left wing, for City

    Mehmeti, Mehmeti, Mehmeti, Mehmeti

    Scoring goals for City, Mehmeti

You might want to have a word with them given he was here and at Leicester more than two years.

Some of the stuff against LM has been harsh, but generally understandable. It’s not often any manager takes over from someone the fans actually wanted to keep.

Season has a long way to go, there will be a lot of judgements along the way but let’s see where we are in May.

Don’t need a word, he’s probably right. NP had ruffled feathers here (and thank god he did), eventually making his stay untenable.

What’s not questionable is that he left both positions in markedly better states than he found them, creating organised, functioning foundations on which to build.

So, LM has inherited an unusual situation. Typically, a new manager enters a position where a team is losing and low in confidence, or is doing exceptionally well (and the only way is down). He hasn’t inherited a blank canvas - a lot of the picture is in place and he needs to colour it in. JL should be able to help him with that.

I was and remain a huge fan of NP, but I haven’t heard the Gate like that in Years, admittedly only the second half. He is doing something right.

I too remain a big NP fan, but there is a but… NP created the foundation, putting into place multiple foundations BUT, was he the right person to take us forward? Possibly.

However, the person I most respect in business told me he had a maximum 2 year shelf life. By that time he’d ruffled so many feathers, it’s time to move on. Time for a fresh face.

Taylor would be a decent appointment for them.

Decent on what basis (serious question)? He did okay at Exeter, yes. But that was a 'cosy' appointment at a club he knew well and was already a (little) bit of a legend there. At Rotherham, he did well to keep them in division, granted. But only just and the start to this season (when his ways really kick in) was very poor.

I'd say, at best, the jury is out on Matty Taylor (which probably swung it for him on this occasion)

As a lad, about 6 or 7 my g’dad bought my first pair of football boots - with a tin of dubbin and nailed in wooden studs. My dad must applied the dubbin as he must have every year as I grew into bigger boots.

My dad overcame that problem by buying me boots that were two sizes too big (11s, I was a 9). My feet stopped at 10, they never fitted properly, so I had to wear thick socks (nightmare when it came to spring).

They were Golas, bought from G.B. Brittons, Kingswood and I bloody loved 'em
