Obvious fix is to increase the solidarity payments so the playing field is level, but that won't help relegated clubs cope with the wage bills and transfer installments they'll be liable for, and whilst you could build in relegation clauses to players contracts, if you were signing a contract with a bottom 5 club in January, you would probably request that your top flight wage is unrealistic to compensate for the likely drop in salary.

My preferred option would be that parachute payments be held centrally and can only be used to pay the difference between the Premier league salary and the expected Championship salary for players relegated and signed no later than the penultimate transfer window. Purely to stop clubs from starting their Championship assault in their last Premier league season, with one flurry of last window activity.

(Edit. Obviously, with the unclaimed money being evenly distributed across all clubs).

That's an interesting solution. Alternatively, they could just say "suck it up", and force clubs to take the risk, same as they do moving from L2 to L1, L1 to Championship, etc. This would mean that clubs promoted would have to weigh up risks.

There would still be a financial gap from the TV revenues earned in the Prem, but it would be up to clubs whether to spend this all in year 1 to keep them in the Prem, or invest it in the future.

I really do wonder whether we can trust NP to turn this around. Mark Robins was once in the running for us, oh to see the style of pass and move football that Coventry produced with only 10 men.

And this possible appointment was derided by many on here as being unambitious and dull.

Personally, I don't see the value in dumping Pearson now. Where are the better options out there?

Just so everyone is aware - I’m 90% sure this is ‘RalphMilnesLeftFoot’ who was staunchly anti-Pearson and seemingly quit the forum a few weeks ago. Not worth replying to.

look at the screen name: TafkaRMLF" = "The artist formerly known as Ralph Milne's Left Foot" (Prince fans will recognise this trick)

Amazing! Players who don't want to cripple themselves playing injured are accused of 'lacking'

It seems the manager has lost it if he wants to play ' damaged goods' because he's fallen out with everyone else

Astounding thing to say, he must go.

I seem to remember the equally useless Jurgen Klopp aiming the same criticism at Sturridge. Perhaps he should have been sacked, too.

  5. I didn't see yesterday's game (sounds like I was lucky), but I recall in the past when Jordan took over we were dreadful until he'd had a chance to build his own team. Then we sauntered to promotion.

I'm not saying that the same thing will happen under Pearson, but it's clear we are (pardon the pun) hamstrung by high wages for players who aren't performing (Wells, Palmer most obviously). They probably need to be shipped out, although how we achieve that in the current market is a major issue.

That will give us the financial headroom to start improving the squad. I'm not convinced that Pearson's "old boys" approach (James, King, Simpson) has been a positive, however, so it needs to be more imaginative.

Oh, and anyone blaming the owner - get a grip.

  6. Pleased to see us taking a chance with youth, both home grown and imported (Tanner)

Just hope they both have agents that don't suddenly start seeing £ signs.

If they do, let's hope we get compensated by the transfer fee (and sell-on)

Maybe they should go back to David Moyes ?

It must be said, Moyes is doing a phenomenal job at West Ham.

God, it really is painful having to say something nice about the East End Inbreds.

Could be worse, he could be based in Immingham. I spent nearly 3 months one year working at this place. I have never felt so depressed in my life.

I did a project in Immingham once, not only horrible but also really, really rough. To put it in context, a colleague said "What a sh17hole that is, and I'm from Hull!" when I told him.

You obviously don’t know that Grimsby Town FC doesn’t play in Grimsby then ...

And you've obviously never been to Cleethorpes, either

I said within 3 months, which is quite widely known.

You first claimed that everyone was trying to be a medical expert, then made a statement about how possible it was to get COVID within a specific time period. Slightly contradictory, no?

As for the "widely known", I've worked in healthcare for 30 years and wouldn't dream of speculating about the possibility of an emergent and relatively unknown pathogen being caught more than once.

I won’t be watching as I simply cannot stand him, talentless massive self publicist.

He was a player who made the most of his talents, although he had his limitations. "Talentless"? Absolutely not. We could do with that sort of bite just now.

I've got a soft spot for Macc, so might give it a watch.
