  1. Just been to the sonny stores pop up in Quaker's friar, they’ve taken over the old Klausterhaus site whilst their usual place on Raleigh Road is being refurbed.

3 courses for £25, every weekday lunch. New menu every day.

Was amazing value (those with a * are eligible for the deal), essentially getting a 3 course meal that’s typically cost £40-£50 for £25. Highly recommend, and is an amazing work day pick me up!

My main takeaway from Allardyce was how out of touch he seemed to be with the game at the moment, e.g Nige was asked about Sheffield Wednesday and was talking about "Danny" (Rohl) and how he was doing well in his first job, to which Sam piped up with "who's Danny?".

It’s odd how many people in football really are like that, maybe players more so than managers. I guess if you’re so involved, unless you play against them, you won’t look at football anywhere near as intently as a fan would

  3. in full time training with the first team now, judging by todays uncut vid.

still No sign of Adam Murphy, who is clearly just 5 months in to the longest ‘mini pre season’ known to man.

    Tavistock is a must win.

The goal difference that Mousehole have could be crucial, although Larkhall are poor on the road so the hope has to be that continues.

Considering they could well get frome if they end up in the play offs, a positive result against them on Saturday is even more important

Tavistock, home of a Neil Warnock season ticket! Frequents their games quite often apparently.

I've been told that Jamie McAllister has been sacked after he allegedly headbutted someone at the awards evening.

Seen the above on twitter, could be bollocks

I thought it was just minibuses they liked headbutting

Ive had 3 separate messages from people saying the same 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve listened to this part a couple of times.  Surely Nigel would have phrased this differently if he suspected BT & JL we’re conspiring against him.  Does this exonerate BT of being a snake?

    It’s either…

    - JL is making decisions & conversations above Tinns role without consulting him, almost rendering him redundant

    - JL & Tinns had the conversation, and were in agreement, and Tinns never brought it up to Pearson

    - JL just made it up as a throw away comment/perception off the cuff in the interview

Not such which would be the worst tbh!

I particularly liked the bit where he said that we can talk about being ambitious (which is why he joined us) but we have to show that in terms of our actions re the squad in the summer. Over to you SL.

I think this & a few other pointed comments have all been quite clearly aimed at ‘the board’ - along with the “not going to change things overnight” “the squad is weaker than last year (paraphrased)” “difficult to change anything mid season” as a bit of ‘it’s not me guv, it’s them’ from Liam & Hoggy, and that the squad isn’t as good as was shouted from the rooftops about back in the autumn. I still standby the fact I’d be amazed if the squad is 2 players bigger in August than it currently is, and that there won’t be much movement in/out.

They’re not stupid, and know the pressure that’s been put of them by the comments in October & November, but the recent run of results has probably given them a bit of license that currently, in their mind, they’ve bailed JL/Tinns/GM out a bit of what was an extremely toxic situation.

In all seriousness, I'm interested to know how he knows that there's that preconception of him. Someone obviously told him. I'm sure Nige use to reference things that the fans thought too. How do they know?

Because he had at MK & Oxford too, so won’t just be from his time here so far.

It’s pretty clear that a lot of people at the club read (and join!) here though, and however much they deny it, read twitter.

    Just seen.

I thought he had that rattyness about him to have an EFL career.  Think he was a bit loose technically / with the ball, but he’d get it back for you.  Hope he finds a new club and can kick his career back off.

Guessing Sam Pearson waiting to see what offers he is gonna get.

Think Josh has WSM written all over him, although may not be good enough on the ball or technical enough for their style. I never quite saw it in him personally, I guess Yeovil need to be a bit more ruthless now though.

James Morton been flying at Southend. Would be amazed if he’s not back in the EFL within the next few windows.

In Nat Lge N, I see Glos City are relegated. Which league will they play in next season please?

A few years ago Lowestoft made it to Nat Lge S, but when they were relegated a year or two later they were placed in a different one to which they had won promotion from.

It depends on the teams that came down/up from the leagues around, and their location I think. Is the same as those that come down from NL, if there’s too many north/south teams they essentially ‘move the line’ of what classes as north & south divide madly.

Technically, they could have sold less in the South Stand than this season and it’d be sold out because they’re not selling them.

    Mind. Blown.

“We sold no tickets in the south stand, no one renewed”

“Wait a minute, that’s means…. We sold out!!!!”

  12. Manning looked like he couldn’t be less interested in him when asked in the presser.

“has looked decent in training this week, tbf”

    basically = “he’s been ******* crap usually” !!

Because it was sold out last season and any available could be gone due to seat moves

Nah I know a few people in SS who haven’t renewed at all so can’t be, ah well not a big deal I guess

  14. Given the deadline has been and gone, and nothing has been said about number of renewals vs the amount of posts that were made at the same point this time last year, suggests the numbers are probably not looking very good thus far.

Football is a brutal environment and the power dynamic is so heavily loaded in favour of the clubs. Communication with players is dreadful in the main from what I see and hear.

I know of a second year scholar at one of the local clubs whose season ends next week and he still hasn’t been told if he has a pro deal for next year. I know of another lad who is a second year pro at a Championship club and he hasn’t been told what his fate is yet either. These lads work their backsides off, it’s all they’ve ever known in many cases, and even this late in the day some of them still don’t know it they have a job at the end of May.

My own experience is also one of poor communication. Unless you’re one of very few ‘chosen’ players in a club’s academy you turn up week in week out, have no idea what the future holds for you, and have to be where they tell you to be when they tell you to be there often at very short notice. As players and parents you know you just have to accept that’s how it is if you want to be involved, but it’s no wonder a lot of boys are lost to the game when they’re released. It’s very easy to become disillusioned when you put your heart and soul into something, get little feedback or encouragement, and end up getting rejected with minimal explanation as to why. As I say, you know what you’re getting into but it is a brutal environment.

Couldnt agree more. One of my childhood best mates was pro at Rovers for a few years, was taken out of school here and there to train with the first team when we were in year 11 (naturally, the coolest thing imaginable at that age).

Ended up signing a 2 year deal pro, first team player, starting a fair few games here and there, then renewed for a further year before being released the year they went down to the conference in 2014.

On the face of it, he’s living the dream/made it/a pro athlete/anything else you want to say. And probably fell into the usual stereotypes many people would think of a young footballer at that time, lounging around playing fifa together etc.

He had basically no intention of trying to climb back through the leagues of trying to scrap off one year deals here and there, ended up turning down the latter at Exeter and maybe some others.

Had a chat with him about it, as typically me and our mates couldn’t get our head around it, would tease him a bit for ‘giving up’ etc, but he made a snap comment that really changed my perspective on any young player going through that period, of which there’s hundreds and hundreds at any time - not quite verbatim, but basically

“Would you take a full-time job being paid £12k a year for the next few years, where you could get told you’re no longer needed & get sacked at any point?”

Remember Tristan Plummer was going to be the big star ( u17 England international etc) , but he never got another EFL club after being released - played non league for several years including WSM.

Came back from u17 World Cup with a “this isn’t what I play football for” type mentality apparently. Hated all the noise, stress and media around it. Probably explains why he wanted to stay at non league level basically forever thereafter.

Zac Bell and Ben Acey playing for Taunton last week. Another two that I doubt will make it in the pro game, certainly not Bell.

Think the latter is already planning on going back to Guernsey.

The one that’s really stood out to me in recent years is Opi Edwards. From what I saw of him for Weston this year, would honestly say he’s probably toolstation level, if that.

  18. In hindsight, appointing someone who needed “real convincing to join” and even after agreeing didn’t want to take charge for another 4 months, the warning signs were certainly there!

Any excuse for a shameless plug too:

Is Sam good at asking good questions? To my knowledge he's not a practised journalist, and I think the only time I've seen him asking questions is over a pint of wine...which went poorly for him.

I think I just want to know whether Pearson thought we had a squad capable of competing at the top of the division.

I'd also be interested to know whether he thinks there are any managers out there that play his style of football, but do it better than him.

Natalie Pike is a professional journo and broadcaster, she’ll be the one asking and driving all the questions & direction. Big Sam is just a name to help the publicity

Sacked on 29 October 2023 right? So 6 months is 29 April 2024. Does this podcast come out after that date?

6 months is a fairly common length of time in settlement agreements...it might be that he can say certain things from Monday onwards...?

PS (I may be guilty of stirring the pot a bit here)

PPS I thought I was quite up on the football podcasts but I'd never heard of this one. Is it big?

Maybe, honestly no idea. It’s big on the basis that Sam Allardyce hosts it, and it’s sponsored by Hills, so social clips/presence and listener numbers will be pretty big. Having a browse through old episodes, they are all big names. Imagine it goes into the top 15/20 consistently with every new episode they release.
