Just following on from our chat at the weekend over what a ‘good performance’ is and how each of us arrives there, the Second Tier podcast think we got it exactly right on Saturday and played a blinder relying on our ability to switch shape and draw upon the resilience Nige has brought with him. Just interesting how we all see things differently ?

I think the point is we are starting from the ground up with what Ashton left us. You look at what you’ve and how best you can utilize it. We’re nowhere near able to play fast flowing passing football. We are trying to secure 50 points and begin to build a club again.

I don’t think anyone disagrees with Rob’s sentiments that overall we’re not brilliant. I just think there’s a lot of ‘doubling down’ on the negatives. Its like it’s desperately trying to convince us we’re not very good. We know that, you don’t need to try. Everyone accepts it’s going to be a tough, imperfect season. I’m more surprised by the improvements so far ? It’s how it comes across sometimes, just my opinion ?

I don’t think it’s a case of rise tinted glasses or even not ‘calling it for what it is’, I moan as bad as the rest of them ? But even I can see areas of improvement from last year and whether you accept it or not we keep picking up results, with increased possession, attempts, shots, passes completed, than last year. Its not great, I can see that, but neither is it desperate or appalling.

Rob’s just been on a bit of a downer lately. I posted after the QPR game that it’s apparent to most the level we currently operate at, it’s almost like we’re wallowing in our own self pity. We’re better than I thought we would be this year and that’s a positive. It’s almost like some are constantly measuring us against a playoff bar or something. Its clear to see the improvement on the squad ethos and effort, which is an improvement from last year. Overall is anyone disappointed with the season so far? Even though our performances suggest we’re not a top 10 team. It’s been alright hasn’t it?

His appointment came JUST in time. A big difference. The should have happened a season before Johnson ultimately. But here we are and it’s all good ?

I like the way Nige praised him on Radio Bristol but also said there are other aspects they will talk about as well. What I like is the way that Nigel is managing the team to get a positive response. Wells and Palmer appear to be responding in a good way.
