  1. Yeah exactly. That was literally the point of my post, how would you even legalise it to an extent that it is recreationally 'suitable', without creating future addicts (your Portugal point is noted) and just as importantly without the subsequent crime surrounding it. Though probably my fault for not being clear!
  2. That'll be opioids though right? Drug policy just needs a complete revamp from top to bottom doesn't it? But a big problem is that none of us know what the end point really looks like. Complete bans clearly aren't working, complete legalisation across the board would be inevitably dangerous, and anything in between is tricky because we are already so poor at categorising them, and they impact different people in different ways. In my opinion, and of course many will disagree, the actual act of taking some party drugs occasionally probably isn't too bad. If all you're doing is creating a bit of euphoria at a festival or a gig a few times a year, the health issue is probably far less compared to something like alcoholism. But how on earth would you facilitate something like that without inducing addiction and of course causing these crime issues? Similarly, more and more research is coming out and has been for years, to suggest that some of the more natural drugs are beneficial in their own way. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure that a shroom trip is particularly dangerous at all, and yet it's a Class A and could theoretically land you 7 years in prison for possession. Where's the sense in that? On the psychedelic front, some of the greatest minds of the past few decades took acid, and at least a couple attribute their skill and success to that. The opening poster makes a great point about the morality of it but it's naive to think that we could guilt-trip people into stopping on that front. It needs to be either banned, or legalised to an extent that the power is taken from the dealers. But is that even possible? I'm not backing a blanket legalisation at all - I'm just trying to demonstrate that there are a million different perspectives here and it's almost impossible to legislate fairly for all. All I know is, the current system is not working.
  3. The one I remember under Bristol Sport was Dino Zamparelli, famed for this save: Huge save, especially given what has happened at Radillon and onto the Kemmel Straight in previous years.
  4. Wasn't sure where to post this but I know a few people have mentioned original plans for a 2-tier Atyeo that got shelved due to right to light. Well I just came across the attached, having never seen an image of the proposals before. Quite interesting that it would have been an extra 5,000 seats on top of what we ended up with, and also filled in the corners around to the Williams and Dolman. And that it would have cost only £4m!

Was there not an older plan for the Dolman boxes that involved a lift being built at the back? Perhaps in the 80s/90s? Am I imagining that?
  6. Can't say too much above what's already been said, aside from the fact that with NP here, this feels like a huge missed opportunity. And it probably wouldn't feel quite so bad if we hadn't previously massively backed other less-talented and less-proven managers. But we now have someone in as manager who has previously had a huge part in building a PL-winning squad, and we've gone and stopped the funding. Of all times, this just feels the worst. It's SL's money, it's his prerogative. It just feels like a huge missed opportunity, that's all.
  7. Just been looking at the time period during which this was used.... I wonder if this could have impact on our very own Dolman Stand? It would fit in the correct timeframe.
  8. Agreed. And not to go against @Kid in the Riot, he's a top poster and clearly knows far more than I do so more than happy to concede if necessary. But the Lansdown's and the board sat around a table twirling their (metaphorical) moustaches waiting for NP to meltdown and quit? On what basis? Simply because they don't like him? And why the sudden change of direction? Maybe I'm naive, but I just don't see it.
  9. I do think some of the comments on here are very OTT. 'Disgusted' and the like - the guy has put a ton of money into City previously, often where it wasn't even the wisest, and there could well be a plan in place, difficult as it is to envisage, and it might be for good reason. A potential sale could well be that. So I'd be willing to give them time to give us a response of sorts, which we do deserve. Problem is, will we get that clarity? And if so, when?
  10. No one's saying that at all. If you don't think they're very good that's entirely fair. But suggesting that someone is only there because they're fulfilling some sort of quota, like you did, quite literally is sexist.
  11. I'm intrigued to hear what he has to say - and I think we should all chill a bit until we hear some justification. At the end of the day, love or hate his ownership style, this is very out of character for the guy who has previously completely backed us when legally possible, for good or for bad. I know he doesn't speak often, but I'm sure it will happen at some point, and there must be a reason for this happening. It seems very unlike his previous ownership style. Similarly, the hysteria over the possibility of LJ coming back is purely people whinging for the sake of whinging. The only evidence of that happening is the fact that LJ has been sacked from another club, which is just ridiculous, and peak OTIB. I don't for one minute imagine that he would be brought back here. It's frustrating, but it's also out of character, so I'm very intrigued to hear what might come out in the future.
  12. I'm pretty sure that we theoretically could, but obviously that's not ideal practice and it's the exact sort of behaviour that got us into a mess previously. You chuck that at the wage budget and but then in 2 or 3 years time when you still have that high wage bill but you haven't made another £25m in sales you're then ****ed. It's certainly an interesting situation - SL has never really been afraid to spend money before so there must be a reason behind it. I doubt he's falling on hard times, though the losses are undoubtedly adding up. Perhaps a takeover or other investment is close, and potential buyers want to see some sort of financial stability/security before taking the leap? I'm struggling to think of any other scenario to be honest. With a lot of clubs tightening their budgets and with us making a fair bit in fees, you'd think (from my entirely uneducated perspective that is) that this would be a tactically ideal time to push the boat out a bit. I'm really intrigued by this, it's pretty perplexing. As much as many criticise SL, it's pretty rate for him to reign it in like this. Overall, I think this once again reinforces that Nige is doing a pretty damn good job given what he has had to work with financially.
  13. Viewing figures are very much on the up from what I gather, unfortunately that will undoubtedly be the metric of 'success' used by the owners and management, when in reality the soul of the sport has been bleeding from it for quite a while. It's quite bittersweet to be fair. Unlike a lot of others, I think this new rise in celebrity culture with F1, the idea that an F1 event is a huge spectacle regardless of the location, and all of that subsequent marketing around it to position it as an elite sport, is generally pretty good. There's no doubt as well that the owners have made the sport so much more accessible to fans, particularly with the online side of things, which is something that Bernie just had no interest or understanding of whatsoever. But when it comes to the actual soul of the sport.... it's just diminishing. Adrian Newey himself bemoans the lack of creative room that is now left for designers. Rules that now mean it's almost impossible to win (with admittedly a few exceptions) unless you are an OEM or a main customer of an engine manufacturer. A complete inability to even drive let alone race in the wet. And now probably mid-way through what will be the least competitive (in terms of 1st place) era in the history of the sport. It's certainly worse than the Hamilton/Merc days, and if it continues it will overtake the Schuey/Ferrari days comfortably. All with less and less creativity allowed to designers, and more and more generic parts all over the place. Not to mention squeezing evermore races into weekend slots that basically now don't exist. This isn't a complete criticism of Liberty Media, I do like a lot of what they've done, but nothing shows F1 up for what it is more than having a new incoming fanbase largely made up of the sort who have no understanding of the sport, will follow the (sometimes entirely manufactured) drama from Drive to Survive, and make their judgments and buy a ton of merch based off of that. I certainly have mates who are like that, couldn't stand the sport before but now because Norris has some made up beef with X driver, will buy a ton of McLaren clothing and have no concept of what's happening. To Liberty that's a financial and engagement success. To the sport itself, it offers absolutely nothing. I don't know where it goes from here. I like that they're trialling new ways of racing in the wet, and I think they are aware enough to realise that they need competition for the sport to thrive. I just hope they find a way to get there.

If you were to add a second tier you would near more room than just up . You'd need to have a load more space in behind to add it too.

Lots of talk here of adding a second tier to the South Stand, but surely it's no different to the Atyeo in that it requires house purchases (albeit fewer). At least with the Atyeo there is the physical room for a bigger stand, the South Stand is already cutting it fine with 4 or 5 of them!
  16. Are you referring to Knowle Stadium? Some great pics here. I think the Wells Road/West Town Lane/Hengrove Lane junction would be roughly where the 2 roads meet to the left of the below picture. I only discovered that this even existed a few months back to be honest, though maybe common knowledge for a few of you guys. Along similar lines, as a bit of a racing nerd, it really surprised me to discover that some F2 races were held at Whitchurch Airport in the 50's in what's now Hengrove Park, with a fair few F1 drivers taking part.
  17. Either a bug in the CMS, or the content manager may have copied an old article as a 'base' template to update and not updated it properly. Weird one either way
  18. Love the AFL but I had no idea of that, great spot. Shame, more of a Pies fan myself!
  19. Depends what you're after really. We're in our early 30's and Stokes Croft tends to be our typical thing these days.
  20. 100% agree with you. I was just responding to a poster who thought his value might go up in Jan, which I disagree with.
  21. Doesn’t really matter though imo. With 18 months left, and definitely with 12, clubs know you risk losing your best asset for free in the not too distant future so have that extra bargaining power. Even with the season of his life, his value won’t be above £25m in January purely for that fact. I could be wrong but purely from a transfer value perspective, this is the prime time to sell imo. Though I obviously hope we keep hold of him, who knows what we could achieve if we manage to do so.
  22. I’m all for keeping him myself also. Even if his value does drop, it’s worth the punt of keeping hold of him. But if he does have a decent season I’m more than willing to bet we would get less for him in Jan than now. And even less 6 months on from that.
  23. To be honest at that point he'd have 18 months left on his deal. I'd expect his value to drop rather than increase from £25m.
  24. Only one episode but this one is really good from one of our own. Watson is fully City and does a really good job of describing the relatively bleak overall situation of Bristol football over the 80's and 90's, as well as the feeling of a Bristol derby. Really liked it. https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/s12-ep10-mark-watson-and-bristol-city/id1209129231?i=1000621337644
