  1. Hang on - for some of us when we first started following City there were no subs. In City's case even when allowed to use them they didn't. I forget the record (Slarti will know) but I recall we went a season or longer without using one (a record surely never to be beaten.) I know who the first substitute was but not who City's first sub was. Any ideas?
  2. Several times on Robins TV they made reference to him 'trying one trick too many', or 'trying to do too much'. What they actually should have said was 'trying to control the ball, unsuccessfully'. He didn't score, he rarely does, he gave the ball away easily but he wasn't the worst (I'll reserve that again for Wells who other than miss his first header did nothing so far as I could see.) Again tonight it was blatantly obvious, if we want to compete we need a fire sell, including the non-strikers on show.
  3. Always said exactly that. Reid had an exceptional 6 months upfront because we caught teams cold - they underestimated his ability. As soon as they adjusted he was quickly found out. Amazing Cardiff/Fulham didn't cotton-on to the fact he's a far superior player behind the front two. But Semenyo is no Reid. Although neither are volume goalscorers Reid had consistent and quality output; he could pick a pass and find an opponent. He could also harass & close. Semenyo has the occasional mazy run but largely his end product is severely found wanting. Both side netting and hoardings know that from bitter experience.
  4. Perchance like Garita, Burns, Eisa, Engvald, McCoulsky and other 'wunderkinds' too numerous to mention he'll be scoring occasionally somewhere. He may even follow in the steps and hit the heights of much missed De Giralomo who's banging one in every other game....at Buxton! And there was I thinking we had pretentions to be a Championship contender.....
  5. He's 21. He'll be 24 in three years time and he'll still only be netting 1 in 9 if playing upfront.
  6. If folks are trying to bolster Semenyo's prowess by including league & cup fixtures he's notched 9 in 83 appearances, not forgetting half of which were in Divs 1&2. Striker he ain't.....
  7. Chairman otherwise known as 'Kim Il Soon Be History'
  8. Perchance you misread the quote? Might it be Jordan they're after as weren't they screaming for 'two big lumps upfront'?
  9. Astute signing then as he'll know what to do given the wheels have come off.....
  10. Did they think Covid has been given squad number 19?
  11. I'll give you the Locarno's starry ceiling was a thing of beauty but never had time much to look at it given the requirement to constantly scan for thuggish bouncers who took delight in bouncing folks down the concrete stairs......for no reason whatsoever..... Kings I wouldn't know (never had the guts or Mac to go in) - more an Arts Centre or Arnolfini flicks watcher, me....
  12. Perhaps he said some Gas player was a 'josher', as in no way could the ridiculing joker be a professional footballer?
  13. I can only reference those from the 70's (my teenage years) where Bristol's pubs and clubs we're dark, dingy, dirty, dilapidated and left one feeling like needing a long scrub in the bath having visited. A bit like experiencing Eastville, Twerton or The House of Tents....
  14. What I wouldn't pay to be able (by the miracle of time travel) to witness you two shopping in a 'fashionable boutique'.....?? All Peter Wyngarde I reckon....
  15. Odd how things stick in ones head, eh Slarti? I struggle to recall who we played last week but remember as clear as day sitting in a carriage in Cleethorpes station, Aug 72, listening to Popcorn on the chart show. Schools Out was No 1. Like many at the time and after footy on the Saturday, my folks were prone to taking me on the BR "mystery away-day" service from Parson Street on a Sunday. The trauma runs deep.....
  16. When you listen to the opening, driving chords on the keyboard riff you realise it seems obvious..... Don't we know it Slarti, don't we know it......
  17. Hate to be a pedant but 'Disco' Slarti wouldn't allow me to bypass this. Whilst Chicory Tip had the hit that was a cover, it was written and first recorded by Giorgio Moroder. Everybody knows the chorus but the lyrics are something else .
  18. Tale of Two Cities - I thought you were going to paraphrase Bill Shankley's famous comment.... There are two football teams in Bristol, City & City Reserves....
  19. To celebrate end of lockdown and news today of vaccine approval I went out en famille. So when in the Uber on the way back Elvis over the radio warbles: "It's gonna be a blue, blue Xmas," I knew I didn't need to look up their result. Remember all: Pest, Disgrace, Relegate.....
  20. In medical parlance I believe such sections of the populous are marked : 'Do Not Resuscitate'....
  21. Have they kicked off yet about AG being chosen as one of the national vaccination centres (clearly with quality of infrastructure that supports such a critical national programme?) Can't wait for their Gaschat to query why the House of Tents was passed over - loads of space, darn cold in those portakabins and tents, very few enclosed spaces et al..... So City earn income from providing the facility and the losers in life have to come to AG for life-saving treatment..... Their blood will boil....
  22. If they did use DRC then that's wholly spurious in justifying a sales cost as, de facto, it depends upon usage. If Derby go down will they take an instant hit given they've no need for a facility that size & purpose? It also potentially assumes they could never rent or co-share an alternate facility. I've only ever used DRC to justify insurance/contingency cover. For example, I once controlled a very large production facility (warehouse) with extraordinary levels of security specification. The cost of replacement was huge but only so long I I needed to produce what it was at the time producing. The day that requirement ceased, it instantly became a worthless warehouse. For that reason itd intrinsic book value always remained low, yet it's DRC assessed cover remained high.
  23. There's still a major issue football needs to address in how IFRS allows infrastructure assets to be accounted. As Sheff Wed, Derby et al have shown it's possible to think of a number and provided one is selling to an 'interested party' one may evidence 'market value', even if it's nothing of the sort. Sports stadiums, unless there's another team needing such facility, are largely specialist, limited value assets. It's only the land on which they stand that has long-lasting value. Problem is if it's land for development once one takes into account clearance, CIL & Section 106 costs it's probably only worth a quarter of what the asset's valued at. Not sure it's yet been tested but should one of the clubs struggle, sell the ground at a loss (possibly to temporarily groundshare elsewhere,) does the hit they take count as expense under FFP in the same way as the inflated sales account as income? If they don't there's an opportunity to keep flipping assets to incur profits and losses as deemed necessary.
  24. Scumbag Wednesday bring the game into disrepute, though as a long-established 'big club' are deemed more important than others. Their arguments as set out in the first two appeals are clearly spurious and had regulation allowed should have allowed the EFL to impose additional sanctions, but that would never happen. EFL only like to punish the small and weak, those who aren't part of the Old Boys network. Unlike as demonstrated against many smaller clubs sanctions are supposed to be immediate and non-negotiable, which beggars why the EFL were so collaborative in deferring the sanction at Wednesday's request in the full knowledge they might later appeal it not being to imposed as per the regulation? That 'loophole' exists for good reason and is to be used where clubs have unwittingly breached regulation, admitted having done so, have openly demonstrated remorse and made full effort to rectify matters. None of which scumbag Wednesday showed any inclination toward doing. One thing is for sure, when they and their lawyers left court in taxis, it wasn't in those who purport to sponsor the club..... What's the betting the £42m for the ground is never settled in full?
