  1. https://uk.style.yahoo.com/gary-lineker-hits-qatar-world-170000768.html https://www.thenationalnews.com/sport/decision-to-award-qatar-the-2022-world-cup-was-ludicrous-says-gary-lineker-1.650173 https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/16651632/qatar-world-cup-gary-lineker/ "Will I support the Qatar World Cup in a sense of all that? No, because they’ve got too many fundamental human rights wrong. I’m aware of all that. “Will I do stuff for Qatar in the World Cup? Absolutely not. Whatever they wanted to pay me the answer would be no. But I will go there and report the World Cup for the BBC.” There are some explanations, whether you agree with him or not, there. He hasn't stayed silent on it at all. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the players to not take the knee there personally though, even though I support them doing it here. You'd broadly expect players to abide by the customs of the country it's held in, which obviously has an appalling human rights record. Most of them will only get one or two chances to play for their country at a world cup, and it's not their fault where it's held. You can generally support something, but that doesn't mean you have to base your entire life around it. That goes for all of us. If you're not going to do everything, is it just better to do nothing at all?
  2. And can you please tell me if you can see any of this "mob" in the room with you right now?
  3. Concentrating for 90m+ in a league like the Championship is incredibly taxing. We've got so many kids out there it's not surprising they sometimes make mistakes, and that their concentration isn't always spot on. It'll come, it's getting better. We're on a path now I don't feel we have been for at least 3 years. I really enjoyed the game tonight overall.
  4. Four league wins in a row at home now - think we've got a good chance of a result tonight as well if we keep our current trajectory going. Actually looking forward to heading to AG again these days!
  5. Start handing out O'Dowda's to them all. That'd soon knock it on the head.
  6. Hah that's interesting - yeah I sit in the Lansdown and often like to check Pearson's reaction to those moments as he's pretty funny sometimes. Had no idea Klose was part of it too! Thought it was a bit of good cop / bad cop going on.
  7. Near the end after Massengo didn't take the ball into the corner, Weimann and Pearson were both absolutely laying into him. Klose jogged forward, arm around his shoulder, and chatted in his ear for a few seconds in a really considerate manner. Thought it was a great little moment. From the interview after that first game he played I thought he showed what an excellent attitude he had.
  8. Can only be good news, not just for the recruitment itself but also for Pearson who I get the impression is being stretched pretty thin currently with the amount of things he's having to do.
  9. Yeah it's certainly not ideal... I don't have enough knowledge to point to where the issue is. Clearly some of it has to be at the medical team, but I don't buy what seems to have become semi accepted fact they were slicing people up in the treatment room while everything else was pretty much spot on. What I'm hoping though is we've learnt this year about returning players and will be more cautious - look at the way Williams has been reintroduced compared to last year. A lot more slowly / measured in my opinion. I think Pearson is probably more confident to gently ease a player back, or rest them even if he knows it will weaken the team than Holden was. That's not really a criticism of Holden either, it's pretty understandable given their relative experience levels).
  10. A team who were expected to be near the bottom of the table who signed 3 defenders over the summer (Baker, Atkinson, Tanner) - all of whom are now injured. And two extremely experienced midfielders over the summer (James, King) - both of whom are now injured. Are conceding a lot of goals? Hmmm. The article says itself, after 10 games we were 7th for goals conceded and it's gone downhill from there. Look at the team we're having to put out. We must have about the youngest / most inexperienced central midfield pair, Vyner and a free transfer in central defence, Dasilva playing out of position. Of course it's disappointing but maybe it isn't that much of a mystery when the back line and 2/3 in front of them has been different every half dozen games all season, and largely not through choice. Personally I think we're also sacrificing stability / organisation in order to try out players for next year, but that's another conversation.
  11. I don't know. A guess would be that in order to find out who deserves to be here next year clear expectations need to be set, and no doubt when they're not met, or he feels people aren't meeting them, it's incredibly frustrating. He still wants to win, and after a defeat I'm sure he's pissed off - especially if it's in a manner he thinks could be avoided. That doesn't mean he doesn't accept any mistakes or "transitional" performances along the way, and I'm sure it's easier to be a bit "big picture"/stoical once the dust has settled.
  12. I'm interested in why our offensive rating (number of goals we'd be expected to score against an average team) is so low, when we've scored the most goals outside of the top 6. Maybe as we're beating the bottom teams consistently that's skewed our stats a bit? We are still out performing our strength though, which they calculate as the 4th worst in the division. It's based off previous seasons calculated strength (67%) and the value from transfermarkt (33%) it looks like - makes sense it's so low then. At the start of the year they had as relegated, so we're out performing their model so far.
  13. Me too! My partner used to live nearby so we used to go there a lot (along with the Star and Dove). Maybe it got taken over when the garden got redone or something? They put quite a bit of money into it by the look of things,
  14. Victoria Park is a decent community gastropub, reasonable selection of beer, good food, pizza oven out the back and nice garden. Usually pretty busy especially at the weekends. White Hart got taken over recently I think and refurbished (sort of). It's kind of a Wetherspoons wannabe from what I can tell, pretty cheap beer, live sports, sourz shots and karaoke at the weekend.
  15. I read somewhere recently that the flags the linemen have are almost entirely for the fans these days so we know what's going on. The ref as far as I know isn't looking at them to see what they think he should do - he's already been told. Edit: realised Dave already basically said this above in the bit you quoted, sorry!
  16. Why? General consensus is we're not going to go down this year so what's the benefit. Personally I think Pearson knows he's got enough points on the board, and as such has started playing more youngsters and experimenting with what he hopes will next year become our actual and effective style of play. If we found ourselves in a relegation fight I think we would swap back to something safer - but if we can get reliable minutes at Championship level into our youngsters, and them playing in a more effective formation where they can enjoy their football and express themselves what's the downside? I think he's given/giving Max a real fair go, Vyner a fair go, Jay, Scott, Semenyo, Pring, and so on - and I'm not sure if it were solely results we were after that'd be the case. Some will sink and some will swim, for quality or application reasons and this is the best time to find that out. It has downsides of course - but I think he accepts that a few Ws become Ds, and Ds become Ls - but at the end of the season that wont have any real effect on anything in my opinion. We're not going to miss out on the playoffs as a result or go down... maybe he'll lose his all important "He improved our league position year on year" line It's more of the long term thinking.
  17. I remember back during the redevelopment the Atyeo roof was used as a reason that the home fans were quiet. Also not sure I buy the fact the home fans need to be next to away ones - in fact, lots of traditional "home ends" which create loads of noise aren't. I think we've just been served up a lot of crap on the pitch for quite a few years now, and it's had an effect. When the football is exciting again (and it's getting there, slowly) the atmosphere will come back as well whatever configuration the fans are stood in.
  18. I kind of get the forum can be a bit of a funny place sometimes, especially if you have a niche view - so taking a step away for a bit to reassess is sensible if it's stressful. I get that. The "delete me from existence" stuff was very odd though. What I don't get however is returning under a poorly thought out name CLEARLY referencing your old one, denying it, and then immediately starting to post in the exact same rude / provocative / toxic manner that got people's backs up in the first place. There are thousands upon thousands of members on this forum, and the vast majority manage to get along really well. If you find a repeated problem I'd suggested some introspection, rather than throwing blame/attacks around at everyone else, even if it's only for your own mental health/wellbeing.
  19. Alright no need to really put the boot in while we're down, wow
  20. I know you have the kind of unparalleled insight most of us could only dream of, meaning we're of course all very keen to know what you think specifically. However there's a handy button on every post you can press if you agree with it which stops people having to fill threads up with stuff like this.
  21. But it does happen, huge vulnerabilities in are found all the time. I don't know if you8work in software, but if so your company will probably have been thrown into turmoil in the last month, along with most of us, with the log4j vulnerability.
  22. The odds of it happening doesn't matter, you said it wasn't possible.
  23. Browsers themselves have exploits in them, as do the extensions you use. Malicious websites will check and exploit them to run code on your system, which can steal info or just background download something unauthorised and then run it without you ever knowing. Each time you visit a site your browser is downloading and storing a load of data from it. It's usually just a matter of including something malicious, and then getting it to execute it. Easier said than done of course If you're really interested the main technique is called a "drive by download", or if you google "exploit kit" you'll find some old examples. I think the amnesty international website was hacked to include one a few years ago for example which infected thousands. Here are a couple of examples if you want them: https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2005-4560 https://www.rapid7.com/db/modules/exploit/windows/browser/ms12_037_ie_colspan/ They are unusual but they do exist.
