I was In Taunton the weekend wearing my Bristol City shirt and random person @ Asda said "ive just bought my Bristol city shirt like yours of ebay"

he then said he did not know where ashton gate was (when i asked him has he been to any games this season) (he said NO) and how to even get a season ticket me and my uncle walked away and thought ok then!

mmm

and he claims he is a Bristol city fan mmm :noexpression:

Its not some secret club supporting city, there is no test to pass. I'm getting really sick of all this arrogant 'i'm a better fan than you' and 'part time supporter' 'not a genuine supporter'.

Maybe they have just started supporting us, we all had to start somewhere. Give them a break and get off your high horse.

You see Matty old love should we ever get to the 'promised land' thing kind of thing ill happen a lot and any of our whiners (they are one or two surprisingly) that bang on about 'bloody part timers, I was there during the reserve matches when Atyeo got four' will be having a field day.

Just be gracious and asnwer the questions politely and be grateful you are staring at the blue and white abomination or a Manure one.

Its not about being a better fan. its about loyalty - would this new 'supporter' be buying the shirt if we were in league one?? will he be a supporter still IF we got a couple of relegations and were playing in league two??

If these new 'supporters' end up supporting us through thick and thin then they are VERY welcome. But I suspect the majority of therse new supporters will not and p1ss me off because the just like man utd fans - GLORY HUNTERS

so would you rather we had averaged 12000 this season as we did in league one? and we had taken 15000 to wembley as that was our average crowd this season (including away fans i might add)

Got to start supporting at sometime, I was not a fan of football until I was about 21. If people asked me which team I was I would say City due to living south of Bristol. I then went to a few matches with a friend and have been hooked since, I don't go to every home match as my family life is more important than football. I do try to go as often as possible and YES I did go to Wembley, sorry if you feel I took a real fans ticket. Once my boys are old enough I will watch more often until then as many as I can fit in.

Am a City fan, you decide?

I would say HELL YEAH. It hurts when we lose and it's heaven when we WIN!!

With Wembley you often find that regulars bring the rest of there family, for example I would like to have taken my son and girlfriend, so i don't have any bad feelings about us taking 38,000 to wembley. But yes i would rather us averaged 12000 in league one, why not. Point is, I hope these new fans become 'true fans' and stick with us, no matter what. If there only supporting us cos they think we are/going to be successful then they can **** off!

The fact is i'm now seeing people that I know wearing city shirts, who either a) don't even like football or b) have said in the past that city were sh!t. that aint right is it??

I think were a fashionable team to support at the moment!

I bought an Unam Pumas shirt of ebay.

I don't know where they play, don't know how to get a season ticket and havent been to any of there games.

Does that mean you are going to laugh at me??

Only if you donate money to an already well paid footballer who left the club for a large signing on fee and increase in wages....

I really really don't care, anyone is free to support who they want and no one should stand in their way. Not you, nor I.

The level they support city, I also do not care. Some peoples lives do not revolve around football, and they will come watch city from time to time, or check the score on ceefax or whatever. Yeah, when we are doing well they will jump on the band wagon, but so what? How does it damage you? Or the club?

Any exposure to City, however long or in depth, is a good thing. Even if they just buy one shirt or go to one or two games, its more money for the club.

And then, if they go off us when were are doing less well...so what, we havent lost anything.

I want our club to improve and grow, hand in hand of that will be new fans, glory or otherwise.

f### that. If people have other commitments thats fine - like you say, peoples lives do not revolve around city etc etc. But the rest of what you say is complete bollox. Its the reason why football is how it is today - kids wearing Man U, Chelski or other prem shirts.

The bigger picture is that is DOES damage the club, if all these prem supporting people who are from bristol supported city or rovers, then both clubs would be bigger and who knows, might have a Premier League club in bristol.

You looking at it short term. I'm looking at it long term - at the end of the day, I want city to be sucessful, but if we did go up and did well in the Premier League, i expect there would be a lot of life long city fans missing out, because of glory-hunting b-stards. Why should life-long city fans miss the chance of seeing there club in the top flight?? - most of whom have been probabaly waiting there whole life (some to see again, and some for the first time) and never really expected them to ever get there?!

Great post :clapping:

It does seem that the more success we're getting the more 'I'm a better fan than you' bickering is going on?!

Oh and when I was in Dublin once I bought a Sligo Rovers shirt 'cus I thought it looked good. Give me a map of Ireland and without searching I'd be hard pressed to find Sligo! How part-time/glory hunter is that!!!!??

Its not complete bollox, have you even thought about what you are saying? You are contradicting yourself.

You say in one breath you hate the band wagon glory supporters, then you say above that you want all kid Man U Chelsea fans (who by nature are glory hunters or not that bothered about football) supporting City? Which one is it??

And how exactly are the life long City supporters going to miss out if we make it to the Prem?? They have season tickets, the club also has loyality/priority schemes. And also a plan to move to a new 30,000 seater stadium, so there will be plenty of room. Having said that, if City have supporters like you giving your welcome to potential new fans then we wont have any and our new stadium will be half full of the same old moaning 'supporters' who think they own the club.

We need to welcome new fans, glory or otherwise and help them become loyal

I'm not contradicting myself at all. If kids were brought up to support there local side (as they should) then we would'nt see all these kids wearing man u chelski tops.

Why welcome the glory hunters?? we would fill the ground if we went to the top, no matter what, so why welcome the glory hunters who will f off when we get relegated. surely we should look after the loyal fans, who will pay to see the club in any division we might play??

I welcome new fans of course, but at the same time, i would remind them of where we came from and the glory wont last. I'm not one to judge any new fan, but you cant say 'we should welcome glory hunters' - how would the club benefit?

Do you think Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester Utd. Chelski + many more talk about rubbish like this. All teams want the biggest fan base they can get look at how much they invest to get overseas support and increased sponsorship.

If the club is to move forward it will need another 8,000 regulars by 2012.

We would fill the ground, but they would be new fans, therefore Glory hunters, wouldn't they?!

And now your just repeating what I said mate, I say welcome all new fans, 'glory hunters' is simply a label for how fans start supporting a team, from there they can become life long fans, as I said before you repeated it, by welcoming them.

And is Westy just said, spot on mate, its about growth. We need new fans to be successful or you can Kiss away the Prem.

Come support City, the lot of you, and give us your money!

I started supporting and going to games at the age of 3....not that I remember a lot ! But does this mean if someone in their 30's for example decides to start going to games with a pose to following regularly/maybe even getting a season ticket, should hope we aren't successful at the time - otherewise they may well be seen as a glory hunter ? Everyone starts supporting at some age....do we have to judge at what age its acceptable ?

With the current climate, maybe just maybe we will start seeing fewer and fewer Prem league shirts around the City and more BCFC shirts. Surely these people, whatever age, should be encouraged to join our ranks and turn into loyal supporters like you and I ?

So no one above the age of 14 can become a city fan?

Grow up ffs

how did you get that from what i said? whats age got to do with it? having new fans is a must, but a precentage of new fans that are supporting the club at this moment in time, will only support us when were doing well - that aint support! is it?

make sense yourself before telling me to grow up! ####

Funny how the ones who winge about casual support are the ones that feel the most need to highlight how loyal they (now) are.

People who have been supporters since birth seem not to give a to55. True reds since birth will remember what its like for this club to be in crisis and hanging by a thread for years... so why would they feel threatend by casual/new fans and not embrace it?

It goes to show we are moving in the right direction...splendid! The more the merrier.
