Lee Trundle

Riaz, you're talking shite. You know very well that if Trundle wasn't fit he wouldn't have been picked, and I know he was actually one of the better performers in the fitness tests during the first season.

He didn't play well often but all his good performances bar one came when playing alongside Adebola or Showunmi and the reason for that isn't motivation or fitness it is a very simple and obvious football reason.

Lee Trundle isn't a targetman. We played as though he was. If you didn't notice that from watching the games there isn't much point having this debate with you.

I did watch the games, but our other forwards managed to score goals with the same problems

Perhaps he's resettled there now and is coming into form. What if he scores another couple next week, and a couple more before the end of the month?

8 goals in maybe 11/12 games, it's not impossible - what would City fans think then?

It certainly wouldn't provide ammunition for those that say Trundle's not up to the Championship, more likely perhaps prove that utilised correctly he is, and that City persistently failed to do that.

Hi Noggers, God knows it's not often I disagree with you.....BUT!

I don't disagree for one minute that we haven't used Trunds to the best of his ability, and I can't answer why that has happened, only GJ can do that.

I just think it's time to shake hands, and move on. As someone, on another thread, earlier this week said - the silence from the Swans fans has been deafening, and they've been on a terrific run.

I'd be happy to see Trunds go, and save the reported £10k/wk, but if he's going to stay then I'm also all for him being played to the best of his ability, but I fear it won't happen.

All in all, I'd rather save the money and get a wide left sided player in.

While we're on the subject (which we're quite possibly not!), why not send Sno back to Ajax - saving another possible £10k/wk and get an even better left sided player in. Another player not playing in his best position, why waste the money?

Nothing wrong with disagreeing Woodsy, but as it happens I agree with most of that.

Trunds clearly has no future at AG, as you say only GJ really knows why it didn't work out. I bet the silence from the Swans fans isn't deafening tonight. :chant6ez: As I say, what happens if he goes on a goalscoring run between now and the New Year?

Do we just say, 'great Swansea will take him off our hands now' or do we feel cheated in some way that we feel he wasn't given sufficient opportunity to shine at our club?

My interest is in why it didn't work out here because I believe it could and should have, and as fans we'd have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'd certainly like to see a wide player in, it's vital imo, but I'd hope to see Sno playing in the same team - preferably in his most effective position.

Questions need to be asked if players of the quality of Evander Sno cannot be successfully accommodated in a team at our level in their favoured position in what, after all, is meant to be an entertainment industry.

In his best position he's surely more than good enough for BCFC and as far as I know we're paying his wages until the end of the season whatever.

Can you name one game that Trundle started with Adebola because, even though that should have been the obvious partnership, I can't think of one time it happened.

We've been here already, there were 6 games in 07/08 and 4 more in 08/09, the last of these being a goalless draw at home to Sheffield United.

Here are some more facts; 53 league appearances for us, 28 of those from the bench, 7 goals, (one of those a penalty), plus a ten match loan spell at Leeds which saw him score once (so perhaps he had the wrong partner there, too?).

I can't be arsed to argue any more, but those figures don't show a Championship striker to me.

I'm going to have to stop watching SSN, they've just shown Trundle's goals again.

I could happily watch the first one over and over again - a solo dribble across the defence and a fine finish. A superb goal.

Plus a great turn past the defender to slot home the second from the edge of the box too.

If that's not good enough for the Championship, or Bristol City F.C., then I really don't know what is. :disapointed2se:

Unfortunatly it aint going to happen,Trundle, Noble, Williams etc. Anyone with anykind of individual talent wont get a game in GJ's City.

And people laughed at me yesterday when I suggested we should bring him back and play him.

Johnson's main problem is he really does not know how to play specialist players like Trundle. If you use them correctly then they can be a great asset, However if you don't utilize them properly then what happens is what happened with Trundle and Noble and soon to be Sno.

Gus Hiddink once said, you have 10 field players. Of those, 8 need to be 90 minute work horses, however you will always need 2 game breakers with more talent and a lower work rate. GJ seems to want 10 players who are 90 minute work horses.

Its a horses for courses situation imo, but in most matches I can see the need for a game breaker, starting and finishing

As a swans fan i was unsure whether this was a good move or not but he has proved that in the 6 games hes played hes still 'got it'. His first goal yesterday was one of pure class and i doubt you would see many other strikers doing that (even though the defending was terrible!!). Hes our top goal scorer which says something really. The system we play doesn't suit him but hes a great sub to come on when you're looking for a goal etc. He can change a game with the touches and flicks he has and i honestly wouldn't mind keeping him.

I always thought he should have been given more of a chance. He probably won't want to come back and play for us is the thing. Is he better than Saborio.. I'm not sure. Don't think he'll ever play for us again, but I think he could do a job from the bench and would definitely challenge and create competition for the strikers.

Thing is you can't compare Sabrio or Maynard or Haynes to Trundle because they are different type of players. Trundle is capable of producing moments of magic when it's needed and I think that is what we are missing as we haven't really got anyone to do that but saying that if we did that Johnson wouldn't really give them the freedom to do so anyways.

Trundle does affect games if you play to his strengths. We didn't play to his strengths. And it's got nothing to do with age or speed. Hartley is a similar age and has no speed and yet he must be the best midfielder in the Championship. How he is not in the Premier League is beyond me and how we managed to sign him (thank god) is beyond me.

Best player at City for years

How on earth anyone can think that is beyond me. If he was that good we would have had a s**tload of offers for him when it was clear we didn't want him. He clearly has quality, but he flopped for us, and just because he scored 2 yeasterday it doesn't mean we should bring him back.

Keep your hair on Phil. :shocking:

cityfan doesn't think what you think he's thinking - he's talking about Paul Hartley.

i think he is playing for the shirt that he loves

and it is not bristol city.

I would not have him back

I think he's playing for the shirt he loves too, and for good reason - a successful and happy career at Swansea.

I don't think many City fans have ever had a problem with that - no doubt a successful period at City would have created a similar affection for BCFC.

However if they don't love him back enough to take over his contract he'll no doubt be back at AG whether you like it or not.

Brilliant player in my opinion always has been but his heart will always be with Swansea

Yep, but he was happy to loan his heart to us for a few season's and you never know if things had worked out better Bristol City may have become his second, and equal, love.

A couple of other good efforts from Trunds again yesterday, including hitting the outside of a post.

One reason he may love them so much, apart from the success the club had, is they play football that creates opportunities for him ( or allows him to create chances for himself) in dangerous areas.

In all his time at City there were very few occasions when he missed acceptable chances created by others, as with other strikers we gave him almost no opportunites for 'easy' or ordinary goals and most of those he scored were memorable efforts he made for himself.
