cider head
Sad news, I am shocked, i only recived a donation to the ziderheads forum from him on tuesday 2nd june as many may know he was a very active poster on there. He was stubborn old bugger on ZH (and here) who always stood his ground in a debate about SL or the academy and to be honest i respected that and like his posting style or not a part of zidrheads has died with him. RIP Ashtonyate and my thoughts are with your family and friends.
RedRock
Sad news indeed. Quite often was his lone supporter, particularly on his academy postings!. Will be missed. RIP
cider head
That was him. THIS ISN'T A DIG AT THIS FORUM, but he was banned from this forum so found his way onto our site where he continued to espouse his views on all things Bristol City, and quite often, the Academy. As has been said by Tommy, he was very forthright in his views and certainly never backed down from them. I'm sure that Mike wouldn't mind, but he could be a cantankerous old sod, and we crossed very heated swords often on ZH, but as most Ziderheadonians would agree, in the last few months, he found a very dry sense of humour that certainly had me rolling around at times(Malones You are the Ref topic immediately springs to mind). Whilst I may not speak for all, and would not presume to say so, he will be sorely missed on our little Zh community. Edit - a posthumous question from AY for you all (You are the ref - what do you do...) "Here is one for you Rog Your the ref last minute the attacking sides forward shots from 40 yds its going just under the bar but hits a large bird and goes over what would you do?" Tiz true even old geoff twentyman did not escape the AY roasting of city And even AY had a chuckle at this below.

Eddie Hitler
RIP. A regular on here (till ban) and on Ziderheads where a lot of us found ourseleves agreeing with him in recent months. Would be nice to see a small nod from TTB when it restarts given that he was always on there.
Andy082005
Its easy to forget at times when were on a forum and opinions are being "discussed", that we are all Bristol City fans and want the same thing. success for our beloved club. Whether you agreed with him or not, he was still one of us. RIP

054123
I'm sure there aren't many who haven't had a forum "spat" with AY, but he was never (as far as I saw) personal or aggressive. Always gave his views and stuck by them.

Rest in peace, Mike.
Quite so Jordan. Akira
Terrible news Was always passionate about our club, was city through and through, and whilst not everyone agreed with him, like someone said, he wanted what we all want, and thats the best for Bristol City. F.C. A true red, and will be missed. Rest in Peace AY. Just out of curiousity, why was he banned from here?
054123
Very sad news. A poster who always made me smile with the blinkered thrust of all his posts. I always have a certain respect for someone who has total faith in their convictions and he certainly did. As has been pointed out, despite being a point of 'abuse' (for want of a better word) for some, he rarely, if ever, sunk to just swearing or trading personal insults. Maybe this isn't the place to say it, but quite a few on here could do well to take a leaf out of his book. It isn't about your individual argument or point, but how you present it and how you treat others.

marshy
Very sad news. I was a big fan of his posts and it was a sad loss to this forum when he switched over to Zh, was never quite sure why. As others have said his views always provoked healthy debate and were indicative of his passion for the club.
downendcity
A sad loss. When I read some of the personal insults posted on here these days it is hard to understand why AY was banned. He could be a stubborn whatsit, and manys the time Ive smiled when reading his attempts to defend his argument against overhwhelming odds. The expression " when you are in a hole, stop digging" could have been composed for AY. Despite everything, you knew that he was a passionate and loyal City fan. bristolcitysweden
For the record Ashtonyate was not banned for his opinion or the way he expressed himself. If I remember correctly it was a because of a minor break of the "commercial" rules of the forum. Think he returned for a short while after the ban as well. As for "when you are in a hole, stop digging" Ashtonyate was well before his time and he new that if he continued to dig he would eventually end up in China were the future undoubtly lies RIP
bcfcchris2016
poor old Ashtonyate, used to find his threads quite funny actually. A man who had so much time for our academy But come to think of it. Other than seeing a bit of Christian Ribeiro, The club in the last couple of years haven't seen a lot of players come through the academy really. So it's probabley has cost us more money than gaining recently. But i guess he would of been just as happy as all of us to see Joe Edwards and Bobby Reid get a run-out in his last game. Rednready
Ashton Yate, Bobby Charlton Red Goblin and I , were a minority. Three of us in our 60's and young Gobbers agreed on the Academy. He will be sorely missed ! Its sad when you see older posters nailed to a cross by the younger posters, it was no different on ZH, he was constantly a very vigorous minority, good for him. I'me even older, in failing health so its a real wake up call for me. Ashton Yate stuck to his guns and posted beyond reason to get his point across. I dont have the same patience and dont post much anymore, I cant handle the rudeness and bickering, I guess its the standards of a bygone era. It was good however for Ashton Yate and myself to hang around long enought to participate in the computor age forum. His breed are few. I will miss him and his singular yet strong points of view. RIP AshtonYate. You are well thought of. Rednready.[ 68 ]
