bringbacktherobin Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 While watching the news yesterday, i watched a bit of the interview with you. Can i just point out, WE ARE NOT BRISTOL. We are bristol city, bristol play rugby. You wouldnt say nottingham, or sheffield while mentioning either club.. We are bristol city, NOT BRISTOL.
Guest Tony Montana Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Get a grip ! He's only been here a day !
Spike Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I don't see why people get bent out of shape over this... I mean it's basically a finger up to the Gas when we're referred to as Bristol as it basically means they don't even consider Bristol Rovers big enough to be "Bristol".
Cider Queen Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 No biggy, dont know why people get so hung up over it. There is only One Team In Bristol! If you watch his interview on player he says Bristol City everytime, so he's learning!
Guest Mr Wendall Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Just means Rovers have become insignificant

bcfcchris2016 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Someones desperate for a moan this morning
Robbored Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Someones desperate for a moan this morning I agree with the OP. We are Bristol City not simply 'Bristol'. There have been plenty of threads over the years complaining about commentators on both radio and TV referring to us as 'Bristol'. I'm sure that in McInnes's case he's probably not realised that there is another professional football club in Bristol. No doubt Adam Baker will point that out next time he interviews Delboy and that some fans are sensitive about it.
eskay Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 We are talking about playing Birmingham on Sunday, I think they have a City in the name!
Redhyde Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 You're posting on a forum called one team in bristol... I'm happy that he refers to us as Bristol, i'll be happier when he refers to us as us.
myol'man Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Have never heard the blue few being referred to as 'Bristol' must mean we are seen by the outside world as truly the 'ONE TEAM IN BRISTOL'
Nibor Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 You're posting on a forum called one team in bristol... I'm happy that he refers to us as Bristol, i'll be happier when he refers to us as us. Spot on. It's good to see that most people are only aware of there being one team in Bristol.
22A Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I like to think we'll get more than one point whilst McInnes is Manager!
E.J.Thribb Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Could've been worse, he could've called us the Rovers.......
Red_Mat Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I agree with the OP. We are Bristol City not simply 'Bristol'. If you mean Mangotsfield United, technically they're in South Glos, rather than Bristol and besides they're not professional anyway. I suppose they are our closest rivals when it comes to that level of 'professionalism', though...

We are bristol city, bristol play rugby. You wouldnt say nottingham, or sheffield while mentioning either club.. We are bristol city, NOT BRISTOL. This is pathetic I don't care whether we're calling City, Bristol or Bristol City
Rednready Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 We are talking about playing Birmingham on Sunday, I think they have a City in the name! Exactly and there are other teams with City in their name, or called Robins. Its not an issue, surely . Growing up in the 1940's and 50's, it was the Robins or the Rovers, I never heard the word Gas in those times. The team wearing red in Bristol are my team, I know who they are and anyone else can suit themselves......... being polite .
Donald Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Is there?! Are you sure? I'm not sure who you're referring to. If you mean Mangotsfield United, technically they're in South Glos, rather than Bristol and besides they're not professional anyway. I suppose they are our closest rivals when it comes to that level of 'professionalism', though... clearly means Bristol Manor Farm
Robbored Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I doubt either Sheffield United or Sheffield Utd fans are happy when simply called 'Sheffield' by radio and tv pundits. Could say the same about Man City and Man United but, strangely that doesn't seem to happen with PL clubs.
Sir Colby-Tit Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 We are talking about playing Birmingham on Sunday, I think they have a City in the name! If the other team in Brum was called Birmingham Rovers then I'm sure we would be talking about Birmingham City. The only like for like comparisons are the two Sheffield clubs & the two Manc clubs & I have never heard commentators etc referring to "Sheffield" or "Manchester" And let's not kid ourselves that when we are referred to as "Bristol" it's because anyone thinks the Gas don't exist or are irrelevant - its plain laziness. I don't care if others think it's not worth moaning about - winds me right up
RedRock Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 More than happy with 'Bristol'. The guy's a visionary. Can only be months now until the Sags implode and are no more. Just rubs it in that everyone calls us Bristol as they're now so far off everyone's radar.
exAtyeoMax Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I thought 'Bristol Rovers' was a car showroom
arpaul Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I agree with the OP. We are Bristol City not simply 'Bristol'. No doubt Adam Baker will point that out next time he interviews Delboy and that some fans are sensitive about it. If this is the case, shouldn't you be calling the manager by his full name Derek McInnes and not simply Delboy? And furthermore, should us suppoters refrain from refering to our beloved club as "City"? I personally think "Bristol" has got a certain ring to it, and it must make the blueboys feel unloved and irrelevant!
Sir Colby-Tit Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I personally think "Bristol" has got a certain ring to it, and it must make the blueboys feel unloved and irrelevant! Apart from the fact that the blue few are often referred to as "Bristol" as well.
Robbored Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 If this is the case, shouldn't you be calling the manager by his full name Derek McInnes and not simply Delboy? Its far quicker to type 'Delboy". Its also a nickname which 'Bristol' is not.
arpaul Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Its far quicker to type 'Delboy". Its also a nickname which 'Bristol' is not. (/quote] I think you'll find Bristol is a nickname or pet name? i.e My wife has a fine pair of "Bristols"
arpaul Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Apart from the fact that the blue few are often referred to as "Bristol" as well. This is true Sir Colby-Tit, but as we sit a full division and more (just) above them, I can accept it, after all, every dog (even blue) will have their day....

Aye, I guess I should not let this get to me. It just seems, well, lazy & disrespectful basically.

PFree Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 You're absolutely right, just as I was starting to feel much better after his appointment, he went and made that terrible school boy error..... Surely your next thread must now be "McInnes out...?! :grr: ...one day we'll actually support Bristol city in the true sense of the meaning
havanatopia Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 For me it is mildy aggravating but i am sure he will adjust. In fact he did mention Bristol City later on in the interview so i am guessing Sexstonian crushed Del's right foot with his doc martin stilletto sometime in between.

Colin Sexstone in stillettos Thanks for that mental image
havanatopia Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Colin Sexstone in stillettos Thanks for that mental image yeahhhh.. better believe it Col. Did you not know that Sextonian is only 4' 9" ?
Sir Colby-Tit Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 yeahhhh.. better believe it Col. Did you not know that Sextonian is only 4' 9" ? Wow, that's spooky, because that is EXACTLY the same length as his eyebrows
Robbored Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Wow, that's spooky, because that is EXACTLY the same length as his eyebrows With brows that long you'd think he'd have a comb over.
bringbacktherobin Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Someones desperate for a moan this morning How is it desperate for a moan? You dont hear people going "manchester were great last weekend", "danny wilson is the new manager of sheffield" It doesnt mean there is one club in bristol, rovers get called the same, its just means were still a nothing club in the eyes of many, e.g tv pundits etc.
exAtyeoMax Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 (/quote] I think you'll find Bristol is a nickname or pet name? i.e My wife has a fine pair of "Bristols"
Greedo Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Personally don't really mind either way. Bristol, City or Bristol City. I like the fact that just 'Bristol' implies the Gas don't exist though. I'd be far more annoyed as a R*vers fan hearing us reffered to as 'Bristol' all the time!!
Nibor Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 How is it desperate for a moan? Unbelieveably trivial thing to whinge about. You dont hear people going "manchester were great last weekend", "danny wilson is the new manager of sheffield" Yes you do. Very, very often. It doesnt mean there is one club in bristol, rovers get called the same, its just means were still a nothing club in the eyes of many, e.g tv pundits etc. Sounds like an inferiority complex, the fact that people not from Bristol not fans of the club call us Bristol rather than Bristol City sometimes means absolutely nothing about what they think of us and in any case, who cares if it did?
Sir Colby-Tit Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Trivial or not, I'd hazard a guess that it pisses off at least 50% of City and Rovers fans. (I reckon Glasgow will win the SPL this year)
kevinmabbuttshair Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 No more chants of B-b-r-r-r-i-i-s-s-s-t-t-o-o-l-l-l-l from the east end then

We are bristol city, bristol play rugby. You wouldnt say nottingham, or sheffield while mentioning either club.. We are bristol city, NOT BRISTOL. I think the point is ........we are Bristol City (FC) but Bristol City would be good enough We will not get bent out of shape by being Bristol..... but for reasons stated....... we should make certain that us, our club and manager should refer to us as Bristol City ...... or Bristol City Football Club (FC) Because that is what we are........Rugby is big in the area..... but in the nicest way we need to educate...... but I cannot blame the manager at this point or even over this point at this point if you get meh The premier football club in 'Bristol' and for me the West Country...... and dudes that includes 'Dorset' ....... think catchment ..... is 'Bristol City'
WhistleHappy Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Its far quicker to type 'Delboy". Its also a nickname which 'Bristol' is not. OK its Betty from now on ..... http://youtu.be/1jkKMlZVVz4 WTF does all this 'must'nt forget that City comes after Bristol ' matter? ffs - guess some idiots were confused by the lack of clarity & thought he was talking rugby .. Over to you Bet...
