glynriley
Could we not wear a black armband with a poppy on it? Fifa say they can't change the shirt well this is not the shirt it is an armband. You're a genius !!
Judge Roughneck
The FA blazers can stick out their poppy-adorned chests and say they got their way, while FIFA sniggers behind their hands and says there was nothing in the rules about armbands to begin with, you seeely Eeengerlish deeeekheds. Guest
... and people wonder why the rest of the world think we are arrogant when it comes to football. Point proven. We've just ensured that we'll not get the world cup for another 50 odd years.
Kid in the Riot
EDL have apparently climbed the roof of the FIFA headquarters. Well done you spastic morons, you just made it political. Game set and match FIFA. The poppy has been a symbol for the right wing (particularly media) for a while now to be honest. Look out how the right wing press jumped on this story today... There are many many countries that haven't had it before and FIFA are trying to get around to giving it to them before anyone else gets a look in. China, Australia, Eastern Europe, more middle eastern countries, south american countries and Africa. FIFA see western europe as very much established, so they wont come back here for a very long time.

Correct, wonder if some of the people demanding it still see us as a superpower who can have special exemptions made etc...

Greedo
The poppy has been a symbol for the right wing (particularly media) for a while now to be honest. Look out how the right wing press jumped on this story today... Precisely. The whole saga has all turned into a game of oneupmanship and nationalistic babble. We can remember in other ways without having to say to the rest of the world "ooh look at us, we're wearing a poppy, you're not". The wearing of the poppy has increasingly become "the done thing" with very little meaning behind it. Just look at the politicians wearing them in the commons when at the same time they are committing hundreds of troops to senselss conflicts in the middle-east We always remember but we never learn. Yes, and it was the politicians that sent the boys to their deaths in 14-18 and 39-45 plus every other damn war and continue to do so. The French wear the blue cornflower in honour of their dead so we are not the only ones to remember those who gave their lives for so called freedom. Jordan Tansley
Yes, and it was the politicians that sent the boys to their deaths in 14-18 and 39-45 plus every other damn war and continue to do so. The French wear the blue cornflower in honour of their dead so we are not the only ones to remember those who gave their lives for so called freedom. I'm not sure I understand the tone of this post. Are you hinting that the sacrifice they made to stop arguably the most evil of men and his machine like armies was not worth it? Horrible as it may be, wars are necessary some times. With great wealth and technology comes great responsibility and using our forces to uphold something resembling freedom in the face of oppressive murderers is just that, a responsibility.
