Squad Numbers Announced And...

Don't know about anyone else, but I find the concept of giving the fans a squad number cringeworthy.

Especially when it's number 40

12 was fine because it made sense with being the 12th man etc but just giving a random squad number miles down the list is completely pointless.

I would have preferred neither keeper given the no 1 shirt this season.

With Heaton (92 league appearances) and Gerkin (166 league appearances), two keepers in my view, quite similar in ability should have to fight for first team selection and for the No.1 shirt for next season, with no favouritism, no quirky appearance guarantees and a fair team selection policy based on good form and not necessarily game results. I would hope Nigel Spink is a good man to judge this!

Why?

Derek strikes me as the kind of manager that doesn't care too much about squad numbers.

His formations on paper use names alone, not numbers.

That leaves a lot of fun for Scott and the boys to play around with his old shirt number,

but good news is Yala gets it and Marv gets his 25 back. He was quite good in that one remember, to say the least!
