Makes a lot of senses in many ways. 0nly questions are 1. Is he fit? 2 Can we meet his wage demands? But would generally be happy with this signing.

Not sure about this signing.

As someone mentioned earlier we have probably got him a year or so too late!

Saying that though he is a good player and scores goals, but also has pace to stretch defenses.

I would rather we spent it on a Baldock etc as it would have represented better value for money with DJ being 30 of course. But who knows? Del may have pulled off a cheap deal or perhaps even a loan?

He's not got 15-20 a season since his non league days. The most he has had is 13 and that was with Blackpool in the Prem iirc

13 goals in a team that struggled in the so say best league in world tell me again as I have forgot who was are top scorer last year with how many I have forgotten I'm not having ago I just can't remember I think the natch is getting to me

Pretty clear that we are operating at the cheaper end of the Championship Market and although I can't say his signing would fill me with joy, but for a likely fee of around £500k, I'd guess someone who scored 13 in the Prem in 2010 is a logical acquisition.

They paid 1.2mil a yr ago. Wonder how much theyve accepted from us.

We shouldn't be looking at paying anywhere near that for him.

500k would probably be a good deal. Anymore than that and I would be a little surprised and disappointed.

For me that there are gems in the lower divisions we could get for good value. I wouldn't have minded paying that sort of money for Baldock as he is young, will improve, has re sale value and is what we need.

I think DJ is a good player but he has no re sale and is coming to the end of his career. I would not want to pay over the odds for him and end up having another Stewart or JCR on our hands.

This would be a good signing I think. DJ gets goals and is pacey, it's certainly what our strikeforce needs.

I didn't realise Campbell was 30. He doesn't seem to have been around that long. Maybe he was a latecomer to the pro game. Good signing if we can get him. Showed wherever he's been that he can score goals.

He was a late one, hopefully that means his legs are a couple of years younger!!!!!

Good signing.

Would be ideal, the type of striker we are missing for sure. Quick, plays off the last man, can run the channels and scores goals.

Wouldn't think QPR would want too much of a fee.

Dont think the bristolcitysweden will be happy though!!!

30 years old??? High wages??? For an average player??? no ta

Whats 30 years old got to do with anything ? remember Paul Hartley he was 62 when we signed him ;)

His wages would have to fit in with our wage structure we wouldnt pay him higher wages than anyone else here

I would say above average, always plays well when i've seen him, he chases everything and gets in the defenders faces a nasty player to play against which is what we have been crying out for for a long time..

Sign him up i say

Stunningly average striker, can't believe there's not a better striker available, doesn't say much for our scouting network.

Adam Le Fondre who'll be no more than a bit part player again at Reading, head and shoulders above Campbell, and would score 20 goals a season easy.

Bit of a lone voice with that opinion.

But it's his opinion. So respect it like others respect yours.

That's the trouble on here, posters that aren't everyday posters get flak and abuse if the don't follow the popular people on here.

My opinion is that DJ Campbell would be an ok signing - scores goals if he can stay fit- bit of an attitude definitely, would need to keep that in check for definate - in Baldocks league ? Never.

Wow you clearly haven't grasped the nature of transfers.

reading would want 2 million+ for him, easy.....plus he was scoring for fun in the championship why would he want to come back when he will be playing in the premier league?

Hardly a bit part player either. Completely unrealistic.

Unsure on this one.

Averaged pretty much one in two during time at Blackpool which is outstanding, but you assume he'll be a top earner and anything over a 2 year contract would worry me.

Would be excellent business paying a percentage of his wage on a season long loan, not so sure it's a sound permanent signing, especially with any kind of fee involved.

LT23 MKII IMO.

Edit to include actual words.

I think financially it's like the Trundle deal, i.e. bad. Footballing wise we need pace and goals so it fits, although his appearance record looks really sketchy glancing at it.

Rubbish. He has proven himself at a level Baldock never has.

I'm not a big fan of Campbell but that is just a ridiculous statement.

Campbell has been top scorer for a Prem side within the last two years and consistently scored goals for a number of sides at Championship level.

Trundle had never kicked a ball at this level when we signed him.

There not exactly amazing.

We are so short up front

He has nothing to prove to me and will be a great signing if personal terms can be agreed

It shows the quility we are after

He was great at Blackpool in the prem but we still need creativity and a defender

So jobs not done yet

Good work city it shows we are willing to spend dispite what's been posted on here

Let's keep our finger crossed

Didn't he come into the game late, similar to Ian Wright, so he may well have the 'hunger' to give it everything even into his 30's. Would be a top signing I reckon.

Totally forgot about him coming into the game late. To me that would suggest he would have the hunger to play for as long as he can and give his all every game.

That alone should stop him ending up like the likes of Hunt, Stewart, JCR etc.

Intrigued to no what the fee is. Clearly no mug bagging 13 premier league goals in a struggling Blackpool side.

He also seems to me to have that fire and little bit of nastiness that we have been missing. He will be a pest to championship defenders.

Why are most people acting like he is a bad signing? What we are crying out for is a quick player who can score goals, right? Baldock can do that BUT he is most likely in demand by a lot of, let's say, better clubs. Campbell is only linked with us and Blackpool from what I have heard. So, even though he is 30, he's still quick, has an eye for goal and has experience yet people are still unsure? Yes, if the fee is too high then I'm with you but isn't this the type of player we want? We can't have Stead and Pitman trying to chase down everything because let's face it, they're a tad slow. So having Campbell up front would ease the burden on Stead and Pitman to score loads of goals whilst maybe Campbell actually chasing the ball and getting it.

Cant understand why the moaning look at the stats

192 games as a pro, 57 goals. Not sure on subs app but will be a few. One in three for a strker, not bad?

Pitman 257 games, 79 goals

Stead 326 games, 79 goals

Ryan Taylor, 154 games, 25

Point proved, get on and support the lad!!!!!!

City agreed a fee with West Ham for Baldock.

I believe it when I see it on the OS.

Tbf every football website was reporting on it Ssn got pressured into putting it up

Its true though. I think EVERYONE would rather us spend a little bit on Campbell than have no new striker? Obviously we have to wait for the OS to tell us this is true before we actually get our hopes up but I reckon all we need now is a commanding no-nonsense centre back, but I do reckon he should be from the prem otherwise all the latest strikers down here would tear us apart for the hundredth season running. I wouldn't be too bothered on Buszaky as if he wanted to come he would of already so if I was Del I'd go for another midfielder as Buszaky could have his heart elsewhere.

That's why some people are dismissing him.. They didnt think of him or weren't in the know.. If he wants to come then welcome to the new DJ..

Not many strikers have ever scored 13 in one prem season. Think he would link up well with stead and we have talent in width so if they can tee him up, decent finisher. Get it done.
