I appreciate you wanted us to email suggestions Brian but I'm placing them here so it is accountable to the club if they choose to ignore them. The following players have been suggested following intensive research by a chap called Gashead Wes who has frequently tipped players off to the club with little effort made to follow it up. Wes is so highly thought of Bristol City offered him a job. He is a Gashead however and turned it down. Many of his suggestions have gone on to do fantastic things. Why not have a look at these guys, arrange a trial match and watch them all. Just imagine if even 2 or 3 were good enough !!!!! it would turn us around, make us loads of money and these guys would be desperate to play. If McGhee is not interested in trialing young non league players with potential then you have to ask why you hired him as thats what we have always done well. Wes has a huge database of such players and he is just a young guy passionate about football. The below suggestions are worth following up, it will save you a fortune in time and effort.

Kieffer Moore, 20 year old, striker, Truro City. A 6ft 4in striker formerly playing with Paignton Saints in the South Devon League Division Two. Impressed on trial for Truro City during the 12/13 pre-season scoring against Tiverton Town and Falmouth Town before signing a 1 year contract with Truro. Moore is a real handful - dominant in the air, has good finishing ability, two good feet and also has decent pace. He currently has 5 goals in 14 appearances since making the considerable step up in class from the South Devon League.

Duncan Watmore, 18 year old, right winger (or striker), Altrincham. Watmore is former Manchester United youth team player who has also recently impressed for the Cheshire County side and for his college Cheadle Hulme School. So far during the 12/13 season Watmore has put in a number of eye catching performances in the Conference North and has impressed with his pace, creativity and shooting ability, reportedly attracting the attention of Football League scouts. The son of former FA Chief Executive Ian Watmore. During the 11/12 season in all competitions he made 2 starts (9 sub apps) and scored 1 goal. So far during the 12/13 season he has made 13 starts (7 sub apps) and has scored 6 goals.

Matt Andrew, 23 year old, centre or right midfielder, Bideford. The attacking midfielder joined the club from Launceston and has since gone on to play in 160+ games for Bideford, scoring 40+ goals in the process. During his time at the club he has won the Devon St Luke’s Bowl, the Southern League South and West and the Western League Premier Division. A quality attacking midfielder with pace, two good feet, excellent vision/passing ability and an eye for goal. During the 11/12 season Andrew top scored for the club in the Southern League Div One South & West with 15 goals as Bideford were crowned champions. Back in 2009 his manager Sean Joyce said this about him: "It's worth paying a fiver just to watch him sometimes. He excites me — and I have played League football. At this level you see players who can tackle or head or score goals. But he's got great dribbling ability, he's quick and he can do the lot. You would think he's come down from a higher league but he only came here from Launceston a year ago."

Dan Moody, 21 year old, right or left winger, Guildford City. A signing from Croydon Athletic in 2011. A winger with a real eye for goal - during the 11/12 season he scored 32 goals in the Combined Counties Premier Division to help Guildford City to promotion and subsequently won the Guildford City Supporters Player of the Year. During the 12/13 Southern League Division One Central season he has continued to impress scoring 16 goals in 23 appearances in total so far, with an overall record of 55 goals from 99 appearances for Guildford City.

Mark Ford, 22 year old, striker, Weymouth. During the 11/12 season Ford scored 35 goals in 22 appearances for his old club Blandford United in the Dorset Premier League before his move to Southern League Premier side Weymouth, where he scored 7 goals in 6 starts (8 sub apps), which equates to seven goals in just 691 minutes of first-team football. During the 09/10 season he finished as Dorset Premier League top scorer with 27 goals from 31 starts for Blandford United. During 10/11 he scored 9 goals in 10 appearances for Blandford, and also 5 goals in 7 games for Western League side Gillingham Town. A quick and direct striker who likes to play on the shoulder and has a good finish. Probably the best prospect Weymouth have had since Stuart Beavon. So far during the 12/13 season Ford has scored 15 goals in all competitions.

Ross Allen, 25 year old, striker, Guernsey. Scored 66 goals in just 43 during the 11/12 season. Finished top scorer for the England Amateur team in the UEFA Regions Cup in Croatia, and was also top scorer in Guernsey's FA NLS cup success which sealed their qualification to the UEFA Regions Cup. Has finished Guernsey top scorer and Player of the Year for 3 seasons in a row in their previous guise. He also demonstrated his potential during 11/12 when scored a hat-trick in a pre-season game against a Bristol City U19 Academy side and scored two goals against AFC Wimbledon. He again demonstrated his potential during 12/13 pre-season when he scored a hat-trick against Exeter City. Pacey, direct with a real eye for goal - a player currently playing far below his natural level. So far during the 12/13 season Allen has scored an impressive 23 goals in all competitions.

Danny Denholm, 21 year old, left winger, Forfar Athletic. During 11/12 he was a key player for the Stirling University side that clinched the East of Scotland Premier League and reached the Final of the BUCS Mars Football Championship against the University of Bath played at Selhurst Park. Previously played for Edinburgh City where he scored 2 goals in 7 games during the 09/10 season. A Great Britain Universaties International player during his time at Stirling. Currently has 3 goals in 8 games for Forfar Athletic during 12/13. Superb volley during his time at Edinburgh City

Rhys Turner, 17 year old, right winger/striker, Lancaster City. Came through the successful Myerscough College football programme which has helped produce the likes of Anthony Pilkington (Norwich City) and Danny Hattersley (Stockport County). Turner plays for the Myerscough College Futsal team and played a pivotal role as they were crowned winners of the U18’s National Championship - Turner scored 2 goals in the semi final and 4 goals in the final. He has a good first touch, is quick, has good movement, is composed/confident on the ball and has an eye for goal. Made a number of impressive first team performances for Lancaster in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division One North during 11/12 and Turner will be looking to kick on again in 12/13 and demonstrate his immense potential.

Joe Bunney, 18 year old, striker, Lancaster City. A tall, elegant striker with a good first touch, good movement and an eye for goal. Bunney was selected to play for the England Schools Under 18 Squad after some standout performances for Myerscough College side, ironically picked for the side after his grandfather made his England Schoolboys debut almost 50 years ago to the day in February 1962. He played and scored in February 2012 against a Valencia Under 17 team for the England Schools U18's in a warm up game for the Centenary Shield tournament. The youngster from Manchester has also been an influential member of the Lancaster City first team and scored a number of goals during 11/12. Bunney has also played for the Lancashire Under 18 Representative team and has helped his Myerscough College side into the semi-finals of the English Colleges’ FA Cup after a 7-3 victory over Lancaster and Morecambe - Bunney scored 4 goals. In early 2012 he also impressed Rio Ferdinand enough to be picked to go through to the next round in the 'Nike Football: The Chance' competition:

Ashleigh Artwell, 17 year old, midfielder, John Madejski Academy. Captained his John Madejski school team to no fewer than four trophies during the 11/12 season, which included the National English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) U18 title. Artwell has also won numerous caps for the England Schoolboys and was part of the U18 squad which won the 11/12 Centenary Shield competition. Has been selected as one of just three players who will to represent his country in the Nike Chance Global Final in Barcelona after progressing through trials. The opportunity to take part in the competition came when representatives from the sporting company visited the academy and carried out Speed, Power, Agility, Reaction and Quickness (SPARQ) tests - Artwell was invited to join the Nike Chance programme after matching the scores of Premier League scholars. Following his selection by Nike, Artwell has also been invited to Manchester United for a 3 day trial.

Michael Sweet, 18 year old, striker, Gateshead??? Had a trial a couple of years ago at Carlisle United and more recently during the 11/12 season with Hull City and Bolton Wanderers. Scored 17 goals in 14 games for Gateshead in the Football Conference Youth Alliance South B division during the 11/12 season. Reportedly offered summer trials at both West Ham and QPR.

Sean Geddes, 20 year old, centre midfield, Stourbridge. Created a lot of interest as a 15/16 year old and was reportedly being tracked by the likes of Newcastle and West Brom at the time. Geddes was initially spotted by someone involved with Manchester United, where he was believed to have had a trial, and was subsequently recommended to Walsall who had a 'feeder club' type of link up with United. He impressed progressing through the youth ranks at Walsall and this is what Jimmy Mullen said back in 2009 when Geddes signed a one-year apprenticeship, which was then followed by a two-year professional contract: "We are delighted that Sean sees his future here at Walsall Football Club," explained Saddlers' then boss Mullen. "Sean is a very promising youngster and it is a testament to the work carried out by the likes of Mick Halsall (Head of Youth) and Bill Jones (Youth Liaison Officer) that Sean has made the progress he has. There is a long way to go in his development but he is a real talent and, under the guidance of Mick Halsall, looks set to have a bright future." Geddes has also been recognised at international level when he was called up to a Wales Under 19 training camp. After getting released by Walsall at the end of the 10/11 season Geddes joined Stourbridge and during 11/12 contributed 18 goals in all competitions. Lovely long range effort vs Weymouth:

During 11/12 Pett scored 11 goals in 25 games in the Ryman League Division One North before a move to Ryman Premier side Wealdstone where he is already extremely highly rated.

Sam Wilson, 17 year old, striker, Eastleigh. Former Portsmouth academy player. During his first season at Eastleigh he scored 10 goals for the reserves from 19 starts during the 2010/11 season. During September 2011 he was invited to a trial at Premier League Fulham, and after impressing on an initial week's assessment with the club, was invited back for training the following week. He ended his stay with the Craven Cottage club by scoring twice for their academy side in a 4-1 win over Portsmouth on the morning of his 17th birthday. At a fans forum in February 2012 Eastleigh manager Ian Baird had this to say about the young striker: "Sam Wilson is better than anything that Bournemouth has got [in that age bracket] and not too far away from Southampton, we’re lucky to have him."

Luke Williams, 21 year old, right/left winger, Hayes & Yeading. The former Reading academy player joined H & Y from Hellenic Premier League side Binfield in the summer of 2011 after only signing for Binfield in January 2011 from Hellenic League Division One East side Woodley for whom he scored 13 goals in 16 games. Paul Malone, 20 year old, centre back, Corby Town. A 6ft 1in defender who is quick, good in the air, strong in the tackle and has good positional sense. Malone is also a threat in the opposition box and scored 8 goals in 44 appearances for Corby during 11/12. Named Corby Town captain for the 12/13 season. A highly rated player who should be playing at a higher level.

Lee Potts, 22 year old, left back or left midfield, Grantham Town. Primarily an attacking left back who likes to overlap with good technique, passing and tackling ability. Potts helped Grantham win the 11/12 Northern Premier League Division One South title and his form during the season earned him an end of season trial at Premier League QPR. He is said to have played well and scored a goal during his 85 minutes on the pitch against a strong Tottenham Hotspur side. Potts is fast approaching 150 appearances for the club during his 3 seasons and during the 10/11 season made 48 appearances and scored 8 goals. So far during 11/12 Potts has again been a regular for Grantham making 50 appearances and has chipped in with 7 goals, and was also named in the Northern Premier League Division One South Team Of The Year for his impressive performances.

Jake Hibbs, 16 year old, centre midfield, Mossley. A very promising young midfielder with a big future in the game. Previously on the books of Manchester City, he joined Mossley's youth setup in the close season of 2011, graduating to the first team squad after some eyecatching performances for the Youth team (impressed during FA Youth Cup run) and Reserves that have attracted the attention of Football League scouts. Hibbs has representative honours with the Manchester FA under 18's side despite only being 16 years old. During the 11/12 season Hibbs has scored 1 goal in 17 starts (1 sub app) for the Mossley Youth team and was also named Man of the Match on 7 occasions during that spell. So far during 11/12 Healey has made 2 first team starts (+ 15 sub apps) and has scored 6 goals, plus he also has 20 goals in 23 games for the Reserve/Under 19 team. A talented and highly rated striker who can beat players with ease and has a good finish. Currently being tracked by a number of scouts from the premier league/football league (trialled at Stoke City, Man City and most recently Leeds Utd). Excellent young prospect.

Lewis Sturman, 18 year old, centre back, Boston United. The former Team Anglia GB Under 18 player was released to Boston United Youth Team during the 10/11 season and offered a 2nd Year scholarship with the club for the 11/12 season. The young defender made 44 appearances, scoring 3 goals so far during 11/12 for the Boston reserve and youth teams and also helped the under 18's reach the third round of the FA Youth Cup. Sturman has also impressed for the Norfolk Under 18 Representative team and his performances have attracted the likes of Premier League club Norwich City with the 17-year-old hoping to impress (then manager) Paul Lambert’s side while on a short trial spell with the Canaries. United head of youth Steve Welsh said: “Lewis is a Norfolk lad and has impressed while playing for his county side. Gareth Dean, 22 year old, centre back, Nuneaton Town. During the 09/10 season the 6ft 1in centre back won Managers Player, Players Player, Young Player and Supporters Home and Away Player of the Year. He is strong in the air, brave, good on the deck, has decent pace and is a strong tackler. Dean has played a crucial role in their rise to the Conference Prem and has attracted interest from the football league. A player with potential and enough quality already to make the step up. During the 11/12 season Dean made 39 appearances, scoring 6 goals and was also named man of the match on 5 occasions. During that time Nuneaton have kept 13 clean sheets. Highly rated player.

Wesley York, 18 year old, winger/striker, Nuneaton Town. A 5ft 10in former Nottingham Forest, Derby and Leicester academy player recently signed from East Midlands Counties League side Anstey Nomads and is creating quite a buzz in the local Nuneaton press. The Nuneaton chairman recently said: “His attitude and family support is first class, which makes him the whole package as a player and someone that fits into the requirements of the club.” So far York has set up Nuneatons winner after going on as a sub at Harrogate, scored a brilliant late goal to clinch their victory over Workington, scored one and created the other on his full debut in the Birmingham Senior Cup against holders Sutton Coldfield, and against Corby he lobbed the defender, outpaced him, ran 50 yards, puts over a pin point cross for his team mate to score, next he robs the defender and chips the keeper from 20 yards to score another great goal. During his time as Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido expressed an interest in the player and said in his local press: “The boy is on our radar because he’s got a lot of potential.” During the 11/12 season York made 23 appearances, created 14 assists and scored 5 goals as Nuneaton won promotion to the Conference Prem.

Bit clumbsy sticking it on a public forum? This Wes chap has clearly gone to a lot of trouble to produce it. No stopping someone forwarding this onto City?

The funny thing was that one of the replies was 'how scottish players in the list' and the answer was 1. So perhaps not scots enough for us either.

Still we can use his work and not have to pay him.

I can recommend players who score goals in the Bristol Regional Sunday league but that doesn't mean they will do it in League Two. Mind you the way the Gas are playing they might as well hire the lot they couldn't do much worse.

The thing is the gas did for a while have a penchant for picking up local non league players and eventually selling them on for big money, Paul Randall, Archie Stephens, Gary Penrice, Marcus Stewart and Nigel Martyn off of the top of my head and City seem to have this superior attitude about local amateur players, I know for a fact that many many years ago a certain very young Shaun Taylor whilst playing for either St Blazey or Bideford was highly recommended to BCFC who just ignored it, the tip came from ex pro who had connections with both Bristol clubs they never even got back to him and the rest they say is history, as the next post on the gas forum quite rightly stated you only need to unearth one gem for the process to be worthwhile.

Disagree about Pearson.

and so do I, my point was city and many of it's fans have this superior attitude about non league talent, as I said before whilst we were wasting millions on overpaid journeymen the gas made millions out of bringing in local and non local talent add to my original list Nathan Ellington.

True but I'll never understand how the sags seem to be strapped for the cash especially when in the past they have made a fair bit out of the non league talent or the diamonds they have found (Ellington, Hayles etc.)

Because until they stole the Mem they had no assets, we always either had wealthy benefactors and the asset of AG.

Is there such a player, i for one cannot remember, but then it is me ! :ill:

Sheldon if you can't remember that player does not exist...............................and that is my point, we have missed out big style in the past and as I said wasted millions on journeymen, we really do seem to have a superior attitude to non league players, just read some of the replies.

I forgot about Hayles, all together an impressive list.

Can anyone name the last player BCFC took from the non league and made a huge profit from?.

Not the same as plucking players from Non League I admit but, off the top of my head, didn't we 'discover' both Jim Brennan and Dave Cotterell before selling both for £1 million and £2 million respectively?

Cotterill was an academy player I believe, Brennan could be a fair shout, still meagre pickings in comparison.
