You Used To Be Blue ..

As of last night I'm done with that filthy football club. The Bristol City game (with your chants etc-thank you for that, it won't be forgottwn) and the prospect of a Blue Tuesday 'movement' gave me hope, but seeing the gormless hoardes wearing red last night sickened me, and within me my love for the club broke.

It's history for me now. I can no longer justify anything that the club has become. it's not my club, I'm not interested. Premier league football will be good for the city, but I will have no attachment to them anymore. Reading the messageboards, plenty more feel the same.

Dunno where that leaves me on here. I've enjoyed the banter, but I cannot continue it any longer. Short term Cardiff City are far better than Bristol City, but as a club and set of supporters, you are twice what Cardiff City are.

I hope you appreciate how difficult that last sentence was!

Good luck chaps, and make sure you stand up for your club and defend it's honour better than our spineless support did.

Nothing but respect for you mate. I feel truly sorry for you and all other true supporters of Cardiff City out there.

Wow @ CBL's post, that must have been festering for some time and took some balls to post on here!

Genuine respect and sympathy to you CBL and I totally know where you are coming from. Last night must have been stomach churning if it was the trigger for finally admitting how the changes have affected you.

Good on you!

Whilst CBL is one of the better posters from over the bridge , I find it difficult to have much sympathy. The 'true' Cardiff fans should have been protesting about all the changes at the outset , rather than rolling over and having their tummy's tickled.

I said in an earlier thread, I genuinely couldn't believe the lack of Cardiff protest.

It seems to have been widely accepted, either that or they have a new influx of fans who are making up the numbers.

Cardiff City/Malay FC have had a huge influx of new customers. Its is not so long ago Bristol City's average gate was larger. For these glory hunters the football on the pitch product is all. While the money rolls in, the players and wins follow. Anything is acceptable until the club goes backwards then the voting with feet follows.

They have ten thousand plus who only know plays offs and FA cup finals. hard to compare to bcfc as they are not fans in the sense many here are.

They have a core of about 3k. The glory hunters and younger fans now outnumbered the hardcore. I feel a little sorry for them. The ones that kept the club a float when it was on the breadline years ago have been tossed aside.

I would expect the ones who had been through the very thin cardiff have a different idea of what a club is to those who came aboard from 2002 onwards.

Little respect for the past as they were not there and so it doesnt matter. See the same atituides on here sometimes only there are not ten thousand of them.

Especially when you hear stories of those who want their colours back being threatened by their own fans.

As much as I disagree with it, it seems actions speak louder than words. Will the soul crew try and take their club back? Or has any fight they have been sucked out of them?

It's sad what happened to Cardiff. What they are now is nothing more than Mk dons franchise disaster. I know they didn't move far but changing the very fabric of the club is very similar. If city moved stadium and turn blue or green or whatever, then I would be heartbroken! Ok the new stadium would be ok but not changing the colours and embracing another country and culture. A football club should represent the city they come from and the fans that live there. The prem isn't worth killing a club for. Nowadays football is all about money.

Obviously I'd love to see Bristol City in the top league but where ever they are and how ever good or bad they are, I'll still support them. We as fans don't get anything for how well our team is doing. We'd still have the same jobs and lives no matter where City were. The thing we do have though is a connection and history with our club. If someone killed that or took it away, then for me it would be the end.

It's also sad that we'll never have a derby like the old ninian park days. The stories we tell from those away days are history now. When we beat them or they beat us back then, the gloating rights were deserved and I genuinely felt that I'd just seen and experienced a proper British passionate game of football. Now it feels like we've just lost to another one of those rich plaything clubs that are slowly taking over our game. If we're not careful then soon every week we'd be in a similar stadium watching similar teams with half hearted millionaires running around on the pitch. Remember Murray and Tinnion scoring at Ninian? Or Thorne and Kavanagh scoring past us? It meant something deep down to these players and the fans felt that! That's where the passion is and that's what we love the most about football, that connection.

Bristol gold stars athletic super club FC in the premier league or 116 year old red and white Bristol City in league 1? Easy! Choice 2 every time. We all fell in love with this club at some point and we all know we've never been that great! We're not glory fans, just Bristol City fans. I feel genuinely sorry for the Cardiff fans who have lost that. Have fun in the prem though, let us know if it was worth it.

CBL - respect my friend. I can share your pain.

Had really mixed emotions for the Cardiff of old. Was on the Grange (Town?) End on several occasions and present on the (shameful) night of the Aberfan/Swiss Air disaster chants. Even though you were hated rivals had a respect for you lot. Always found the Welsh to pretty genuine and fair-minded sort. Had a pride in themselves and where they were from. Would stand together as one.

Just can't believe how many of your fellow fans have 'sold out'. If it helps - I don't even think of you as rivals anymore - just another plastic club from anywhere. Wouldn't even hurt if 'Cardiff Reds' did get to the Premiership. A total non-entity for me.

Come over the water and support a real club .. even though we're doomed ... we have a pride and unique identity and as passionate fans as your's once were.

Cardiff City Football Club RIP.

Brilliant post and I 100% agree.. We took a non city fan with us on sat and after the game we got talking about what's happening with Cardiff and he turned to me and said "yeh but if city turned blue and won the league you'd still go" "no way said!!" Your post sums it up for me!

Really sums up modern football went many times to Ninian Park had some great memories even saw Zico playing for Brazil against Wales there and a cracking Jimmy Mann free kick goal ...

Never been to the new ground just not interested saw the last 2 Bristol City matches at Ninian same tension abuse and poor policing, stewards letting Cardiff fans throw alsorts but it had a buzz if its turned into another Reading then you can keep it.

I was always a supporter of the AV project but having been to Lego Land I can't help but feel those who said Ashton Gate was the best option all along were right. The Cardiff City stadium proved to me that modern stadiums are killing football along with many other things. Sure it was a good day but even as we walked to the Cardiff City Stadium we found ourselves reminiscing what was once a far superior away day in terms of a real football fans atmosphere, however with perhaps some other slightly un-savoury elements. It didn't even feel like a local derby to be honest and the atmosphere in the current Ashton Gate is 10x better than it was on Saturday.

Never walk away from your club. Stick with it mate and don’t get too hysterical about the colour because it is skin or fabric deep. It’s what

is inside that count.

The club and its soul were there before the Malaysians arrived and it will be there after they are gone. The fans are the heart and soul of a club NOT the colour of fabric.

The fat cockney in charge at Newcastle renamed the stadium “Sports Direct”. It’s temporary because the name Sports Direct will be gone when the

cockney is gone.

Chelsea will still be around when the Russian is gone.

Man Utd have played in blue and nobody gave a toss.

The Malaysians will not be there forever and your colour will return.

This is straight up. It was worse than the madjeski a support that has lost everything it once had. no soul, no passion and no atmosphere. Thought it would be bad but never expected how far it had all fell.

Total respect for that. I only watched CCFC for a few years in the 60's and I'm upset - you must be gutted. You'll be needed when the Tans have wrecked your club and you need to rebuild from the basement up. That's when the real fans will come forward, as they did at the Gate in 1982.

Agreed, it is a very, very cheap new build of a stadium at that, the flat pack of stadiums

Wow fair play mate! I wonder how many of our fans would do the same if it was the other way round. The lure of plastic premier league status will be too strong for some, especially the younger lot.

A lot of BCFC fans are disillusioned about the money etc in the game and lack of connection with the club but for Cardiff it is 100 times worse.

I suggest you find a local team to support in the conference or something. It will give you your football fix and you will once again see players who play for the love of the game rather then the $$$ and gangsta lifestyle.

I wouldn't support us if we did it. It's who you are as a club that's the most important thing not which league you are in. Obviously we all want our teams to play at the highest level but at what cost. Ninian park was hostile ground that i used to enjoy visiting but what i witnessed saturday shocked me. The real Cardiff City is long gone.

I'm totally genuine.

I've felt disenfranchised all season, but last night it hit me as I looked around at the pigs around the trough of free red 'Cardiff Fire and Passion scarves' I just thought, this is no longer my club, I don't support this club.

It's a strange, slightly liberating feeling. While what I will now compare it to was obviously more important, but it reminds me of when my father died...it was a horrible feeling, but one day I woke up and felt comfortable with it. It's gone, take the memories but you just don't feel the pain, and last night I realised that I just don't feel the passion anymore. (of course, my father meant more to me than my football club by the way!)

I suppose I may change my mind. I won't be a martyr to myself,

Why not become Newport black label?

They're Welsh and close by and not Swansea.

I think you are being a little harsh on the Cardiff fans. Let's be honest, successful teams have a lot of hanger ons who soon disappear when the success dries up. I'm sure you know a hardcore of fans who are as genuine as you.

What is it that's so upsetting you? It surely can't be the change of colour to red. Is it that all the hanger ons aren't respecting your heritage? These things evolve, a few of the hangers on will stick with you come what may. They will pick up the heritage.

I was surprised with all the references to Malaysia in your ground (are you sponsored by Malaysia?). This would upset me if a far-flung country started to take over Ashton Gate (Andorra perhaps). But I'm not sure I'd have the reaction you have above.
