The Frankfurt School again?

And you are incorrect here. The term racist was first used in 1932 (racism in 1936) and is derived from the French word racisme. It was used to describe Nazi theories and replaced the words racialist and racialism which were used since the 1870's.

I'd be interested if you could give me a link for your origin of 'racist'. My Oxford English Dictionary of 1972 (ed. Fowler, who I believe is something of an authority on English usage) has 'racialism' and 'racialist' but not 'racism' or 'racist'. From the Italian 'razza' which is of unknown origin.

And Farage was educated at Dulwich college.

Dulwich college is an independent school, which charges up to £11396 per term (over £33000 per year). Other Old Alleynians include Peter Lilley, Chris Mole, David Ford and John Spellar (all current MPs).

Farage is as much part of the 'educated elite' as any one. Just because he didn't get an offer from Oxford we shouldn't exclude him from the group.

And did you notice the story about his off-shore tax 'mistake'?

Dulwich college is part of 'the eton group' of 12 colleges, so pretty much run along the same lines as RG's hated Eton college and just for good measure in 2003 the group was investigated by the OFT and found guilty of fee fixing, good to see the Old Etonian standards are taught early and at it's core, just to make sure it's pupils receive a proper grounding of how to manipulate the system for wonga.

I was using Robert Miles as a reference, from his 1989 book 'Racism'.

Did you read that thing before linking to it?

Perhaps you did, I don't know. It seemed to be deeply anti-semitic, and was pro-segregation. The author is a holocaust revisionist (by which I mean he denies that the holocaust never happened).

I suspect you picked it because it includes some work on the etymology of the word 'racism'. It credits Magnus Hirshfeld's 1938 book Racism with the invention of the concept. However, I would argue that the concept was in existence well before, and 'racialism' was around in print since the 1870's. Also, Sisley Huddlestone used the word 'racism' in 1932.

Do you know what, we are actually arguing semantics here...this makes me happy.

I read it. Clearly don't agree with the views, but it gave some other thoughts about the terms and dates. Thought I would throw it in there for you guys to debate.

Fair enough.

It's amazing how widely read people on here are.

Well, I do it in the little spare time I have. It's hard work, gets in the way of boozing, bullying a the domestic violence. :)

I guess the vast majority of people don't follow the media's view of what a football supporter should be. From what I can see, a lot of people on here are well read in a variety of areas.

Isn't it a bit irrelevant? Surely "racism" is simply a contraction of "racialism", with exactly the same meaning?

Quick question, say we get our reffy and vote ourselves out of EU, what will happen to the Europeens in England?

Can I suggest myself to remove them by force, i'll do it for free and with pleasure too.

This is the problem and why any reffy vote will be full of shit.

MAKE SURE THE REFFY INCLUDES THE REMOVAL BY FORCE IF NECESSARY OF ALL NON BRITISH FROM THESE SHORES!

Haha, like that will happen..., we cant even boot out a known terrorist, how we gonna boot out ******* Irish and Polish?

So, i hope UKIP will make this happen, if not then I will vote for a party strong enough to do this.

**** you liberal labour *******, this is your fault we are having to take this stance here, if you had the balls to fight for our rights when you signed up for this shit we would not be in this mess.

I want Blair's cabinet to stand trial for their crimes, in a matter of a few years they have destroyed this great country.

\If no party can rectify the problems, then its time we, the people of England removed the government, parliament and its MP's

Our corrupt government is so quick to help Syria overthrow it government and others in the middle East, what right did they have?

Maybe I'll ask help from certain states to help remove our government in time, maybe we do need help, maybe its up to us to bring about change and stop this country becoming an even bigger joke than it is.

Jeez........slaps forehead. What a sad f uck.
