What's Gone Wrong Since The Play-Off Final?

The club have gone backwards both on the pitch and off the pitch since that dreadful day.

The owners and management now tell us we are in transition. The last time I saw this club in transition was when eight players ripped up their contracts and the club went on to be bottom of the football league.

It was at this time when I saw real transition, we had a manager who had passion for the club and more importantly we had players who had passion for the club. Unfortunately we have neither at this moment in time.

People say we have wealthy owners which is probably true, but it does not guarantee success as we are finding out with the club in massive debt.

Commitment and passion from the owners, players, management and supporters will help turn our club around.

We have a businessman in charge of the club and not a football man.

Throw money at it...........it doesn't work. Use plan B...........nope, ain't got one yet.

How about 5 pillars.......? Yep, that sounds like a cute business catchphrase, lets try that.

5 pillocks more like (Lansdown x 2, Burt, O'Driscoll, Pemberton)

The engine driver lost interest in a battle, and us quite frankly, and has other things to play with now, after many promises and poor decisions that has left us on the shelf.

Rudderless and leaderless on and off the pitch.

When we reached the playoff final, who were the other three teams in those play offs?

Palace, Hull & Watford. Notice anything odd about the play offs in May 2013, Three of the teams were Palace, Hull & Watford.

What have they done right that we haven't. Yes Hull having been promoted had parachute payment money for team rebuilding, but Watford & Palace?

Pretty much sums up our board for me in 4 very to the point sentances

London clubs are always able to get the best loan players or young players coming through very helpful in sustaining championship football every season

these clubs have a stven caulker in there team every year maybe 2 or 3 of them

The decline started immediately after the play off final because Johnson despite the boards full support failed to realise that City would be found out the following season if he didn't seriously strengthen the squad over that summer. He failed to do that.

Consequently the well know 'second season' phenomena kicked it and essentially the club have slumped downwards ever since, despite 3 different managers before ODriscoll.

At least now we have a man with a long term plan even if it means pain before gain.

We got rid of Johnson far too early. If there was dressing room unrest he should have been given time to weed them out

Club needs stability, not change managers or shout for managers to be changed every two seconds

The club didn't sack Johnson soon enough ffs!

He should've gone a lot earlier than he did, he failed to improve the squad and push forward even with the wads of cash he had at his disposal.. the dressing room spirit he built was torn down by himself and as a result the football was getting progressively worse.

I agree with most of that Robbored but in the second season we were still in with a shout of the playoffs until the Birmingham and Derby away games late into March, after that it went downhill from there.

Yes, they should have sacked him during his first season as you rightly suggested at the time. We'd be top 4 prem now if they did.........

No they shouldn't have sacked him then. He had a 5 year contract remember?

That said I'm surprised Lansdown Sr didn't see throughout Johnsons limitations earlier than he did and when he did actually sack him the damage was already done.

I'm genuinely staggered that you compare O'Driscoll favourably to Gary Johnson

Long term plan!?

Invented by under-achievers who want to avoid scrutiny.

There is only one kind of plan in football - it's a one year plan. The aim is promotion. The objective to win as many games as possible. Simple.

It's not rocket science.

Football is a sport, not a business.

Some smaller clubs, like Orient and Fleetwood, are showing what passion, team-spirit and big hearts can.

Sadly our club has lost its soul.

This.

For all the long-winded explanations espoused on this forum - six short sentences say it how it is... great post!

Spot on, fans need a well run club with leaders and do`ers; not journeymen with no heart in OUR CLUB.

On BBC Radio Bristol last night......2 quotes made regarding their team's performance....

Gary Johnson....... "No manager is happy with a draw"

Sean O'Driscoll....... "We'd have been delighted with a draw"

That speaks volumes in my book

Johnson seemed happy to draw many home games in his final 2 seasons in charge...
