So, What If We Took The Blue From The Gas...

I understand where people are coming from, however people who keep saying bristol City play in red!...the club are not on about changing the home shirt, that will always be red!! The away shirt is a different kettle of fish, now days it's more aimed at as a fashion item, so I can't see a problem with a blue as long as it had red in the kit. So maybe a kit like rangers with white shorts and red socks. We will still be known as the team that plays in red!!!!!

It's the fact that many people don't like the colour blue on a football shirt. Dark blue looks too much like a rugby shirt and plain blue will be a too dominant colour.

Wouldn't mind blue if it was the trim or very little but the main colour no

Blue is not necessary. The messaage would be " We are the money men, we don't care about your traditions, its cheap, its grubby, but its just business ..."

End of the day that's what it is now! A business! Or a brand! All under one umbrella. So I can see this blue and red kits happening.

I don't think there's any settled tradition when it comes to away kit, which is all we're talking about. And by the way, the thing that buys new players, pays their wages and builds new grounds is all just business as well. We can insist on freezing ourselves in time if it makes us happy but don't be surprised if the rest of football leaves us behind, but then being happy in our mediocrity seems to be one of our main traditions.

It makes perfect sense for the clubs under the Bristol Sport umbrella, both playing at Ashton Gate, to have reversible colour identity to their kits.

As long as our home kit remains Red and the rugby clubs' remains dark blue, what is the problem..?!

I think it would be ok with another colour not white but for example the purple and lime, maybe it would work with dark blue and lime?  Spike :)

It might work as a shirt, but not as the concept that has been floated - i.e. City use Bristol Rugby style shirts for its away strip and vice versa.  I can't imagine Bristol Rugby playing in blue and lime. If Bristol Rugby revert to their traditional dark blue (almost black)and white hoops for its home kit, I'd be happy with this as City's away kit.

The Ajax kit is very similar to the Bristol Rugby kit apart from the lime trim- see below.  Just get the rugby to add a bit of lime to their kit for next season and everyone might be happy?

Yes to confirm thats ALL it is use blue.

There has been a settled tradition. It may not be your tradition but pesky irrational traditions there are. Any City pubs painted blue?

Salami tactics. First the away kit then one day its all just a vulgar brand.

Bristol City FC would not die by avoiding the colour of their rivals. There is a whole spectrum of colours for the money men to get ugly with.

Eh? There have been loads of different colours of away kit, so what is this tradition of away kits? Of course there are no blue coloured City pubs, City's traditional home shirt is red, and I hope and expect it always will be. Nobody is suggesting a change from red, it's only an away shirt - which will be seen by only those that follow City away, an average of say 600 of which many won't really be all that bothered. I really don't think that the club should be held back by a handful progress-adverse luddites, But hey, that seems to be a tradition as well...

I will have an EH with capitals.

So what is this tradition of away kits? They are not blue. BCFC big Chief Les K went down this road before around 90, 91 ... Ish. Knew that really didn't you bit of City history?

It may or may not happen ... So for the progress-adverse luddites how does upholding a tradition hold the team back. Will El Abd turn into a new Barsei through the use of a primary colour?

Could huge untapped revenues streams come pouring in like the rain has been?

Or would the club feel a little more grubby to some due to its great leap forward?

I would think that the idea will be to use the traditions of City and the rugby club to get better commercial/sponsorship deals as well as try and get some football supporters attending rugby games, and some of the rugger-buggers coming to City games. Why not, FFS sake? Even if it's just the chance of a small improvement, why not?

As far as blue goes, I have to 'fess up here - I attended the Coventry game dressed in a blue fleece. Many others wear blue coats, jumpers etc. to games. This doesn't mean I was paying my respects to the dreaded gas, it's just that my fleece is blue.

If SL proposed that we change the traditional home kit from red then I'm with you all the way, but changing the away kit doesn't matter to me at all. We seem to have a major change every few years anyway, so why not the Bristol Rugby shirt with it's very dark navy blue? It's not as though the gas own blue - the sky, sea and all the rest - they're just not significant in any way.

BTW, re your early point on blue painted City pubs please tell me where the purple and lime green one is - I'll try to avoid it...

So no GREAT benefit you could identify ... No "EPL IN TWO WITH CITY IN BLUE"

You didn't answer the last question ... A small improvement could be made by a Football Club showing it is arsed what fans of all its sorts think.

We're not going to agree, but ok, the answer to your last question is that no, I don't think the club would be any grubbier in any way. You wouldn't be happy, but then again I think you seem to be more defined by you hatred of the gas rather than anything positive. Personally I believe we give them too much importance - some even prefer to sing 'stand up if you hate the gas' rather than encourage their own team. In truth they're a fairly small club heading towards an exit from the league. They shouldn't be a benchmark for us if we have any ambition at all. They don't matter.

I do not chortle "stand up ...." I do not hate anybody.

Sending out a City team in blue or the ruggas stripes as YOUR progress would be grubby crass commercialization.

What if the club used it as a third kit and didn't sell it? Would that be classed as commercialisation?
