Puckle_red
I thought it was just me! The suggestion of a Bristol City kit being blue is ridiculous. It would seriously make me question my support of the club if we were to be in blue. Some wouldn't understand this but I'm sure it would lose support from sections of the crowd. This is typical of modern football: Cardiff in Red, Hull Tigers....Bristol City in BLUE!?

Davros
It might work as a shirt, but not as the concept that has been floated - i.e. City use Bristol Rugby style shirts for its away strip and vice versa. I can't imagine Bristol Rugby playing in blue and lime. If Bristol Rugby revert to their traditional dark blue (almost black)and white hoops for its home kit, I'd be happy with this as City's away kit. I think it would work as an Away kit, it would never work as a home kit, the lime green is awesome
Calculus
Just out of interest did anybody boycott the 2000 Auto Windscreen Shield game v Stoke because of our kit having blue in it? I'll bet the answer is a very small number, if anybody.

Yep with blue in our kit we get to the championship and with a real chance of getting to the prem if we keep our red and white we will be in l2. if only we had blue in our kit sooner ey. Sixtyseconds
Out of interest, what's your current stance on the blue goalkeeper kit and the other blues kits in our past? Easy. That it was chosen by some non fan marketing commercials bod who doesn't give a shit and that a good honest John Shaw green might see keepers stopping the ball a damn sight more often. UREDS_91
How about an off blue colour mixed with a tint of red, say purple perhaps. Then combine that with a bit of green, lime is the kind i'm thinking. Then we have the perfect away kit.
Calculus
No, we didn't boycott it, but it did put a downer on the day My day went down watching Louis arguing with the ref while Stoke were scoring the winner. Didn't like the kit TBH but it was more the calf-sh1t yellow that got me rather than the blue. (And all this on top of me winding up paying for wife, daughter and in-laws in the Olympic Gallery just because they wanted a day out. My mother in law even took her bl00dy knitting. I tell ye, it was very very bad day!)

pongo88
There are massive assertions being made there. Is it only the colour blue which has these magical properties, or are there alternatives?Blue had no magical properties and neither has red based on City's history. This all started with a , possibly throw- away, comment made by Steve L. If, and this is a big " if", he was serious it's because he believes marketing City and rugby in some combined form will generate more income. No big problem for me but it is a problem for others. It's a good job people have different views or the forum would be pretty dull
Puckle_red
Out of interest, what's your current stance on the blue goalkeeper kit and the other blues kits in our past? I was disgusted when I first saw it (i think it was last season) plenty of mates pointed it out too but no goalkeeper kit resembles the team/club as a whole. I'd still much rather seen the GK in Green or Yellow. The cup final kit was a joke but I was too young to do anything about that, thankfully it was only used once. But a blue away kit for the entire season just to fit in with the Rugby club and the 'BRAND' makes me sick. City play in Red and White, Red home, White away should be the standard maybe some imagination with a retro design wouldn't go amiss?
Fiale
It doesn't bother me, the away kits has been just about every colour under the sun, why cry if it's blue as opposed to yellow, purple, black, white etc in the past. If we played in something like the rugby clubs kit away, now problem here - if the rubgy clubs away kit became red and white would they all start crying to ? You have claimed those that do not like a colour, and do nkt want an FC prostituting everything are luddites and will hold the club back. So this colour blue MUST have powers according to yourself to increase the clubs finances, reach and success that traditional red does not. Ludicrous! Steve Lansdowo remark is obviously related to core aspects of the FC being put under the control of an external body. It is clear that the clubs identity could be weakened, and there are consequences for many fans which can be negative. Many do not share your view that all forms of commercialism are good and anything else is bad. You appear to be incapable of sharing that view. Fan centred commercialism involving fans in those core aspects of an FC e.g identity and its associated merchandising activities can also being progressive. Fan centred commercialism involving fans in those core aspects of an FC e.g identity and its associated merchandising activities can also being progressive. Before you launch into tirades, it would help if you actually read what I said: 1) I have never used the word "Luddite" 2) I have never said that blue is an important issue. What I actually said was was related to Steve L's possible view ....."if marketing City and Rugby in some form will generate more income.... " If Bristol Rugby played in green, pink, purple etc the same would apply. 3) I have never said that ALL forms of commercialism are good and everything else is bad. I was specifically talking about away shirt colours and in very general terms about maximising the club income through commercial means. This does not mean that I would approve of all forms of commercialism. Some would be acceptable and some would be beyond the pale 4) As for me being incapable of sharing others' views, well I sorry but that is ridiculous. I said "It's a good job that people have different views or the forum would be pretty dull"
Cowshed
Pongo you agreed with fans being tagged progress adverse luddites. You proceeded then to articulate that view further. No tirade. Thinking a tradition are significant parts of a club will hardly hold it back. Altering a clubs tradition to mere product can. If you fail to understand that you have warped view of this club. You may feel that quaint traditions are needless but to others they are of importance. They are part of the fabric of why we attend.

No one is talking about changing our home colours, but our away strip (which has never been red so what are you on about). How will having a dark blue away kit be any worse than a yellow, purple, beige, lime green, or striped black and green. All those colors and kits are really love it or hate and would have impacted sales, I doubt a dark blue away kit would be a any worse seller than lime green. Having a Bristol blue away kit to correspond with the rugby playing at the gate wouldn't bother me, if its good for marketing and means our finances improve then who cares. Its not like we would start playing at home with blue and white quarters isit. I believe the ruggers are contemplating a red kit? And as others have said if man you can play in a blue away kit, considering their bitter rivalry with city, I fail to see why we cant!
