...
Being the most successful club in the history means: 'we have been competitive in divisions 3 and 4'. I want City to be competitive in divisions 1 and 2. TFR
Monkeh
I'd like to win every cup we enter to be honest, whether that be the gloucester cup or the champions league, theres no point in entering if you are not trying to win it

22A
Can we get back in the Anglo Scottish or Anglo Italian....? Or even the Welsh cup? City stopped playing in the Welsh Cup on principle. UEFA decided the winners could compete in Europe, so the Welsh FA decided only a Welsh club could represent Wales in Europe. (Yet Cardiff wanted to play in Europe if they had beaten Pompey in our final a few years ago). Some English clubs do still compete in the Welsh Cup and 20 - 30 years ago Shrewsbury played Hereford in the Final. As a result one of the beaten semi finalists progressed to European competition the following season simply because they were the highest finishing Welsh club. The Anglo - Scottish preliminary round was done on a pool stage so offered pre season competition. One year City were away to Fulham and home to Norwich with the winners progressing to the knockout stage. Some of the encounters were quite feisty; City lost 2-0 at Hearts with two players sent off, but we progressed to the next round by winning the return leg convincingly. Most embarrassing was home to Partick. Two dozen of their fans flew down for that game and at one stage you could distinctly hear "Bristol, Bristol give us a song". For you young 'uns, the Watney Cup was for the two highest scoring teams from each of the four divisions who had failed to win promotion or qualify for Europe and was a pre season tournament. Round 1 the 4th div clubs were home to the 2nd div whilst the 3rd div clubs were home to the 1st div teams. The first year's final was WBA v Colchester. Because replays were impractical with three rounds in eight days, that saw the introduction of the penalty shoot out. 1973 City & Rovers both qualified and both reached the semi finals with City losing to Stoke whilst wearing yellow shirts. The then Chairman assured us fans that City would never wear yellow again. (What did we wear at Wembley when playing Stoke in the LDV Final)? The Anglo Italian was played in several formats over the years. Last time City were in a pool with Watford & Luton with the winners going to the 2nd stage. City played two Italian clubs at home and two away. They lost the first three, but drew the last at Cremense on a wet mid week afternoon. Despite some City fans going, the attendance was just 535 (Yes just three digits)! Cremenese went on the final and brought 1,000 fans to Britain for it. Mahatma Coate
City lost 2-0 at Hearts with two players sent off, but we progressed to the next round by winning the return leg convincingly. It was 1-1 at Hibs, Cormack and Hunter were sent off, we won the second leg 5-3. The Hearts game was the year before, we lost 2-0 at Tynecastle and won 3-0 at home, don't think anyone was sent off.
