Observations From The Past Few Days...

Here are just a few talking points I picked up over the past few days...

1. On BBC1 during the West Ham game, it was mentioned that more Liverpool shirts are sold in Bristol than are sold in Liverpool. WTF?

2. Jamie Redknapp tonight said words to the effect of "Balotelli couldn't quite produce that moment of magic..." Er, when does he ever?

3. Why the hell are United selling Darren Fletcher? Surely he's one of their best players.

4. Er, that's it. Sorry they're not very City related.

1. Not more in total......just more shirts sold in sports direct shops. That's because the vast majority of scousers in Liverpool will buy direct from the club.....still a pretty poor stat.

Oh yeah, that was it. I was in a pub today and at least three guys were going mental because Liverpool were losing.

Oh yeah, the other topic was Dennis Wise's new hair.

City don't sell our shirts in Sports Direct AFAIK so it's not really a surprise. :dunno:

5, Ballotelli is absolutely hopeless.

The stat was purely about more Liverpool shirts bought through sports direct shops in Bristol than Liverpool.......it wasn't a comparison on City shirts sold

5. Totally agree

Apparently if you are already falling down and get touched it's still a penalty. All the 'experts' say so.

Think I'm nearly done with top flight football.

The term I hear increasingly at the moment that I detest is 'he was entitled to go down'. That's 'dive' then.

I'd like to see all penalty claims go to a video ref with frame by frame analysis. If there is any evidence that a player starts to go to ground before contact is made, no penalty in any circumstances.

I have mixed feelings about that one. I was watching Eredivisie highlights yesterday (I forget which teams were playing) and a defender came flying in two-footed, missed him but required the attacking player to take evasive action to get of the way. Now he did it in a theatrical manner and therefore got a yellow card, but there's no way he could have retained the ball given how the defender 'attacked' him and if he'd stood there and taken the tackle he might not have his full compliment of legs any more. So you end up with a situation where in order to win a penalty you have to have your leg broken

Obviously that's a very specific scenario and most of them are just diving bastards, but there is a grey area

Would you have Balotelli at City? I wouldn't.

Which Balotelli, the player he's become or the quality player he was when he joined Man City. If someone got him back on track and back to the player he was 4-5 years ago, he would be an asset to any side. Sadly he looks like he doesn't give a crap anymore and is there for the money.

I think the problem here is Ref's not giving penalties for players trying to stay on their feet. Players feel the need to go to ground when fouled because they get no 'reward' for trying to play on.

1) This is because neither bristol team has been successful enough in what I would call the commercialised era of football to entice the armchair glory hunter fans. I'd contend that were replica shirts available during our short stay in the premier league, the sales in Bristol would have been greater than those of Liverpool shirts. Alas times change, mass commercialisation occurs and we slowly dwindle down the leagues.

2) There's only one guy who can get Balotelli to work and that's mancini. Rodgers was arrogant to think he could change him and succeed where others had failed.

3) Darren Fletcher is crap!
