Clough Sacked

Yet again you've clicked on a subject that either bores you or you don't care about.  When will you learn?

Learn what?

I already know that some threads are boring and therefore dull and this one is a good example.

So the Blades sack Clough, so what? They're not even our league next season.

This is a regular sacking time of the year and there will be loads more sackings before the new season starts.

Yup.. Not surprised in the slightest. Nice bloke i am sure, although no source for that, but he seems to bottle the final hurdle. Bit like doing the Chair at Aintree the first time round but cannot quite make it on the final round. :)

He could do worse than start a consultancy business with Danny Wilson specialising in overcoming that final hurdle.

Takes over when they were on a huge downward spiral - and in the following season takes them to the FA Cup semis and play offs.

They would've been nailed on autos next season with him there IMO - who are they expecting to get in that can do better?

They were apparently nailed on for automatic this year, but despite having one of the biggest budgets (bolstered by the cup runs, which he did undoubtably well on getting tbf) they faltered, then failed (again) in the playoffs.

He'll get another job, he's done enough to be a decent bet, but think ones like the Chesterfield gig would have suited him. And if Saunders can get work with his record, God knows Clough should with his own.

I think Clough has been a victim of how well he did in the second half of the 2013/2014 season when he came in, turned the club's form around and got them into the cup semi-final.  Expectations last season were they'd walk the division and it isn't that simple.  People say Sheffield United should be doing better but you look at where they were under David Weir before he came in and realise they could be doing a lot worse too.

I can't comment on the football (bar that although I didn't actually see either of City's games against them this season, I've watched them live twice (once in the cup semi-final and once v QPR in the FA Cup) and the football was certainly appealing to watch on both those occasions.  But certainly I think, whilst they've not done as well as they would have wanted, the result don't seem to me to be enough to justify sacking the manager over.  Obviously it's never possible to know for sure whether it's better to stick with what you have or try out someone else in the hope they'll be better but most of the favourites named so far (with the exception of Nigel Adkins) seem equal to or worse than Clough on paper and certainly if Darren Ferguson really is the favourite, I wonder if they've made the wrong decision not sticking with what they have...

don't rate clough as a manager tbh, he should of got united up with what was available to him, and as some one said ealier his style reminded me of Danny Wilson,

I doubt he'll get another chance at a big club and will find himelf in league one/two at some point next season,

Sheff U will go for a big name to apease their fans,

I can understand the sacking if, as they say, the brand of football was questionable at best - though given his dad's adamancy that the game should be played "beautifully", I don't get why Clough Jr would be a hoofball merchant.

Additionally, who do they think they're going to get in? The longer a club spends in the lower two leagues, the harder it becomes to attract those quality players and escape back to the Championship.

He has put together at Sheffield United a squad of decent players that motivate themselves for the big games but a squad that he cannot motivate to do well in the bread and butter games that you need to win to go for promotion. I've consistently said that all season and the comparisons to Wilson are fair.

Not surprised- Driving back from Chesterfield listening to the local radio phone in, the fans wanted to see him sacked even if he managed to get them up through the play-offs.

The style of play was the main thing with many callers saying that it was the worst brand of football they had ever seen at the club.

Obviously too young to remember the vile hoofball they used to play

Ah, the pedant in me just can't let this one go....

I am sure you know really and just were fishing for an idiot like me to bite (even though it's taken me nigh on 3 days to do so) but The Chair is only ever jumped once, as is the Water Jump. They're omitted on the second lap.

If you had said Beecher's on the other hand, we would have been fine, and I would not have been required to make such a spectacle of myself!

The Chair is only once and Beecher's is twice? Stand correct if so then squire, much obliged to you. :)
