Who Has The Football Leagues Worst Ground ?

The Ricoh is dreadful despite always winning there. As is the Madjeski.

I love the older grounds, Ninian Park was decent, Brentford still is good. The old Millmoor ground at Rotherham was something else, train wreckage site behind the away end in roughly 2003? Awful place.

You've obviously never been to Alfreton!

I thought we were discussing league teams!

Take away my dislike for the blue few in all honesty you have the worst ground in the league, it does even feel or look like an old fashion football ground because its a bit of dump old amateur rugby ground.

If its "had" then Oxford's old Manor Ground, Reading's Elm Park (where I seem to remember on one visit, the terraces crumbling and being lobbed towards the enclosure in which my mates and I were standing) and Walsall's Fellows Park were all very primitive - not dissimilar to Swindon's County Ground today.

You mean the game where city fans literally ripped up the concrete terracing bad threw them at everything and one, the game was stopped and eventually police regained order, then the final whistle went and everything in reading not nailed down was nicked, smashed or set on fire!!!!

Never did like us much after did they.......

Love St James' Park. But at least they can sort out a train station for fans. Take note Ashton Holt! I can remember being on the train from Exeter Central out to Exmouth about 10 years ago when Exeter played Man U in the FA Cup. Crazy!

Been on that service many times, for Exeter City and Exeter Chiefs games - sardines spring to mind

Too many miserable grounds over the years: Elm Park, Manor Ground, Saltergate, Old Den, Springfield Park to name a few. But Newport is top of the "had" list. As for "has"? Not been to many bad places in these sanitised post-Italia90/Premier League/Euro96 times, but unless Layer Road has been redeveloped, possibly there.

Peterborough, ayerome park, fleetwood, blackpool, Oldham, Stockport, Malaysia dome (soulesss isn't the word), Vetch Field (fun times), east vile, twerton Park, the mininimal, Oxford, Carlisle, gay meadow, Cambridge, Yeovil, bramhall Lane, Gresty road, Wrexham (that accent), Newport both new and somerton park, port vale, goldstone ground, Falmer, orient, colhester, gillingham, meadow lane and for obvious reasons Millwall!

That's the one. Didn't TC leave the bench and go stand with the fans on the terrace in an attempt to regain order? My mates and I were stood amongst the home supporters in the enclosure minding our own business when we suddenly became victims of "friendly fire".

I honestly don't think The Mem is too bad, it just looks a bit odd!

If my memory serves me correct, none of the City fans in the home enclosure (to the left of the City fans) were 'minding their own business'!!

Carnage doesn't cover it. An old mate of mine had a scrap book of that day with a picture of himself being dragged across the pitch by the OB from several newspapers.

Somerton Park.. i forgot about that place.. now that truly was a dump but Brighton's oldun post Goldstone and pre Amex was still the worst. It had about 1 and a half stands, no roof save for a bus stop sized one for the 4 exec seats and a completely open end. Shocking. I blame it on that fat bloke who had two jags and pretended to be a socialist.

Luton! The ground makes no sense!

Shockingly claustrophobic

But beautiful none the less. Oh for the old days.

The Battle of Elm Park - I remember it well, particularly City fans walking into a supermarket and helping themselves to all the booze. Didn't even bother taking it out of the shop, just sat around opening tinnies and knocking them back. I got chased by Reading's mob all the back to the coach station, never ran so fast in my life!

The Den,Cold Blow Lane, those two names say it all really.

Although some of the old grounds were rubbish, at least they had good names. Far better than the Amex Stadium, the Madejski Stadium etc. The best name for a ground is the home of Lewes FC - The Dripping Pan (I know it's non league)

I think Home Park should get a mention, the old version, totally grim place, always seemed dark to me,new version ain't much better.

I'd forgotten about Home Park. The "toilets" never had lights and always had an inch-deep puddle. Haven't been there since they redeveloped it.

Read most of this thread but I must say, give me a Layer Road any day over a soul-less new ground.

Loved going to proper, yet quite rundown grounds.

Proper football at proper grounds with proper fans cheering on their local team.

Colchester, Brentford, Aldershot, Orient fans all have my respect for the west they got behind their teams at rundown grounds when I've been there watching our chaps.

Love the old decrepit grounds!

I wouldn't describe Brentford as decrepit, best away end in the league!

I remember people urinating on the terrace at Somerton Park. Awful place Newport. Honourable mentions Aldershot, Northampton's half a cricket pitch ground. Huddersfield's old stadium remember some old boy setting fire to himself and about six seats there. Oxfords old claustrophobic rabbit hutch called the Manor I think. Millwall was always a stealth mission that was not helped by open crumbling terraces that supplied endless ammunition for the home fans. Last but not least Elm Park Reading rained every time I went there and it was cold with gestapo trained police. many more spring to mind. Hartlepool, Crewe, Old Stamford Bridge at Chelsea. County Ground Swindon. Chesters old ground. So many.

Depends how long ago you're talking about....

Not been in a little while I must admit. For a couple of seasons they moved away fans to the open terrace end which felt like robbery, but it reverted to the two tier end which is magnificent for support. They may have changed again, but I wouldn't be aware of it if they have.
