Think the next two qualifiers could be really interesting, players now playing for their places in France.

With Rooney absent opens up a spot for a striker too who I hope goes to Jamie Vardy after his magnificent start to the season.

Anyone who likes a flutter -2 at 7/5 looks a steal tonight!!

Not sure I view 2 dead rubber qualifiers in quite the same light.  I understand your comment, though.

-2 does look like a steal, very attacking line up.

Only niggle is putting Hart and Milner in for these two dead rubbers. We know what they offer maybe Shelvey and Butland for experience?

agreed. I just don't get it?? What happens if Hart gets injured on the eve of the Euros? What then? Bring David James back for his experience??!!

Is it terrible that I no longer give a monkeys about the national team?  And I wish that band would just do one?

completely with you there. I wonder if Rooney is half the problem. Seems to me to be a fading star that's definitely burnt its brightest. And no number of goals against a third rate eastern bloc team will convince me otherwise.

I think just stopping watching would be best, just so difficult to break the habit!

Not terrible.  I am much the same.  I will watch if I am about (presently have the game on in the background as I work) but not arsed if I miss them now.  Never want us to lose, just don't care when we do.  Algeria in 2010 was probably my tipping point.

try and watch it for what we are, a middle of the road international team.

When we do well you'll enjoy it more, when we lose it won't come as a surprise.

and to be fair Bobby Charlton scored loads against absolute mess nations, goalies without cloves, players smoking etc.

I dread to think what the quality of goalkeepers must've been like without cloves. Their ham must have tasted so bland.

Exactly, it seems like some actually prefer to criticise our national team than support - probably a bit like City and football in general. Besides, our national team isn't THAT bad. They've had a great 12 months in fairness.

Well we ain't lost ... Not sure what more we could have done.

im going to France to support my country in the sun, win or lose will be a laugh. You chaps just watch it on tele and moan how bad it is on the Internet.

Ill always be England.

because they've beaten everyone they've played they are any of the following:

adequate, standard, par, acceptable

beating the shower of shit that's been put in front of them is not 'great'.

You go to France and have fun. I'm sure you will and I hope that you do, but history tells me that you'll watch England fail to perform. And yes, I'll sit here on the internet whinging about it, so we'll all be happy.

Been the better side and I am sure they will now go on to win comfortably, but so poor with the final ball until the goal. Sterling particularly seems to have been constantly getting in to decent positions and then not finding an England player. If I squint and look at a certain angle, it could almost be Junior Bent...

No I support both and when critisisms are valid they need to be aired.  The prem has stuffed England and our summer transfer window has screwed us.  And yes I preferred it last season when we were winning, made a change!

Of course, I've criticised City heavily this summer and particularly the transfer window. My point was at a minority of people who seem to prefer to moan than support. The majority prefer us winning but will point out valid flaws which is fine and useful.

cheers mate!

England only fail to perform if you expect them to do well. I don't expect them to be at the top table, we don't have the manager/players/team to win. I know that.

did Northern Ireland fans stop watching their team for 30 years because they never qualified? If anything it made them more passionate!

im an advocate of "support your local team" and I'm an advocate of support your nation ;)

you make it sound easy though but it isn't. Every tournament I naively think, if we click then this could be our tournament and I'll continue to do that until the end of my days.

Its a little like every Saturday when I think 'we're due a win'. Or when we go 2-0 down and I think 'there could be a way back into this'. But there seldom is. I'm an eternal optimist and losing hurts!!!

I think we agree to be honest :)  it's my issue that England no longer does it for me, I just hate the Prem and hence that has a little bit of osmosis towards the national team.

last season I went to city expecting a win and they gave me it (crazy shot I know) this season I realise a prenotion means much tougher opposition :) football is a fluid motion. some times it's great, sometimes it ain't and whether you like it or not it's an entertainment business. if it doesn't entertain you do something else, you only get a certain amount of leisure time - don't waste it.

Glad when this campaign is over, so boring. At least we can then concentrate on embarrassing ourselves yet again in a major tournament under this clueless old fool.

Yep. We`ll be seeded, end up in a group with Wales, Belgium and Russia, only have to win one and draw the other two to qualify, draw all three and go home.

If just like to point out Fordy that on the whole I find you a very credible and like minded poster.

thanks mate and likewise.

I can understand your frustrations with me on this. I've created it myself by commenting on a thread I have little interest in. Truth be told I only had the game on because the wife is out. Reading my comments back its scarily like sitting next to my dad while watching football - scarily negative and frustrating - but on the England front I can't help it. History has done it to me!

have a day off

That game was very boring though! We didn't even need a result really!!!  Nice to see some young lads get a run in the team however. Looked tidy even if it was against Estonial!!

Would be nice to beat Lithuania and get the perfect ten. Apparently we`d only be the 5th country to do it.

The downside to qualifying is now we get to see the media spending the next six months building us up before using the last month before the Euros kick off digging as much dirt on the players as they can find/make up to ensure they aren`t concentrating fully and fail. The press then get what they want, lots of `England are rubbish` ` they should have had xxxxx in the squad` stories ad infinitum.

I`m just waiting for them to find someone who went to school with Harry Kane and hasn`t paid his council tax or something and then starts whining that `millionaire Harry left me homeless` and holding up an eviction notice.

Got to admit never been a fan of Coleman but he has done a fantastic job for Wales especially under the extremely sad circumstances. I know because of rivalry I should dislike Wales but somehow I find myself feeling really pleased for them. Maybe because of Gary Speed. He left a legacy that Coleman has carried on. So happy for his family but by no means am I trying to take anything away from the job Coleman has done. Maybe he is just one of those managers who is better suited to international management?

Also really pleased to have most of the UK reach the finals.

It wasn't all that long ago we failed to reach the euros so I'm a little surprised people have been dismissive of our 100% record and our chances going into the tournament.

Also hoping Ireland join the party. Although slightly wary of the carnage that may cause in France. Probs best off that the scots ain't coming. It's going to be a great tournament. Stadiums packed with England fans. The chance of possibly playing another home nation and with a England side that is performing really well. We have some good young players and some experienced players that should be at the top of their game next summer so feeling quietly confident of doing OK. Well until we meet Germany or bloody Italy.

Enjoying this game

yes it's boring and shit, but quite good to see a young team with no superstars playing the ball around

also a good old school England support in the ground

Toilet roll on the pitch and no flaming band, much better. Shame about the plastic pitch and opposition.

And no daft band either!

do you reckon we could petition the FA to ban them?  Watching tonight's game really is so much better than the last, I'm enjoying it rather than mumbling like an old git.  I think maybe my negativeness may be related to the music and not the football .....

Just checked the 'No. 10' petition website, only need one person with 5 backers (and then the small matter of 10,000 signatories) to get a Government response or a House of Commons debate.  Would need 5 e-mail addresses apparently, all kept private and secure by the looks of it.

i can't be the only one that it cheeses off and I can't imagine the players are that enamoured either. A way to while away the winter months too, suggestions for wording please.

Ban the band!
