According to ITV West Country Cotts sacked by phone

Lots of people get sacked by phone...but it's wrong absolutely. I was fired by phone agency once ringing me when I was still actually working for them, very cynical...still doing work yet rang while I was still on shift and phone was off...the line manager at the place seemed pompous anyway and an ass, so easy come easy go. I passed him in town over Christmas but it wasn't worth it.

But Cotterill being fired by phone given what he has done for the club...is terrible.

Steve Cotterill was undoubtedly treated badly and obviously did not see what was coming.  His last interview was screened in the afternoon yesterday when he was fairly pumped up - and his departure was announced also yesterday afternoon not long after.  I noticed that the 'relieved of his duties' article on the website which first appeared approx 4pm YESTERDAY was the retimed then to this morning which I am sure was a deliberate re-post for historical 'timing' posterity.

The poor  and 'loaded' tribute by the faceless chairman "Steve did keep us in the division and went on, in conjunction with the rest of the organisation, to deliver a League One championship and Johnstone's Paint Trophy. That season will live in the memory for a long time."

In short this mysterious chairman should be ejected as unprofessional, uncommunicative, and downright shifty.

I probably posted this in the wrong thread earlier - more fitting here

I'm pretty sure Derek Mcinnis was sacked via telephone call too from memory.

Very spineless. The decision was reached in board meeting yesterday lunchtime so why allow him to do a press conference the next day knowing that you were going to sack him via phone later that same day.

I know for a fact that Keith Millen was sacked by telephone so there is previous

So based on the above Millen, McInnes and Cotterill all sacked by phone. Not sure what SOD did to get the personal treatment but this is appalling by any standards.

Combined with the use of the term "organisation" my view of the board is very low at present. If the manager signing does not live up to the "premier league aspiration" statement then they will loose all credibility in my eyes.

Watching 'Subs Bench'

Richard Latham spoken to Steve Cotterill today and stated SC was told of his sacking by PHONE CALL by Keith Dawe

Thought SC had run out of ideas and looked broken but .........

Disgraceful , truly disgraceful

Did Latham say whether SC was upset about being sacked over the phone?

If Dawe and SC are still buddies then it could easily have been done amicably over the phone with a view to meeting up shortly for a pint or whatever.

people getting outraged without knowing the full story.

As Robbored points out plenty of examples of managers who find out they've been sacked by reading the back page of the paper - now that is classless!

I suspect SC and Dawe are not exactly buddies anymore.

You know it's a clear sign of cowardice.  Just because there are worse examples doesn't mean this is acceptable.  Whatever ones view he deserved an up front conversation.  He'd clearly chucked his heart and soul into this job, achieved a huge amount and his treatment only reflects badly on those in charge.

It's all just stories and the same candidates having a pop at the board.

IM sure the truth will come out officially soon, until then let's stop muddying the waters of truth with what sounds like complete BS IMHO of course.

Personally I'll keep saying as much as I can from what I know thanks. There's enough people with the daggers out for SC not knowing what they're on about as it is.

To be fair to Dawe, I don't know this for a fact but I'd bet good money he never uttered those words. I can guess who did.

who is that then?

I'm sorry to be vague but I don't want to say for my own sake, but when people talked about Cotterill wanting to be in charge of everything, he's certainly not the only one at AG who has that attitude.

They're both true. And how else was he going to get his stuff?

Not saying they aren't. But by allowing him to come in and say his goodbyes and have some closure suggests the being sacked on the phone wasn't a malicious thing.

If it was malicious the call would have said your stuff has been boxed up you can pick it up from reception and be escorted off of the premises.

Apart from the phone call which could have been at Cotts request it appears to have been done in a sympathetic way.

The phone call wasn't at Cotterill's request, he had no idea it was coming. It was done because the board didn't have the balls to tell him to his face in the nearly 36 hours after the decision was made. His emotional goodbyes were only with his playing staff.

From ITV journalist on Twitter, SC sacked by phone last night.

Not even given the courtesy of a face to face meeting?

Don't accept any excuse for that.

Oh dear, I seriously hope that they had a violinist playing in the corner at the time.

You're Elizabethan, mate. 16th century. The Luddites are two hundred years after you. Fair play though, you got some imagination there

But I'm forward thinking.  200 years hence.  Foreseeing the inevitable reaction to machinery in its most basic form.

No one has explained what face time is.  I'll ask me daughter.

No KITR, Latham didn't make any comments about it or indicate Cotts reaction

Wasn't a great fan of some of SCs traits KITR but Still think it's not what an organisation that should show some  class does

If it was a manager that you liked in this position, then I don't think you'd just be dismissing this as nothing to get worked up about.

I don't believe f### all until it's proven to me. Until then I suggest you do the same!!

SOD didn't get the personal treatment either. He was on his way to take a training session when he got the call.
