NFL draft

Just over 2 weeks away now, then I can stop spending hours reading mock drafts....which I actually kind of enjoy

Tennessee apparently have an offer to give up #1, Browns now looking to move down from #2.....is there actually someone out there THAT good worth moving up half a dozen places for? Keep reading that you get outside the top 10 and there's not an awful lot to get excited about. Maybe it's me, but it just seems a little flat this year

Anyone got any thoughts on who goes where? Surely if Tennessee don't move they take Tunsil and look after Mariota?

Patriots release 2014 1st round pick, so no guarantee being picked in the 1st round by the cheetahs Patriots will lead to a glittering career.

DT released

That's an odd one? I get he's had injuries, but that must be unheard of for that (horrible) lot

LA is the most likely to move up for a QB, as they've probably solved their problems of gutting the defense and replacing the O-Line and milquetoast receivers.

But which one though? Seems a lot of love for Lynch out there right now

"The Titans have agreed to trade the No.1 pick of the draft to the Los Angeles Rams for the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft, two second-round picks (43 and 45), and a third-rounder (76) in 2016. The Titans will also receive the Rams’ first-round pick in 2017, along with their third-round pick in next year’s draft.

In addition to Tennessee’s No.1 pick this year, the Rams will also receive a fourth-round pick (113) and sixth-round pick (177) in 2016."

Massive news.

Confirmed, LA's taken #1 and given up four picks (1 from R1, 2 from R2, 1 from R3) and got an R4 and R6 in return.

Stupidity is predictable.

Sweet baby Jeebus - that is a bounty to hand over, was just reading about it

So, they in for Wentz or Goff? Will the Browns be happy to take whichever isn't picked? Or do the 49ers, maybe the Eagles get twitchy now and do a deal with Cleveland for #2?

Have to say, my first thought is for Laremy Tunsil, pretty much a universal choice of the draftniks to go #1, absolutely no chance of that now. He's going to (potentially) lose out on a lot of money here.....

Can someone shed any light on this? I cannot see why the Rams would trade up to no.1, to me there are no blue chip qb's in this years draft, last year maybe with Winston and Mariotta but not one of this years crop have stood out. Anyone?

It's an odd one, for sure. Interesting last night, one outlet has them head over heels for Wentz, others go completely opposite and go Goff - so there is no consensus out there. They must be going QB to go up that far, so it surely is one of those two

Would they have done it if they hadn't moved to LA....their QB cupboard is pretty bare, but a rookie starting there this year....that is a tough gig for a young lad

One of the websites was saying that Wentz has as much of an upside as Brady or Luck

One thing having it, another proving it!

Rams will take Goff I reckon, read somewhere that that is who Cleveland fancy - so do they go for 2nd best in Wentz, or invite Eagles or 49ers to make an offer....

Sorry one of my 'back in the day' posts but sort of draft related.

Taken from a recent post on the FB group 'Ghosts of the Orange Bowl' what an offensive line this was at college and how they turned out in the pros.

USC line

December 29, 1984: Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Roy Foster (#61) provides a formidable escort for running back Tony Nathan during a 31-10 playoff victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Foster was the Dolphins' first round pick in 1982 out of USC. He was part of an amazing group of Trojan offensive linemen that went on to NFL success, including future hall of famers Anthony Munoz, Bruce Matthews and fellow first rounders Keith Van Horne and Brad Budde.

During his 9 seasons with the Dolphins from 1982 to 1990, Foster started for 2 AFC championship teams and was a 2-time Pro Bowl selection. He was a major part of a Dolphin offensive line that kept Dan Marino's jersey clean and often the NFL's least sacked quarterback. Foster finished the remainder of his 12 year career with the San Francisco 49ers. He has the distinction of being the only offensive lineman to block for Dan Marino, Joe Montana and Steve Young.

Browns are apparently open to offers for the no.2 pick

Eagles?

But Eagles must have over $50m invested in Bradford and Daniel right now? Why mortgage the farm this year, doesn't make sense, although Pederson does appear to have a right hard on for Wentz. Red shirt him and give Bradford another year to prove himself, I guess

Surely 49ers would be a better shout, if Chip has fallen in love with both Goff & Wentz they must be in the market. Keep reading rumours that my Saints could be in play for a QB early, with only 6 picks I think I'd be happier moving down a little and picking up another pick than giving them away and going for a position we don't have a need in, just yet

It may make sense, if they've invested heavily in the QB dept then you'll need to protect that investment, Tunsil is supposed to be the best around they could be moving up to secure his services?

Now that does make sense to me. If they were to move up and take a QB then surely Bradford would be the one to go, Daniel being a career backup, but surely they'd take a cap hit for this season that would be difficult to swallow

Interesting reading

The Eagles are making this pick to draft a quarterback, executive vice president Howie Roseman confirmed in a news conference Wednesday. We'll have to wait to find out which quarterback it will be. The Los Angeles Ramsacquired the No. 1 overall pick in a blockbuster trade with the Tennessee Titans last week. California quarterback Jared Goff and North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz are now fully expected to be the first two selections of the draft. NFL Media columnist Michael Silver has indicated Goff likely will be selected first by theRams.

The Eagles would clearly not make this deal if they didn't fully believe in both quarterbacks. They might have a good read on what the Rams will do at No. 1, but you don't make a franchise-altering move like this unless you are fully on board witheither quarterback.

"It's hard to be great if you don't take some risks," Roseman said.

This marks yet another bold move by Roseman since he took the reigns of the organization back from former coach Chip Kelly. It certainly gives theEagles a loaded quarterback room. Sam Bradford-- a former No. 1 overall pick himself -- is set to make $18 million this year as the team's presumptive starter. Chase Daniel, who was the backup in Kansas City last season, is one of the highest-paid backups in the league.

Eagles move to get 2nd pick

Just reading about it. Still can't get my head around this move on the  Eagles part. RGIII - could turn out to be a superstar in Cleveland, but not guaranteed, so understand Browns taking that risk and stockpiling picks, but as said before, Philly have got some serious money invested in QBs already. What if LA take the QB the Eagles have fallen in love with, do they do a deal on the big night with SF instead? Read just now that maybe Saints move above SF to grab Lynch, it's all happening!!

I an't either, as i said in another post i just can't see what's so special about these 2 QB's. Agree with RGIII and i'd go out on a limb and say i'd take a shot with Manziel over Goff and Wentz i think he can get himself together and have a decent pro career.

Very strange move from the eagles.  Before all the hype that has happened over the last 2 weeks, the two qbs being talked up were only half decent at best.

As a Packers fan i'm happy to just sit back and watch all of these teams fight it out.  And relax in the knowledge that in Ted Thompson we will continue to draft players that perform in the nfl at a very high level without the need to throw away picks for overrated college greats.
