It's complicated.

With laws governing percentages on wages, contracts of players are often drawn out over a longer period, so that they fit in with each years budget.

For example...El Abds contracts was long, so we could afford to pay his wages over the long term, rather than short term.

I think I'll just have to take your word for it!

More business will be done at the back end of the summer due to the Euros.

And due to the high number of professional footballers who will be unable to sign a contract for the foreseeable unless it is hand delivered to a sun bed in Las Vegas, Dubai or "Marbs".

It's worth remembering that we're still in the same boat as the other smaller clubs in the division.

We might not be able to sign the 7 or 8 players that could turn us into top 6 contenders but we didn't ought to be any worse off than Rotherham, Barnsley, Burton and most of the bottom half of the league. The aim should still be reasonably comfortable survival and that aim is still achievable.

Ashton speaking up expectations only for LJ to take them down. Back on square one.

It's Friday... it's 3 o'clock... it's Crackerjack Tommytime!

PS. I agree entirely with your point and don't leave out the owner, who was on the pitch at the last home game talking up the Premiership yet again.

Havent watch the video, but clearly lj isnt going to admit we are after barnsley players who are due to play a playoff final in a few days. We would rightly go bonkers if another manager did that to us.  Its all a bit political, i wouldnt be at all surprised if at least 1 barnsley player signs for us this summer.

On the plus side, we have about 16 senior pros but at least most of them have the right dna.

Just to stay up we need to replace our loanees. They might be overaged, weight & paid but they need to be replaced with the same "standard" (donkeys are well paid in England) just to start the season on square one and that's only the start. We are supposed to progress - to open the upper West Stand. It's not going to happen with only four signings although they might not be overaged, weight or paid. This summer will decide our destiny for years to come. Time is running out.

Not at all surprised by this.

When I suggested a week ago that our net transfer spend this summer might well not exceed £5m several on here took the piss.

Lansdown has been banging on about sustainability, this is the consequence. He would be very wise to forget all the Prem talk, as this sort of rhetoric smacks of 16th place.

As for what we have, get used to Agard, Williams and Little being exactly what they were last season, players who will be on the bench with a job to do if needed.

El-Abd apart everyone on our books will be required in 16/17.

The penny has dropped with our fans that we have a tiny squad, yet some would be glad to see Freeman leave tomorrow. Baffling.

With regards to the 'it will take 3 Windows' comment, LJ may not rate 7-8 of the players currently in our squad but obviously (some fans may not understand this) we can't just sell them all now and bring 16-18 players in and expect everything to fall into place straight away. It's a slow process that will take a few Windows to get where we need to be. That's when we can start judging LJ as the squad will be his then. Fans expecting him to be able to do it all in 1 window is laughable.

The only saleable assets are Flint, Smith, Bryan & Kodjia. For the rest we have to pay up the contracts. Fact.

As things stand we are deep down the shit

No we aren't. Fans need to lower their expectations. There are easily 5 or 6 clubs that are in a far far worse situation than us. We have a solid base for the manager to start with. A couple of signings early doors and the optimism will come back. 4 or 5 in before the first game will leave us 1 or 2 short but we should be stronger than we have been since promotion. Maybe 1 or 2 added late in the window once clubs start working out who they don't need and we will be ready for a mid table finish.

What a daft thing to say.

Why would things "stand" as they are?  :dunno:

You read this forum and no doubt follow every piece of Bristol City news that comes your way and therefore you should be aware of the work going on with LJ, Mr Charisma and the new chief scout doing their jobs of recruiting and strengthening the squad.
