Very rounded up numbers

Or rounded down? Either way, it doesn't affect the numbers greatly as the base figure is so large.

The figures for our games are very reasonable though; you'd have thought that based upon that we would get more air time - you can see why the likes of Newcastle, Villa and Leeds are on so often.

Been trying to find out what the viewing figures were for the Championship live match on BBC in August 2009 between WBA and Newcastle.

Can only find the top thirty programmes for the week.

Coming in at number thirty in the table(six o clock news) with a audience of 3.36 million

No prem games and the game kicked off at 17:20pm on Saturday evening

Out of interest how are theses counted? Does it get a count if you literally just switch it on or do you have to watch it for certain amount of time! Also what about if you sky plus it then watch later in the day?

What marvellously interesting questions. One for the tv audience analytical professionals I feel. You may need to pay a visit to Broadcasting House to obtain those sort of secretative type answers.

Doesn't matter when you watch any programme, they're all measured by the signal stream. So if you're recording/pausing something you're still receiving the signal.

Most of us have watched one programme whilst watching another so essentially that's two streams.

Not quite as simple as that @Robbored

How are TV viewing figures calculated? How much of a programme do you have to watch before you are deemed to have "viewed" it?

THERE is a panel, administered by BARB, of around 4,000 UK households, each of which has a monitoring device - a "peoplemeter" - attached to the television set(s). The 13,000-odd individuals in these households are taken to represent the entire viewing population, although the importance (weight) of each panellist is varied so as to represent the general population as accurately as possible when grouped by socio-demographic criteria. You only have to watch a programme for one minute to be deemed a viewer, but if the programme is, say, 30 minutes long, then this single minute only counts for 1/30 of the programme. So the published "ratings" are actually an average for each of the minutes of the programme. I have heard of a country in South America where the people-meters are connected directly to the TV broadcasters, who can change their output in real-time to satisfy the panel.

Yes, non-live viewing from PVRs like Sky+ and other recording devices such as DVDRs are measured and included in the viewing figures as timeshift viewing. If a programme has been viewed on the same day as the original broadcast the viewing will be included in the overnight files as VOSDAL data. Otherwise, if it has been viewed in the 7 days after the original broadcast it will be included in the consolidated data.

Bear in mind Forest-Ipswich was on at the same time, plus SSN had a Soccer Special on.

Even the two games added together is rather low. I guess however they're the only televised games up against a full selection of championship games.

Simple answer is they don't

That's why they charge pubs and clubs so much. In many cases landlords can't afford it. My local club recently got rid of Sky but kept BT sport.

The steward advised the committee that Sky Sports didn't attract enough customers to justify keeping it.

What happens if you playback programmes from PVRs like Sky+? Is this included?

You're knowledge is quite astounding Phantom!
