Port Said Red
Livingstone has had to go home with an injury. Perhaps surprisingly they have decided to stick with Pope at wicketkeeper and are bringing back Mark Wood. Perhaps they feel the Pakistan side have a weakness against the short fast ball? I was explaining to my son the Russell/Stewart conundrum of the 90s and how this could end up being a similar situation with Foakes and Pope. He did keep very well but I would always go with a specialist keeper. Guessing they know that the bowlers will have to bowl a lot again and it’s the only way to play 6 bowlers

They were very anti Stewart until Jack spoke to them about the work he had put in to improve his keeping.

Stewart certainly improved and Russell kept poorly (a rare occurance) throughout a West Indies tour which, if my memory serves me correctly, put paid to his England career. Foakes is the closest we’ve had to Russell in terms of pure wicketkeeping skills I reckon.
PHILINFRANCE
One other thing to remember, perhaps forgotten in these more competitive times, is just how entertaining it was to watch Jack Russell bat, and, some time before him, Alan Knott. One talks about idiosyncrasies, but their batting (stance) was a thing of beauty.

Yep they feel Babar especially has a slight weakness again genuine pace, Wood exposed this in the ODI tournament recently. Whether the same works on these pitches we will see but I’m glad we have a point of difference and not many quicker in the world than Wood right now

Open End Numb Legs
With the team we have it might come down how well we bowl in those first 20 overs with the new ball. Leach will do ok if the ball turns off the line of the stumps, otherwise Root/Jacks could get more spin from the rough. Great debut, a shame that he didn't get all 10 as the England players will all study the finger positions for the googly and learn from it, he might not get another chance as good as that. Leach reverse sweep 1st ball? Not a good choice I think, I can support the new approach but at least take a look for a few balls first. Open End Numb Legs
Had to chuckle at the umpires just now, the put the light meter on the top of the stumps but then both leaned over it to get a reading, thus blocking out some of the light. A little wag of the tail messed up your prediction, but we will take that. I think any score that leaves them 250 to get is going to be a winning one here.
