paulcityfan Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 I hope that he gets a great reception and not plastic glasses of pretend wee. He was a great player for us and a firm favourite of mine. Unfortunately for Luke I think if we pelt down on the left as we have been doing lately we'll piss all over him anyway
Ska Junkie Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 No reason not to give him a decent welcome, as we did last season. Then tear him apart.

But yeah I'd hope he gets a decent reception.
BS15_RED Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 A massive part of the double winning team, he’ll get a good reception.

Phileas Fogg Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Hope this doesn’t come across as too rude.. but why do people make threads about what reaction they hope former players get?

David Brent Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 It’s not his first time back so I can’t see why it would be any special reception. Just the standard former player acknowledgment is fine.
WTFiGO!?! Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 To me it seems there's a definite 'if your face fits' culture, at AG at the moment. That's fine when it's working, but when it's not there'll be a repeat of "LJ Out !!" shouts but a whole host of other staff sackings instead, no doubt. Luke Ayling was a quality player for us and I was miffed by the decision to see him go to Leeds. Horse disliking or not.

wendyredredrobin Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 Thought he had a decent game against us last season and thought we had made a mistake letting him go. I hope he doesn't have such a good game on Saturday though. He will get no reception from me at all. Neither negative nor positive. Just a player for the oposition now. Wish him well though except for Saturday.

WolfOfWestStreet Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I don't forget players that did good things during their time here, there aren't many of them for a start.

I think in most cases it's because when players leave this is the first chance to acknowledge them and say goodbye, or in Ayling's case second. Some players will get good receptions even years after leaving, some standing ovations (as seen recently with Wilbraham) some polite applause, some meh and some will get boos and others the full dogs abuse. As I said Ayling has already been back with another team, so until the game starts it will be muted acknowledgement, I liked him and he seemed genuinely a nice bloke and popular with our players. But once the game starts he is a Leeds player and he will be expecting to be treated as such. That's football.

The forum is a small sample size and people will just do what they want anyway. I would think it's pretty obvious who's going to get a good reception - you can probably gauge it out of 10. Wilbraham got a 9/10 reception, Flint if he left and came back would get a 10/10 one, Freeman/Ayling would get a 6 or 7/10 etc I think it's nice actually when a former player or manager gets a particularly warm reception. I remember the one Gary Johnson got the first time he came back very well.
Roe Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 Clap him before the game, let Paterson/O'Dowda/Reid exploit him when he goes wondering into our half at inappropriate times, then give him another clap at the end of the game..

Exactly this @Roe - let's not forget he is now a Leeds player, and we should treat all their players with the utmost disrespect from the first to the last minute After that it is different
One Team In Keynsham Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I'll wait and see if @Thatch35 declares if we should boo or not. He seems to have his finger on the forum's pulse.
Port Said Red Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I see that LJ says that criticism of the sale of Luke Ayling is "fair". Makes me wonder whether he was in total agreement with the decision.

Guest Healeyred96 Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 he said it was bad move to sell him because of what happened with adam matthews

Exactly. Don't forget that last year we won with a Marlon Pack goal (!!!) coming from where Ayling should've been covering - although he'd gone off on a wander and when Leeds lost the ball, was behind their play in the centre circle. Acres of space for Tomlin & Pack to run into. Same again will be nice ta!
Fordy62 Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 I was a big Fan of Luke. Quality player. Heard yesterday that he's their club captain and behind the players side of the donating a days wages to the lad with cancer. Top pro is our Luke. Their Luke!

I know since he left us he has become a father so that's life changing itself, certainly calms most people down and priorities appear different. Obviously people who haven't got their own children can be caring too but maybe fatherhood has touched a nerve with him?

Obviously Matthews was a huge flop so LJ says the criticism for selling Ayling is justified because of that - which it is. I still think LJ couldn’t have kept him even if he wanted to. After Cheltenham I think his card was marked by people above LJ and they wanted him out.
bristolcitysweden Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Signed a four year deal today. For years in a total dump. Poor man Luke Ayling. Living in York are we?
