There is a distinct possibility that Eisa will get some mins tomorrow depending on the state of the game. I won’t be holding my breath tho.......

Very few, if any Championship managers will play inexperienced youngsters unless they absolutely have no other choice.

Bielsa is giving it a whirl at Leeds to good effect....with 18 year old Jack Clarke.

The second match of the reverse fixtures pitches us against the Millers.

Here’s the pre-match post from the first game:

One of the lowest scoring teams in the division and without a win in 8 (5 draws).  Surely a great way to end the year at home?  But look a bit deeper, up until their recent defeats to West Brom and Bolton, they’d lost only 1 in 10....although only 1 win also, suggesting draw specialists!   Home win not to be taken for granted then...especially with our home form.

How do they line-up?

Typically 4141/4411/451....not dissimilar to us.  However on Boxing Day they went 442, two big fellas up top.  Don’t know if this is an experiment / one-off, but let’s work on the assumption it is.

The Players?

Couple of changes from October:

  • Vyner won’t be playing - not sure who will deputise, as Billy Jones us either injured or out if favour.  If Vaulks go into RB that will be a bonus for us.  Very tidy in CM for them.
  • Anthony Forde on the right wing instead of Ryan Williams.
  • Jamie Proctor up top alongside Michael Smith.

How Will They Play?

Direct(ish), but more from midfield and full-backs, than hoofs from CBs.  Expect lots of angled balls from wide into Smith and Proctor.  Smith has decent touch, so will be happy chest-down.  Important that we pick up runners, and Pack might actually be able to play an important defensive screen in fromt if a front two, which is not often the case.

If so, then our two other CMs should not get outnumbered and / or outpassed / bypassed with give and go’s.

We need to make sure that both of our full-backs don’t get sucked in to defend, one should able to be free when we retrieve / retain the ball.  Rotherham having two up top, might stop Pack coming deep to get the ball, and might force him higher up the pitch.  I see this as key to springing Brownhill and Paterson beyond Vaulks and Towell and to put Ajayi and Robertson / Wood under pressure.

A win and 13 points from the last 7 and unbeaten will look so much better than a draw and 11 from 7 (but still unbeaten / 4 games winless).  A defeat would be very, very disappointing and halt progress (open to debate).

Please present this to our chaps in the morning Dave....word for word....you’ll put our ‘analysts’ to shame and the players will understand it and take it on board....

There are exceptional youngsters  of course - what age is Lloyd Kelly?     :dunno:

20.

Back to JC, is he an exceptional youngster?  No England age group caps like Lloyd.  At 18, no loan to men’s football first.  Just thrown in.  Sink or swim or thrive?

Who was the last 18 year old (he was 18 in November, so just 18) to play 9 games for City who belonged to City?

A 19 year old David Brooks got significant game time at Sheffield United too...and to add to @Davefevs post about Leeds, 17 year old Ryan Edmondson is getting games at Leeds too...and the two 18 year olds Bogle and Bird have played for Derby this season...and the 18 year old Aarons is playing well at full back for Norwich this season....along with 18 year old Danny Loader at Reading and 18 year old Reece James at Wigan...and not forgetting the three 18 year olds Harper, Lankester and Woodburn - all of whom have played for WBA, Ipswich and the Blades this season....then there’s the two 18 year olds at Leeds, Shackleton and Davis .....etc etc etc etc....loads more, how unlike Robbored to prove how ill-informed he really is....not!

Like I said - there are exceptions such as the ones you've mentioned.

How many Championship professional footballers are there in first team squad? - around 500/600 or so?  If someone could be bothered it would be interesting to know how many are inexperienced youngsters.

Nope.

Wes Burns is probsbly the closest, had featured 7 times by the end of 12/13 Chsmpionship season, but at this point of that season (Xmas) had not featured at all.

I can’t think of anyone else?

Anyone else come up with a name?

You did not say ‘there are exceptions’ you said ‘very few, if any, championship managers play inexperienced youngsters...’ I gave examples of eight championship managers who have played youngsters this season and stated there are actually more than that...yet more shite from the troll....

So exactly a third then..............:rofl2br:

No, as I said, I just quoted eight teams, and I said there lots more....so, to put you right, 19 teams in the championship have played players who are 19 years old or younger this season....so you can shove your pathetic emoji....it’s actually around 80% - a tad more than your ‘third’ - more shite from the troll who posted ‘very few, if any championship managers play inexperienced youngsters...’ - just the 80% of them then...’very few, if any...’

Every time he's proved wrong he responds with a laughing face emoji for some strange reason.

I’ve no idea what the answer is, but it’s longer than 7 years ago as it’s not Bryan or Burns!

The best I can up with is Scott Golbourne in 04/05 who made 9 appearances as a 17 year old.  That’s 14 years since we’ve produced an 18 year old who’s played that many games.

I think Rotherham are a bit better than Burton tbh @JoeAman08 - certainly at their place most sides will have a tough game.

More importantly though, us. I hope we field Eliasson and O'Dowda tomorrow- who to drop out of Paterson and Weimann?

I'm not sure but a game like this at home we need to have a good crack- Weimann's workrate is superb but Paterson seems to be finding a bit of form again.

To get Eliasson and O'Dowda in same side though, one of Paterson and Weimann would have to make way and both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I think Golbourne is one of the answers.  He also played 5 (14 in total) more times prior to his 18th birthday, so guess Mr Bristol City is the last one.  His last game for City was the 7-1 defeat v Swansea under Tinnion.

The other was Dave Cotterill....who played even more (20-odd before he was 18).

Funny how both left young for good money and eventually came back!!!

They were both in the same side under Tinnion.

Meant more in terms that this will be our annual boring 0-0 that we had the past two seasons against Burton. A lot of action in the middle third of the pitch but not a lot else.

The one last season on the Friday was all us. The one the year before was a bit more even and tbh we missed some huge chances- however I see what you're getting at.
