Better than last year? Points?

I always like to see if we are doing better than last year by looking at points vs same opponents. Replace 3 promoted with 3 relegated and same at the other end. So far we are equal (same points vs Leeds H, 2 less vs Birmingham A, same QPR H, 2 more vs Derby A)

Next two fixtures gave us 1 point last season (Hull A draw Boro H lost) so more than 1 point puts us on a plus... we were essentially 7 points off play offs and 20 from automatic... so good chance over 2 games to start hacking into the difference...

The team are doing better than I expected but with the injuries to key players, we will drop off. Really need a left back in and possibly a CB too.

Not sure we do with the current formation

And after being toshed by Boro at home, many were saying it would be a long, hard season. As it turned out, that wasn’t the case but there were still some gloomy moments. It’s a marathon etc.....  However it looks more promising atm but we could do without too many more injuries.

Lot of effort involved I know, but I’d love to see a continual game by game, like for like comparison through the season

I'm happy to keep this going...

We started ok... tailed off and I was convinced we would be mid table. We seem to go on a good run of wins though which projected us into play off contention but then we lost momentum. The injuries always affect teams... we have a bigger and stronger squad than ever before but seem to be hitting a fair few currently. Key injuries to nagy and dasilva particularly. Feels like we are still a quality side though.

Players must be buzzing after new signings were made with last couple results. Tough league this but we've shown we can compete already.

You’ll all be surprised to know I have a spreadsheet for this ?

I will however need to take the 6 new teams into account and replace them into last seasons teams, e.g. 1st in Champ 18th in Prem, 2nd, 19th etc.  Same with promoted clubs.

Not worried about the stats Dave, so long as we only have to play 38 league games next season.

Happy with our start though, but need to get Hull and Boro turned over before I will be really convinced.

Losing Jay D and Adam Nagy so early is a big blow that hopefully we can overcome.  At least it may allow Han Noah to shine.

Whilst Tommy Rowe is doing OK, I do worry that he will be vulnerable to a quick and tricky winger.

QPR had exactly that, and he was vulnerable. Not a great deal we can do about it currently with the injury to Dasilva. Hopefully he learnt from it, luckily we weren't punished.

Agree with that... the plus is that we seem to have quality to come in for the walking wounded. There was another thread with a list if those not included. Rowe is what i would describe as an honest player in that he is experienced, will always put in a shift and can pose a threat... not top quality but very reliable.

At this point we kicked on to win our next 3 - so if, in 3 games time we're still ahead of our points total at this stage last season it'll be very encouraging!

Hull & Stoke away, both winnable based on our opponents current form and Middlesbrough at home sandwiched between them who certainly haven't set the world alight under Woodgate.

I think we've every reason to be optimistic

I might have to change your name to something more relevant to your spreadsheet addiction......

I like it!

A win on Saturday edges us up to that golden 2 points per game, which is promotion form. Then we just need to maintain it!

Just as other promotion candidates will and we’ve already lost to one of them.

I appreciate its very early in the season but from what I’ve seen so far I have very positive and upbeat feel about this current squad - and that’s rare........in fact I can’t recall the last time I had this feel good factor with City so early in the season and I really like it!

Ditto, we seem to be ahead of schedule given the number of new players and injuries and I really like the look of Nagy, Massengo, Palmer, and Afobe.

Having said that, I'd be happy with a point at Hull as they are no pushover and in Grosicky and Bowen they have two of the better players in this division and they may match up against Hunt and Rowe but I'll leave that for another thread :)
