World Cup 2022 thread (football only)

It seems to me that many of the so called lesser nations have caused problems fir higher ranked teams because they play on the front foot and break quickly from defence with quick passing and hard running.

Its not direct football, such as we saw from the Dutch in the last 15minutes of normal time yesterday, when they were launching it into the box.

It makes teams adopting possession based playing styles look a bit pedestrian. It also ruffles experienced defenders, more used to teams playing the ball incessantly in front of defences.

Quite possibly, but shouldn't anyone ever criticise for that reason?

Just ignore him, he keeps using this same phrase in the hope that someone will call him out for using racial stereotyping so he can start a row that hijacks yet another thread,  but no one as far as I know has taken the bait.

I'll be absolutely honest and say I was very ignorant of Morocco's footballers before the tournament. I think if I'm honest I thought Boufal was French, Ziyech and El-Nesyri Algerian, and Hakimi French as well. That's my ignorance and my fault.

If you look through their team they have a healthy corps of players who ply their trade at top clubs in the top leagues. Far more than some of their continental brethren or other "lesser" sides like Wales, Saudi Arabia or Australia.

I wrote them off without really learning about them.

Not one to be vindictive but please someone get Ronaldo sent off and then wink at the camera as he trudges off!

That would complete his career for me.

Surely that has to be in the semi final Vs England.

Why on earth not?  That type of ‘street craft’ is blooding cheating. The worse thing is that they don’t see anything wrong with trying to con the referee, feigning and exaggerating injuries and rolling around. It’s downright ugly to witness.
