What tactics should we employ to beat Manchester City?

Indeed we are. Because we struggle to keep possession against Luton, Swansea, Millwall etc.

Which begs the question, are we capable of retaining the ball at all against one of the best teams in the world? As far as I can tell, we won't have anything to counter attack with unless several of our lot have the game of their lives, far beyond anything we've seen them produce so far.

Who knows, they may surprise us yet but I can see it being a bit like the one way traffic in the Lionesses game the other night.

It wasn't like that in the two previous games against them.

I expect a 4-5-1. Defending in numbers . But to me the key is when we get the ball we have to hit at pace in numbers . We have the pace. Play forward through Scotty who has to find those pin point balls to our forwards. We not got much of a chance . But we do have a chance. It's the FA cup shocks do happen.

Well they are making Bournemouth run around in circles (currently 0-2) and they look frightening in attack; so we need to run around...a lot and hope they play no first teamers. Then a 3rd penalty in a row in the last minute for us would do just fine.

We have NO HOPE sorry

Yeah hopefully they don't hit double figures. Don't you remember 74?

Leeds unbeaten against little old Bristol City.

Naturally we have to sit in and absorb pressure to frustrate Man City and put them out of their flow. It's a risky business but we don't have much choice.

If you're going to be mostly defending, you absolutely must have a threat going forward too. My crazy plan is this...

Bell to spearhead the attack. He has one lethal weapon that the Man City defence will struggle with; PACE.

Don't play Bell wide where Walker will keep up with him. Play him central, and hope he can latch onto a clearance (or even a pass, if we can muster a few of those!)

The pace of Bell and the sheer class of Scott, give us a chance to get out and give Man City problems.

I might be off my nut, but I would also be tempted to play JD left full back and Pring left forward. Print is comfortable going forward but also we would have a defensive balance that side.

This is what happened towards the end of the game today, so NP does know about using them like that.

Yes we have no hope in a one off cup game in a competition that is famous for cup shocks.

No we don't need to run around. That's the trap teams fall in to. Running around chasing shadows just wastes energy.

True and that's the spirit in which we all should approach Tuesday. Except... we're nowhere near as good as we were in Jan 2018  so you're not comparing like with like.

Fingers crossed,  though!

Other than taking out Haaland within the first couple of minutes I have no idea, in fact it's a pretty scary prospect now it comes down to it!

I would play Bell, he'll be an unknown to Man City, has real pace and that can always be a problem for any defender. Target John Stones, he's always got a mistake in him. Alex Scott might get a bit more freedom than he's used to against typical Championship midfield thugs.....

I wouldn't recommend it - he's unlikely to be playing

Max to have the game of his career, Tomas to remind  us of how good an experienced international defender he still is, and everyone else chasing, harrying and giving their all for the cause... Then we can stay in the game, all game

Oh and Zak to just do what he does, IE play like a bloke reborn, player of the season.

Ps hope the ref isn't all pally with the Prem boys, let's face it, they usually are in these matches.

Haven't scrolled the thread, but I don't think we should employ any tactics to beat Man City because it is very, very ****ing unlikely.

We should just go for it, enjoy it and try to play our own game. That will increase our chances of victory from 1% to about 8%.

(figures in no way scientific)

Me and Mrs R&W will be watching the game at Ibenza Square Benalmádena if anyone fancies joining us…….. ?

It's going to be down to as low as 2 degrees there Tuesday night (Weds morn) so wrap up, shame the Euro bar has gone you will have to make do with paying  an outrageous 2 Euros a pint,.

I think the biggest tactic that we need to employ is to believe that we CAN win.

Reading this thread has been a little depressing. Whilst I expect us to lose, I do believe we can win and im going to Ashton Gate on Tuesday night with the belief that we can pull off a shock.

I think we are gonna give them a really good game.

You rang !!!

I hear a certain Donald Trump is good at building walls

Well you see he's not is he?  He talked a lot about a wall but in reality built virtually nothing.

On account of being full of shit.

It is amazing how people believe some things with the only evidence being what a proven liar says.

I did say "I hear" not "he is" :nono:, what I will say is that he's been very good at building barriers between society.
