Hello Dave
I’m looking for photos and pictures of iconic City games, to frame and put in my bar. Preferably when we won a big game or trophy( yeah I know!) One in particular I’m looking for, is the promotion game at Chester in 84. I remember seeing a photo in the Evening Post at the time, of the pitch invasion at the final whistle. I’ve scrolled the internet, but can’t find any of that game. Any help would be appreciated. Also what other iconic game do you suggest? Preferably with crowd scenes involved as well.
1960maaan
I've never been able to find videos or photos of Chester, and I've tried . I have a couple of photos on the Laptop but I doubt they would be any good to blow up. The Garland header on the line would be great, but quality is poor. The other two are available on Alamy , not cheap, though could be good enough quality to print at a decent size. 6 1

I’ve printed and framed the Cheesley one, not bad quality really. of I could get a decent copy of the Garland one, that would go up, likewise the Donawa goal. Weird that there’s nothing from that Chester game. Also trying to find one of Mardons goal at Forest, with no luck. I spoke to Chris Honor, thinking he might have something, but unfortunately he had all his memorabilia ruined by a flood in his loft! BS3City
I've also never seen pictures of the Chester away day. Memories of a circa 4,000 crowd with probably 3,000 from Bristol. I was on the terrace behind the goal, and will never forget Trevor Morgan's goal or the final whistle celebrations. "City are back, City are back!"..... 2 1

Thought I'd be able to help you as I kept the EP Promotion Special from the day after the Chester game. and remembered there was a pitch invasion picture. Having had a look it turns out both the Swindon home game and Chester away 2 days later are covered on the first page, with the Chester report seemingly added on to an otherwise pre prepared pull out, and the only pitch invasion picture is after the Swindon game at AG, with Alan Crawford being mobbed. A great match report by Richard Latham btw, really captures what a special the day and atmosphere it was. Reading the match report one thing I hadn't realised was a young Lee Dixon was full back for Chester that day. I know I’ve seen the Chester pitch invasion somewhere , or did I ? I’m ******* 60 now, so could be chatting bollocks!

1960maaan
@Hello Dave might be worth asking if anyone has the first programme from the following season. 25 Aug 1984 we played Wigan Athletic at the Gate, might be some photos in that. One last shot and something I've been meaning to do, is go down the Central Library and check their records. Apparently they have all the old Evening Posts , not sure about WDP or Green Un , but might be worth a look.

Offside
I’d love to see footage of that Chester game. I vaguely remember seeing it on the local news at the time, but haven’t been able to find it on the internet.
Nogbad the Bad
Yep, I'm sure the highlights, pitch invasion and even TC conducting the fans from the stand were all on local TV the next day.

ralphindevon
I was at Chester and it still remains my favourite away days, trouble is my smartphone battery went dead so no photos. Seriously, it was a great day but a bank holiday and as most photographers had worked Saturday they didn’t seem keen on working Monday too. There was some good photos in the WDP the next day, including Terry Cooper being lifted on a players shoulders and nearly falling off, which would have been catastrophic as they were stood up in the stand with a big drop. I’d love to see them again.
ralphindevon
I did have a lovely photo of Mark Gavin scoring a penalty v Walsall the day we won promotion in 1990. I was stood behind the goal in the open end. A very hot May day, promotion and a 4-0 victory but most of us were still in shock from what had happened a few days before. I remember seeing Prince strolling around the Tropicana one sunny day way back then, and thought to myself.... That's a pretty mean looking dude! I stand to be corrected. RedRock
Have a video of the Forest away game on video recorded from the Central TV coverage after I got home from the match. Problem is I’d have to search through 1,000s of porn videos to find the right one. Give me a few weeks and send an envelope, preferably, with your address written in braille.
