City Rocker
Terribly sad news. One of my earliest Bristol City memories is seeing Chris Garland score the winner against Manchester City, a moment that rocked my world and changed everything. Absolute legend. Shuffle
RIP Chris & you will never be forgotten. The headed goal from a yard against the Gas & the goals that helped keep us up at the end of our first season up were priceless for different reasons. I could go on & on about what he gave to the club and we will forever be grateful.

Rudolf Hucker
Chris was more than 6 years older than me so when he made his debut in the City team, I was a mere 11 years old. He immediately became my footballing hero. There was little in the way of football memorabilia in those days but I did get, from somewhere, a black & white 6x4” photo of him (colour hadn’t been invented back then) wearing his City kit, which graced my bedroom wall. My football rattle (look it up kids) had ‘Garland’ on one side and ‘Galley’ on the other and I loved watching them play upfront together. When he eventually left us for Chelsea in 1971 for £100,000 I was gutted, but not as gutted as I am tonight having learned of his death. Chris was my hero and is still my hero. Thanks for all of the great memories, Chris. Rest peacefully. To his family and friends, my sincere condolences. 14

Redland
If my memory says me correctly, he was our first £100,000 footballer when he was sold to Chelsea. I have many great memories of standing in the East End watching Chris Garland and John Galley.

ray savino
Strange with all the talk of Alex Scott going to the Prem. Chris Garland was the young starlet that everyone chatted about going to play at the top level when I started watching City. Upset when he went to Chelsea, but no one blamed him because we all wanted the local boy to do well. Believe the fee (£110,000?) helped pay for the Dolman Stand! Really was the local hero especially the night his goals beat Liverpool at an overpacked Gate and helped keep up us up in our first season back in the top flight. 5
