In any job do you spill nonsense what you are told to customers,I’m sure many do but if you have principles you don’t

If you’re in a job where you’re being asked to knowingly ‘spill nonsense’ to people: agree. But I don’t think that’s the job we’re talking about!

If you’re supposed to tell people facts but you’re just not very good at it, should you consider quitting: possibly.

But if someone else gives you wrong information I’d suggest the fault lies elsewhere.

It didn’t seem a bit low though, did it? And at the time when he’s dealing with multiple subs and with the time added on. Give the guy a break. But then I realise that’s not your forte, once you’ve set for/against someone!

Surely he knows there will always be a minimum attendance due to season tickets sold and advanced sales and away tickets? If I as a fan felt surprised by a 19k figure then surely he should have been too?

The guy messes up almost every week. Its long gone past the point of hoping that he can do the job he is paid to do. If you're happy for him to constantly make mistakes then fair play. I never hear any other announcers making mistakes despite facing the same challanges.

I hate that too! I’m dreading the day when we start getting ‘the substitution, sponsored by xxxxx’ announcements that you get at some other grounds already.

Been there done that. Did Royal Navy Reserve used to sponsor the subs when @Dave L used to read them?

Then I bow to your superior ability to accurately assess the crowd today. I wasn’t aware of anyone at the time, nor anyone else since, who shares your surprise.

I’ve already said repeatedly that I am no fan of his - so quite how you interpret that as me being happy with him is beyond me.

The ‘Come On you reds!’ which rang around the ground when we were seeing out the injury time was the loudest in ages

That’s because a natural spontaneous ‘come on you reds’ is always much better and easier to spread to all the ground than a monotonous engineered ‘oooh, la la la la Bristol city’.
The one today seemed to emanate from A block dolman.

Thats not to slag off that song or those that sing it, but each song has a time and place.

For example, corners should always be greeted with a booming come on you reds, but sadly these days the song which is currently being sung continues to be sang at corners, even if it’s something like the Cornick song.

My advice - you can always switch back to the Cornick song (or whatever one is being sung), but when we get a corner the S82 should always cease their current song and get the whole ground into a booming come on you reds.

I would always check the information before I’m given it to let’s say 8 people and make sure it’s right,if someone else is giving me false information then he deserves to be sacked as well as I do for believing it

Blimey…with all these sackings there can’t be many people left in jobs in your world. A bit of an over-reaction for a simple mistake?

There’s plenty of things to criticise/sack Downey for……I just don’t think this is one.

So are you suggesting he isn’t in contact with the people feeding him the information, cmon mate

Of course he’s in contact with them. How else could he get the information?

I’m just saying that he’s given an attendance figure, there’s no reason to doubt it, it’s not an obvious error, so he read it out. I just don’t get why that’s a sacking offence.

Bizarrely JL got rid of Pearson because of him not performing well in his role.

However Downsy has never performed well here in his role yet continues to be employed by us. Very strange.

I’ve said for a while now, for an organisation that is so trigger happy for anyone who is the slightest bit average in their role, they don’t half back someone who, after about 7 years in the job, still can’t even read the pages on a ******* clipboard properly.

Agreed. And in such a public role too.

I sit in the Dolman so I can’t really see how he walks 😁😏

Seriously, I don’t disagree: I just find it odd that we’re picking on this particular ‘offence’. To use your analogy, it’s a bit like someone picking up endless speeding and dangerous driving offences, and then getting banned for driving 10 metres in a bus lane whilst getting out of the way of an ambulance.

Manning got a win against a good Boro today, what shall we moan about?

How about the attendance and Downsy? We haven’t moaned about them for at least 3 weeks!

I'm choosing to moan about the performance.

2 up, and I have seen more entertaining 0-0s.

This isn't a 'pro Nige, anti Manning' rant, but it was dreadful. Every pass had an element of 'when does Max get a touch?' about it.

I fear however, I am in a minority.

As a ambulance driver you wouldn’t get a ban but let us leave it there

As a car driver getting out of the way you would. Which is what I said!

But yes, let’s leave it….more important things on the pitch!

And, to be honest, I sit in the Dolman so I benefit from being unable to hear much of what he says anyway!!

Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!

They did, but I said I wasn't prepared to make those announcements.  No disrespect to the RN, but that level of commercialistion has no place in the delivery of basic in- game information IMO. So I handed over the substitution announcements to Tim S.
