Southend Blue
Great result and something you can take pride in. Did us a big favour with it. Southampton are easily one of the very best in the entire division and you put in a whole shift and deservedly won. Go for the play-offs now. Play like that each week until end of season and you'll provide yourself with every opportunity in achieving it. Going down to Millwall this evening to see ourselves and hopefully take advantage of the Saints defeat but even if we win we still can't yet overtake them. Given up on first position, Leicester just can't be caught, going to have to rely on the inconsistency of others to make the promotion dream a reality. Well done once again. 5

I'm not sure how/why you see the post title as clickbait. I saw it, thought it was the original thread, then immediately realised the title was a piss take (against himself more than anything). Anyway, I'm sure you agree with the content - it was a near perfect peformance whereby Martin had no answers to manning unravelling his game plan. It was noticeable to me that in the late stages of the game, their players resorted to petty fouling and a couple of rugby tackles with a couple booked in added time. They didn't like it up 'em.
Robinsfan
6 hours ago, Steve Watts said: Watching all lonely from a Wigan hotel room I was delighted with what I saw tonight. There is an air of caution to be mindful of though, and that is that we played the same way in the first half on Saturday and the same way as we did against Watford. That, last night, was absolutely not Manning-ball and showed that our strengths lie in other tactics. My worry is that against a struggling side like QPR we revert back to MB and try and bore the opposition into submission. I just hope he finally realises that taking the game to the opposition and quick counter attacks is when we look at our best. Keep up with that style towards the end of the season and a little glimmer of hope starts to spark. In terms of players, is anyone else getting bored of saying "Joe Williams was outstanding today"? The man is possessed and needs to be signed up immediately. There is a reason why teams that specialise in transition football struggle against teams that are lesser than them the biggest example is the Man utd of recent years (mainly Ole's UTD) who similarly to us tended to struggle in games where their opponents are happy to give up the ball and sit in a low/medium block. It's part of the reason they hired a manager like Ten Hag and likely part of the reason we hired a manager like Manning. You have to be able to be patient, comfortable with the ball, pen teams in, and build a degree of control to break down teams who sit in a block especially when it's a well-coached block a manager like Cifuentes will employ. We will press high and we will obviously look to attack quickly in transition but the likelihood is we'll struggle to find as many moments in transition as we did yesterday and that's where as you say "Manning ball" will have to flourish.
SaintWill70
Well done last night, mixed feelings for us although I didn't go personally (I'm a Saints season ticket holder and regular away supporter). Recently we've leaked goals at the start but made them up in the last quarter by wearing the opposition down, and usually lay into our back four over losses but you lot outplayed us last night, simple as that. Saying that from what limited info I could see from the highlights we did look a bit sluggish but we've turned in performances like that before and hammered the opposition. Every team has it's off days / nights but I don't think it was really the case, beat fair and square. They say the table never lies but our 3rd place isn't that convincing to many of us (unlike those annoying ***** Leicester ) and this Friday v West Brom is huge for us as it's out game in hand over Leeds. It's Leicester we want as we loathe those fckers for the past four years piss taking for shipping 9 against them (I watched 8 of those go in and even I didn't have the stomach for 9 . Best of luck for the rest of the season. Edited February 14 by SaintWill70

Certainly agree 100% with the post, it was just the title that's all designed to attract clicks hence my description of clickbait, a lot do it on YouTube The Macmaster and Scotty Kilmer are two of the worst offenders, perhaps it's just Dave's way of posting titles, no harm done. I don’t create that many threads (believe it or not). FWIW, I’m 53 years of age, and couldn’t give a about creating threads to get clicks / views. Thats 100% not the reason I post nor create threads. It’s hardly like I’m being financially rewarded for each view is it? So not really comparable to two YouTubers I’ve never heard of, nor likely to unless they do videos of football or do excel / tableau tips As per my reply to another poster earlier, I don’t do it for “like” emojis either, I do this because I like “talking” football.

There is a bit of me though that is excited by seeing how we CAN play, the potential, so last night still means something to me. Apart from the Leeds game, the boss now has something to point at in training, a short collection of good performances, the hint of a blueprint, not just results. I get that. Two great results against two good teams this week. I just really, really don’t want us to p155 all that away v QPR.

It's like leading on a grand Prix for 99% of the time and being overtaken with half a lap to go. Southampton were a typical lower Premier league side, full of good technical players, keeping possession without making any real inroads into the opponents defence. We've seen this so many times this season that it's completely boring to watch. Have City reverted to the game plan that was being built by NP and which LM has possibly realised is the way to win games? Stop going sideways and backwards all the time to keep possession and hitting to other side with real pace - not only on both touchlines but also through the middle. Attacking the opponents straight through what has been forbidden territory for too long. I walked out of Ashton Gate last evening buzzing with excitement just like I did when I was a six year old after my first City match. I wanted to go in Ashton Park and kick a tennis ball like I did then! This old man hasn't grown up. COYREDS!!!! Or not being in the L2 relegation zone until 5mins (?) from the end of the season!

Indeed we have a number of very good semi-regular posters from other clubs, even a couple of Gasheads. Compare and contrast with the Gaschat forum where any of their fans who doesn't toe the party line is likely to be banned. Great performance last night btw, looks like it's going to be nip and tuck for the second spot to the end.
