I know some don’t like this being repeated but it needs to be said. The fact they were dishonest about why Pearson was leaving has piled huge pressure on the new manager and the squad. JL needs to face reality and take personal accountability for the mess the club is in. He is solely and personally responsible and in my view the club will struggle as long as he stays as Chairman of the board. Time for him to do the honourable thing and step down.

Change a few words and it fits Manning too. 

We're still a top-ten budget in the division, and we've got the facility, and we've got the stability; we do give our managers opportunities, and we've got the ability to outperform that budget. We increased out budget in the window to bring in some players for Liam. 

We're in the crunch phase of where we need to start looking towards next season. Yeah, we can talk about other things, injuries, not enough time on the grass, not his own players and things, separately but the reality is we've looked at it and we're not doing as well as we hoped to do having previously made a change to in order to give us the best chance of success this season. 

So you've got a manager who has not delivered what we expected, you're not performing to where you want to be - and I think he would want to be doing better as well - and that's what the decision is based on.

Thought it would be useful, for future reference, to make a note of what has been revealed or confirmed by the key decision makers at BCFC, since Nigel Pearson was sacked.

 

1. City fans are passionate and will continue to support the team (JL)
2. We currently have a squad deemed capable of winning promotion/ being at the top end of the league (JL/BT) 100% the aim this season is promotion (GM) “This squad should be at the top end”, “the aim is promotion and we wouldn’t have made the change if we didn’t think we could achieve that”, “there would be no point in making the change now if we were happy to just bumble along for the rest of this season”. 
3. We (the Board) know (apparently for the first time) what they want from our new Head Coach which will include playing in a particular way (see next point)  (JL/BT)
4. We (the Board) know our style of football, throughout all teams, we will play progressively, on the front foot, pressing, attacking,  showing aggression and pace (JL/ BT)
5. The Board have entrusted Brian Tinnion as technical director to lead/advise on footballing matters (implied)
6. The Board opted to sack an experienced manager, citing recent results as the reason (at the time we occupied 15th place with 18 points 5 wins, 6 defeats and 3 draws) our form in the six games pre the sacking was lost 4, won 2.  We were only 5 points off a play- off spot when NP was sacked and only 3 points before the Cardiff game, which we faced with an injury ravaged squad, which SL refused to bolster after the Scott sale (JL)
7. In NPs final game, as noted above, the squad was ravaged by injuries, the actual squad was:

11. Everyone was very happy with our summer recruitment (BT)
12. Recruitment will be easier now as we have a style of play and we will seek players who fit that (BT)
13. The new HC will be expected to blood academy players (BT)
14. We are in a really good place as a Club and it is set up nicely for somebody to take forward (BT)
15. Unusually the Supporters Club and Trust issued a statement, which included asking the club executives and owners for more transparency and improved supporter engagement going forwards, starting with greater clarity and context around the reason for Nigel Pearson’s sacking.
16. They (the hierarchy) refused an invitation to speak on Sound of the City and instead prepared two short, carefully scripted, in-house videos (as per below) and were still unable to provide a clear narrative as to why the decision was made.
17. Communication -  ‘It is up to us to explain better what we are doing’ ‘Up to us to explain what we are doing and communicate better so they (the fans) understand our decisions better and can feel connected’ ‘I freely admit our communication hasn’t been as good as it should have been and that’s not just now’ (JL) GM also acknowledged there has been reflection on communication (or perhaps more accurately the lack of it) and that this needs to improve
18. CEO - ‘With our set up there isn’t really a need for a typical CE’ (JL)
19. Reference sacking NP - ‘We aren’t doing as well as we wanted to and that’s what the decision was based upon’ (JL) We had a three year plan with NP and the objective for this year was to be challenging at the top end of the table (GM)
20. Money for transfers - both JL and GM explained that some of the money realised through the transfer of Alex Scott would be available for transfers in 2024

Nearly twice as far off play offs now Jon, another re shuffle time? NP, GJ, SC, all 3? one got the squad sorted, another got the ground bouncing and another a promo/cup winning double; nah what do they know about football they`re binned.

Lets stick with front foot Manning and trust me on Tinman (who we trusted once and it got us?) good plan....not.

I tend to agree although fan pressure will eventually have to have an effect. Steve is clearly a bright bloke and overall I have been supportive of his time at City. He will not want his legacy tarnished now and I am afraid that looks increasingly likely. 
If I were to be advising him I would say, use Jon’s ‘other interests’ as a reason to restructure. Leave him on the board but bring in a new chairman who can try to reunite the club with some more sensible rhetoric and create a management structure to deliver premier league football. Any decent chairman will respect the position of the owners, so they do not need to fear an independent. But someone needs to be able to tell hard truths to the manager, the senior staff, the board and the squad. Unfortunately I do not see Jon having the right skill set to do that.

So you've got a head-coach who has not delivered what we expected, you're not performing to where you want to be - and I think he would want to be doing better as well - and that's what the decision is based on.
